  • July 9 on The Story: Earlier this year, Gov. Tina Kotek's administration saw what was perhaps its first controversy since her election, as multiple top staffers in her office abruptly resigned. It soon became clear that the exodus had to do with the role that Kotek's wife, Aimee Kotek Wilson, was being given in the administration. The matter prompted several complaints to the Oregon Government Ethics Commission, alleging that Kotek violated a conflict of interest rule, engaging in "nepotism" and waste of taxpayer dollars. Recently, the ethics commission met to discuss those allegations, and after an hour-long debate, they deadlocked on a vote on whether to further investigate the claims. That tie vote put the matter to bed, as far as the ethics commission is concerned.

Such corruption. One party rule. We might as well be living in Venezuela.
