Converting to Disc Brakes: Adjustable Disc Brake Mount Holder

- The adjustable disc brake mounts convert your bike to accept disc brakes when your frame doesn’t have mountings for disc brake calipers.
How does the adjustable disc brake mount work? The mount holder attaches to the frame so you can install a disc brake adapter/mount and caliper on your rim brake frame.
Each bike is different and you must adjust it to the right angle and deviation that correspond to your chassis.
To mount the adapter/bracket between the wheel and frame, I removed a spacer from the axle to fit it in.
Now attach the adapter to the frame.
Some modification is required to make it fit. The bolts are too long so I have to cut them to fit.
After taking some time of fitting, the rear thread is stripped, so I need to put a flex nut behind it to tighten with the bolt.
Install disc brake mount/adapter and caliper.

I did this once as an experiment on an OLD mountain bike. Rather than use the part that gets squeezed on the axle stack, I drilled a hole in the mounting bracket where the existing threaded hole is on the frame (for bike rack or whatever) and cut the rest of the bracket off. The lower part then just bolts right on and is secure. As far as bolts being too long, I just mounted them inside out instead of having to cut them. It is hard, however, finding exactly the right sized adapter bracket to get the caliper set up with maximum disc contact area. These installations are not recommended by professionals, but heck, they work alright and for a minimal cost.
Thanks so much for making this video Danyo! I’m about to do the same thing to an older Marin hardtail. I’ve been working on bikes for a long time but this is my first time doing a conversion. This helps probably a lot of people out there.
Trippy, I'm here because I'm doing my first rear disc conversion on a 1999 MARIN 😮🤠💯🤟🇬🇧🙏
This is the best video on installing disc brakes I have seen so far and, I have watched a lot of them.
Great video..step by step..easy to understand..easy to install. I had no idea how
to set my disc brake up. Thank you my friend for taking the time to make this
video :)
Interesting! And pretty cursed lol. I tried adding a dynamo adapter bracket to a bike several years ago, but the vibrations absolutely obliterated it within a year of commuting. That makes me a bit nervous here too, this adapter doesn't look much thicker... But it looks like it wouldn't fail in a very dangerous way once it does. Safe travels and thanks for sharing the experiment!
Also, if anyone is trying this, I'd recommend a locknut/lock washer/generous application of threadlock, because you don't know what kind of vibrations are going to appear in your particular bike. If you want a more snug fit, you can add some rubber (eg. old inner tube) underneath, but keep it thin.
Really tempted to try this for shits and giggles tbh...
I can tell you, I tried this and it’s absolutely not good at all.
The big problem is it’s too thin, so the brake will rattle and eventually the pads will touch the disc at every bump, so big loose of power while off-roading. Also it can bend laterally pretty easily and mess up with your settings, making the disc touch the brake on one side or the other.
Thanks for this, will try them on our bike projects currently being restored, posting updates soon.
Great video.hope my project goes to plan with my 750w Bafang mid motor conversion.
Omg this is Gold, thumbs up!
Excellent video
I have a track hub that the cog bolts on in a 4 bolt design, if I can find a rotor that fits I could easily convert my steamroller to disk
Thanks for the video. How did you know what adapter would fit?
It looks like there is a bit of play in the mounting. You can see the caliber move/flex during the last part of the barkiing 6:00 (use slow 0,25 speed)
Thanks brother I appreciate it
i would but some rubber strip on on the frame before putting the adapter on it. To stop it from biting in the frame and runing the paint work. To stop scratches on paint work i used helicopter take on my bike. I have it on for 4 years and my bike had no paint chips, except underneath the bottom hub etc but even that is minimal.
Very useful. thank you
your video shows a washer between the nut and the rest of the hub. But my bike does not have this washer. Just a washer attached to a rubber seal. Thinking of using a thinner nut?
this product didn't fit my stretch cruiser, but it works just fine on my old bmx. thanks for the walk through, if have any recommendations for something to suit the cruiser I am all ears.

Good job friend
I've to say that my adjustment was a nightmare... not as easy as you have there. By default, it was always touching the pads. Bear in mind that the we have around .5mm from the disk to each pad (right and left) in the calliper. Quite difficult!! ... you need time for adjustment...
it's because you didn't do what he did, you only tighten the caliper while pressing the brake lever, which straightens the caliper in relation to the disk.
good job !!!
I agree with Paul Doucette , it`s a great video keep it up. You should make it your profession you do it so well.
Very nice and simple! Thanks Danyo!
Is that also applicable in japanese bike? And what are the sizes? Both front and for rear?
Where can’t I get disk brakes adapter, I have a old stingray chopper bike that needs disk brakes
Great video! Is it holding up good? Any problems with it?
Thanks, the mount moved slightly after a few rides, I need to readjust the caliper once in a while.
czcams.com/video/8DnvOUL96XI/video.html
I would think you could flip the bracket around and let the screwheads be on the wheel side.
Not a bad idea, either, to add a lockwasher and nut (or locknut) because of all the vibration back there.
Or just feed the bolts through the other way.
Hey Dude, what is your experience about long time? Does the frame handle the new forces from the disc brake? Any problems with these cheap adapters? Best regards, Johannes
Hi, the adapter has moved slightly after a couple of rides, it’s not a big deal, you just need to readjust it once in a while.

Did you replace the axle with a longer one?
can adapt
back
hydraulic system.
Nice
Thanks😃
Thanks You :)
just to confirm i got it right: is this about replacing original wheel (w/the hub not having a disk) w/a wheel having the disk on the hub?
It’s about adding a disc brake mount to a frame that doesn’t have fittings for the disc brake caliper.
Donde consigo esos adaptadores para mi bicicleta
Thanks for your video. How did you attach the disk to the wheel?
Did you have to buy a new wheel?
Yes, you need to get a wheel with disk hub.
can you use this adapter also on the front wheel?
It depends on the fork, I can’t tell you because I haven’t tried it.
Subbed. Get a sponsorship bro. I just bought this part because of you. Lets see what happens.
Can u give me an update?
@@larklhei1158part ain't good enough.cant take the beating.
Do you have a tutorial how to install diskbrake to front wheel?
No, I don’t.
Hwy is that a 22mm or a 31.8mm adapter
Do u have to remove the brake first if you have to remove the wheel?
Yes, it has to be removed.
My hub is hassns pro7, it doesn't have space
Do you face any problem with the bracket so far ? Thx in advance
Yes, you need to adjust it once in a while.
is this frame hard enough to handle the force of the disc calipers put on it?
I wouldn't do that on a bike. Dangerous
Works only when your frame has straight tubes. On hydromorphed alu frame you will only waste time.
DanyoSport. Will this work on a carbon fiber frame?
Yes, it’s an universal fit.
Where do I purchase the bracket
I got it from AliExpress.
What size of the adapter bracket??
The size of the bracket is 22mm.
Can you put it on the fork?
It’s possible but I haven’t tried it yet.
Size of your rotor?
The size of the rotor is 160mm.
Would there be room if you were running a rear wheel ebike hub motor??
I can’t tell you, you need to check your frame and wheel.
Careful as these brackets have an axle width of 10,5, standard, while Ebikes have bigger diameter axles, like 12. Means that you would have to drill the bracket to have it slide on the axle, and this makes the bracket potentially weaker…
What is this product called?
It’s called disc brake mount holder or disc brake mounting bracket.
I need this, can you sell me?
this is asking for trouble. If your bike doesn't have disc brake mounts and you want disc brakes, replace the frame
Why? It's steel. Coaster brakes use similar attachments for decades worth of riding. And it only costs about 10 bucks versus what for a new frame? Probably good for a quick gravel bike conversion.
Nobody ever tried tig welding an aluminum bracket?
No issues with assembly for me czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
Imagine using both brakes v brakes and disc
Yes, I’ve thought about it, but it looks odd to have both brakes.
You'd have to be pretty desperate for disc brakes to use this thing.
Trust me, in wet conditions, disk brakes are life-savers...
Soy venezolano aquí no los hay
I wonder if anyone in China actually uses these, or whether they're just a rip off idea for a cheapo consumer unit, designed to make money off people's curiousity to see if it works. A lot of the crap they make seems to be that, plus having no fear of being sued for liability if it fails. Worst case scenario, it's going to offset the rear wheel the thickness of the bracket. Probably not enough for anyone to notice. The brackets are basically the same thicknesses as coaster brakes have used for decades, so basically "work". If it's aligned properly, which would be my concern, there should be no lateral forces to bend it. But will users will fit it right?
I would rather convert FROM disc brakes. V brakes are much cheaper to replace
I think better weld it instead that mounting...
Mounted these on a bike, and its def nor safe. Janky as hell. Dont do it.
How's your experience been with this adapter? It's brake performance 'bad'?
You must modify with jubilee/pipe clips or zip ties
For real it dosent work rather just hardweld a peice of metal adapter to frame
Hell not safe at all it bends on high speeds
Bruh it work stop hating
I can't understand the meaning of this job...you pay for 2 new wheels, a ridicoulus chinese cable disk brake and montage support ,almost the worth of the bike, you have to tighten bolts every week to avoid damages, and you have to face problems in the frame, due the different way this brake works and orter problems:a lot of work and money wasted, but so much huys says "wonderfull"... Go out from youtube, and think with your brain, folks.
Don't ever buy these adapters please. Its some india chinese conversion
This adapter does not hold at all. The iron it is made of is very thin and bends. At the front, the clamp is 1 millimeter and on the first stop, the brake caliper goes into the spokes of the rim. The clip in the front is breaking.
DON'T BUY IT ! ! ! IT DOESN T WORK ! ! !
Coaster brakes have been using equivalent brackets for decades worth of riding.
That's not dangerous at all ... OMFG!
If you're frame is not built for having a disk brake, then don't do it. Don't modify it. Buy a frame instead that works both ways. We're talking about proper brakes here, brakes saves lives.
It irritates me how gentle and slow you work
Not a good video.....you need to advise on step by step and show the actions on how everything goes. That is why you have all these other people asking questions. Not sure why they say "good video," but then ask a question that you should have instructed at first. The reason I am typing this comment out, is because I have been looking for a decent CZcams tutorial on how to install disc brakes from scratch for my bicycle, and there is NOT ONE video on CZcams that explains the entire process clear.....and it is terrible for people like you to advertise that you have a video that explains how to install, when in fact, you DON'T! Remove your video at once.
He shows you how to do everything... You blind bro?
Lol rjay has one. It's pretty simple except finding a converter that works well and fits your bike.
lmao how to loose your teeth in a month. the bracket is way too thin
Why, it's steel. There no lateral movement on a disc caliper so the strength is equivalent to the height of the bracket.
