Haitian Creole Text:
Leve, leve, leve li jou… jodia se kanaval!
An’n rasanble, an’n selebre…
Souke tchatcha, danse Rara…
Leve, leve, leve li jou… jodia se kanaval!
Timoun yo degize, granmoun yo eksite,
Madigra, chaloska ap defile,
Ala yon bèl epòk,
Moun anwo, moun anba fè yon sèl…
Se kanaval! Kanaval la rive!
Avanse… pa frape! Pa pouse!
Sote, ponpe jan ou vle,
Kale dada’w, danse jan’w vle… Se kanaval!
Mezanmi pa gen manti nan sa, se fete n’ap fete,
Mereng yo byen chofe, gade kijan’n kontan!
Mezanmi pa gen manti nan sa, se fete n’ap fete,
Tout moun ap banboche, gade kijan’n kontan!
Timoun yo degize, granmoun yo eksite,
Madigra, chaloska ap defile… Se kanaval!
Mete de men anlè! (ou-we!)
Mete drapo anlè!
Mete mouchwa anlè!
Kanaval la rive!
Chak ane s’on randevou,
Twa jou lanmou, twa jou lajwa.
Chak ane s’on bèl plezi,
Se yon bèl fèt nan Peyi d’Ayiti.
Men nan men san prejije,
Se konsa pou nou fete.
Men nan men san prejije,
Se konsa n’a va rive. (zimboyo!)
Yon ti bese, tout moun f’on ti bese!
Yon ti monte, tout moun f’on ti monte!
Kanaval Ayiti… se la pou’w la!
Ka-ka-ka-ka-Kanaval Ayiti… pa di betiz!
Kanaval… ou paka pa la! Se la pou’w la!

English translation:
Wake up, wake up, the day has come… today is Carnaval!
Let us gather and celebrate…
Shake that shaker, dance that Rara…
Wake up, wake up, the day has come… today is Carnaval!
The young ones are disguised, the grown ups are excited,
Madigra* and Chaloska* are parading,
What a beautiful season,
People on top and people below are united…
It’s Carnaval! Carnaval time is here!
Move forward… no hiting! No pushing!
Jump up and down as you want,
Lossen up, dance however you want… it’s Carnaval!
Yo, this is for real, this party is on,
The songs are hot, look how happy we are!
Yo, this is for real, this party is on,
Everyone is ecstatic, look how happy we are!
The young ones are disguised, the grownups are excited,
Madigra and Chaloska are parading… it’s Carnaval!
Put your hands in the air! (hooray!)
Flags up in the air!
Hanckershiefs in the air!
Carnaval time is here!
Every year it’s a rendez-vous,
Three days of love, three days of joy.
Every year it’s a blast,
It’s a beautiful party in the country of Haiti.
Hand in hand without prejudice,
That is how we should celebrate.
Hand in hand without discrimination,
That is how we will make it. (zimboyo!)
Get down, get down… everybody get down!
Get up, get up… everybody get up!
Carnaval of Haiti… Kinda have to be there!
Ca-ca-ca-ca-Carnaval of Haiti… No bad words please!
Kanaval… You can’t miss it! You gotta be there! - Hudba
i got to sing this with you as a conductor just yesterday with my choir and three other choirs and the experience was surreal. thank you for such a great time!
You’re very welcome! :) I had a wonderful time with you all!
My chamber choir is learning this song! It's my favorite piece out of all the pieces that we're doing this trimester. Love the energy!
Probably my 100th time listening and am still amazed every time I listen.
We are singing this song for our school concert. I'm planning on singing that amazing solo, this song is a challenge don't get me wrong, but I bet we'll knock it out of the ball park.
You got this!! :)
Wow- I absolutely love it!! My high school choir is doing TCHAKA this year and all my kids are in love with that one. This will definitely need to be on my to-do list in the future! Also, I am particularly happy about this music because I have several kids in my choir who are of Haitian descent and it makes them proud to have such wonderful, exciting music they feel represents them! 🙂
That's heartwarming. Thanks so much for sharing that with me!
Your students will love it!
Our school got to sing this during the festival and it was incredible, You're an amazing conductor, writer and teacher and it was probably one of my favorite concerts. It's still stuck in my head!
Aw!! I'm glad to hear that. Thanks so much!
Man I wish my high school did this. Instead we are singing still just as good of a song, Tchaka.
Maybe "Kanaval" in the Spring??! :) What's the name of your school?
@@sydneyguillaume I go to San Juan Hills High School. I'm pretty sure my teacher said you were coming to help us with Tchaka and I'm excited to meet you!
Ah yes!! That's going to happen and I'm very much looking forward to it! :)
My school did both >:3
Wow. All four parts are clear and understandable. I'll need to save this for when my school choir sings at George Fox.
Jason Ringo awesome! :)
My schools mixed varsity did this song last year and i wasn't apart of that choir at the time... so i learned it on my own and performed it with this years mixed varsity. amazing song and i'm planning on learning tchaka and kalinda on my own soon too!

Aw! Thank you, Dabbin! I had a great time working with you all last weekend, especially on this piece! :)
Hello, mister Guillaume. I still love this song even after I quit choir! I know it's been 2 years since I commented on the video, but I'm glad that you featured us on yoyr facebook page! (I'm from the Woodrose Chorale)
I'm glad I was able to perform this at your first All States festival, first of many, I'm sure!
This song makes me cry for some reason
perfectly infused happiness in a song
My school just did this for a performance a few days back. It was amazing!!!! We cut it at the cheering part though but it was still nice!!!❤❤❤

Dear Sydney,
Today I let youtube select my playlist while working on answering mails. To my surprise I found a work of yours and I was surprised by the joy that awakened in me. A great job, a beautiful recording, congratulations!

The more I listen to this piece I cant get enough. Just performed Tchaka with the ILMEA 2019 Honors Choir, and I hope to perform this piece one day as well!
