    Looking to fully open very soon, obviously its a bit tricky due to the hands on approach to it all, but it'll definitely be before end of July! that is for sure

      soon, tbh if you are coming from afar i would wait for the next season, itll be much more finished by then. only focussing on getting bare bones done before it opens and building on it. deffo next year if you are popping over from afar

    This project gave me a strong sense of (literal) deja vu and I don't know why. But I was reading Poptronics in the early 1970s and interested in synths, so I very likely saw the article back then and I dunno, perhaps I was for a while giving serious thought to building one and that was what my brain was trying unsuccessfully to remember. Needless to say I didn't build one, but in 1977 I did build another Poptronics cover article synth, the PAiA Gnome. Which would be a cool thing for the MOEE too, if you can find one.

    @Soundbrigade Před 3 lety +1

    I managed to order all transistors to the Syke-Tune, but decided to drop the ICs as they were too expensive - $10-15 each. CMOS could do the same job. The "computer", don't remember if that was mentioned is a Pseudo Random Noise Generator, the kind often seen as noise generators in some synthesizers, but run on slow speed. Normally made up by shiftregisters and EXOR-gates.
    The fun thing is that back in 197......4, I think I did actually sat and taped the PCB, had a friend at the Swedish computercompany DATASAAB to etch the PCB (original), but I never got around to get the components and build it. I am still prepared to build a version of the THING, but maybe alter some parts like the filter.
    Anyway - thanks a lot LMNC for the review. And articles on the MACHINE are out there, or check AmericanRadioHistory, where loads of scanned copies of old electronic magazines are available.

      @THISMUSEUMISNOTOBSOLETE  Před 3 lety +3

      thinking of safety of kids is on my mind but at the same time they need to be supervised. but everything is bolted down for instance plinths are bolted to the floor and whatever is on them if they have a precarious centre of gravity are secured, this is down to the safety of kids, I have done as much as I can from my side to not cause harm. but in the end of the day they need to be supervised, and there are a number of notices stating this fact. it isn't a family fun time frenzy ha. if there are kids going mental there might be some conversations to pop them down to the local creche :D...... saying that a few kids have already been around and are far more responsible than I gave them credit with my risk assessments. but there are always those super hyperactive ones so I gotta be careful

    Hey more of a general question regarding the museum, lots of your exhibits are hands on, at the best of times synth modules can be temperamental and somewhat fragile. Are you worried at all about the constant usage of these exhibits causing modules to break and such?

    • @THISMUSEUMISNOTOBSOLETE
      @THISMUSEUMISNOTOBSOLETE  Před 3 lety +2

      well yep. one of the things is coming to the museum nothing is actually guaranteed to work. things break, its part of the process. hopefully people are careful. I have had quite a bit of experience with building for exhibitions and had had nightmare scenarios and good reliable turnouts. im prepared, but like I said nothing is guaranteed to work.

    Hi! Cool video! I bought a psych tone from an estate sale in Detroit earlier this year. Fully functional. It really seems to burrow its way into your psyche. I love it, but have decided to pass it along to another synth/vintage gear nerd. Wondering if you or anyone on this thread might know a good platform for a sale. :)

    I wonder what this would sound like with a clock speed in the audio range...

  • @crafty_geek
    @crafty_geek Před 3 lety

    I strongly suggest swapping the visual representation lower than the functional antique, and adding to the representation circuit something that cranks the clock back to a default after say 5min idle. Could be highly kid friendly.

    • @LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER
      @LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER Před 3 lety

      It's too tall for kids anyways. The representation isn't musical in this setup. The other item I was.thinkinh of putting on a timer but then I swapped.the power supply so figured fudge it

    • @crafty_geek
      @crafty_geek Před 3 lety

      @@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER sorry , I meant the silent representation, if slightly ruggedized & perhaps with a clock that resets, would be a good piece to intentionally put into kid range. Apologies for not being clearer.
