Why A 1981 Honda C70 Passport In 2022?

Progressing to the future and with the luxury of the newer and modern machines that transport us from point A to B, sometimes the nostalgia of owning and experiencing the ride of something analog once again brings the joy and simple pleasures to life. Sometimes it's not about how fast you can be but rather fast enough while obeying the speed limit and enjoying knowing you're already going fast.

I see a lot of them going for around $1200. I lucked out and got one that had been sitting in a garage for 10 years for $100. It took a new battery, some carb cleaner, and two kicks for it to start.... they are a marvel of simplicity.

I have one. The kickstart is nice because there is a slipping device on it that locks up when kicking, but slips under the peak force of kickback. Prevents all kickback. It does slip too much sometimes and you have to bump start it though.

I search this up because my dad said this was you needed back then and he wasn't riding a motorcycle ever again. Meanwhile I'm planning on getting a 400cc sportbike.

The aftermarket is rife with replacement and upgrade parts for these bikes.
Thanks for posting this video. That was a fun little tour of your town. =)

Is that what a Tesla on autopilot does? That was almost game over. It's getting increasingly scary for riders of small bikes. I had a 2T Stella (P-series copy) for a long time, I can't imagine being out there on it these days, though. But I do love your bike. Thanks for this quick adventure.

I had a late sixties model. But mine was a C90. Got it up to 62 mph.
I would like to know more about these models. I think there was a C125. Would like to know which one has the largest engine. Looking to go a little faster than 55.
    Have been looking for awhile.

Yea, I've bought the Asian parts for years for all mine and have no problem with their quality. 82/83 models are nice as they're 12v. I've never paid more than a couple hundred for any of mine.

Man I have a CT110 but I am really jonesing for one of these guys. I live in a pretty car centric city so unfortunately even the 110 is a little hairy trying to keep up with traffic, so I already know a 70cc isn’t going to work. It would be nice to find a clean non-runner and slap a lifan 150cc in it.
Anyway, yours is beautiful and I enjoyed the video.

A c70 is geared a bit differently than a ct110. You should be in the 40s when it comes to MPH, which is fine if you stay off the highways

*Starter gets hell beat out of it because of the 6-volt system...not enough power comes into it and that causes 'drag' and 'over-heat in the coils*
*Convert over to 12v. is not hard BUT it means replacing every bulb including the 'pill' lights inside the speedo-housing*
*The wiring is no prob since the increase is only another 6-volts and the voltage-regulator needs update*
( *6-volt batteries suck!* *They are asked to do 'too much w/too little' for an actual motorcycle which is why lights are so dim at low rpm's* )
    ____________
*I HIGHLY advise the 'fattest road tire' you can get on the rims...because there's so little 'road-grip' on the skinny factory tires*
( *My '68 Honda '90' Super-Cub had 'skinnies' which were normal then but they had NONONO 'side-grip' at all on curves and I must've dumped at least 10x between 14 & 17 just because the tires simply sucked* )
    ____________
*I love my '08 'Metropolitan' and it 'goes w/the house' when I croak because I can haul groceries like a freight-train + my 230lbs.of fat ass on the huge saddle!* *It just doesn't care at all...still hits 42 on flats*
( *Just minor performance stuff done but engine/exhaust are fac.stock, + 14-inch windscreen worth every dime of the $77 i paid for it* )

Nice angel blue! They're great bikes. I have 12 myself with one heavily modified with the wide wheels and the front disc conversion.
BTW, you can get a headlight assembly that allows you to replace the bulb itself, it's not OEM, but it will save you some dollars when you want to replace a burnt bulb. Alternatively, you can carefully cut out the bulb from the original headlight and get a socket for a bulb moving foward...either or. There is also a CDI conversion for the 6v motors like yours, which allow you to have better electrical output!
I've always found first gear to be extremely short with 2nd being tall. That being said, you can go up one tooth on the drive sprocket to help....it does slow down acceleration, but it'll reduce your engine whine when cruising

Thank you for the input...I'm new to this machine...I've noticed there's not a whole lot of 3rd party manufacturers making any aftermarket parts for this in the U.S. unless I'm not searching them properly. Yes the previous owner did have an aftermarket headligh assembly with one that can be removed of the bulb but much rather have it in a complete stock oem form for now.

Nice condition. I would say you paid $800 to $1000. A friend of mine has a 1983 C70 Passport with a clean Title but not in the same condition as yours and he wants $700. He paid a mechanic $350 to fix it up and get it running good. I don't know what he originally paid years ago. Probably $200. He's got about $550 in it. I think $700 is a bit much for his 1983 C70 since it isn't nearly as nice as yours. It's blue but a different shade of Blue. We'll see

It’s fun and efficient, not fast. I kind of hate the “semi-auto.” I’d much prefer a clutch and neutral between first and second, but it’s not horrible. Hope that helps. For me it’s more ‘why not,’ but I just happened upon mine.

"Should be in a museum" Screw that....drive it. I have/had several antique Vespas and I rode the shit out of them. You are not the owner, you are the caretaker. Drive it. Enjoy it. And then sell it when you are done and let someone else can enjoy it. You only live once.
