- Continuation: King Kong vs Godzilla was a planned sequel from Toho’s Monsterverse that would’ve had Gojira get killed and resurrected. This movie even had a lot of ideas bleed into other films like Mothra. It centered around a volcanic setting where the rematch would take place and the whole idea of Kong being responsible for the death of Godzilla is just insane!

I remember back in the day there were so many rumors about how Toho filmed two endings for the original King Kong vs Godzilla. One were Kong wins and one where Godzilla. It wasn’t until the 2010s when Toho confirmed to not be true.
2010s? Toho confirmed? But the original version of the movie has always been there. Godzilla historians have been writing about it at least since the 1970s in various magazines.

And while it's true some production members stated otherwise there are 2 major problems with that
1) the statements came around the 80s. 20 years after the film released in theaters. That's more than enough for them to lose credibility
2) as you said- toho debunked any suspicion about the two endings and they didn't change it on their websites
Funny thing with there not being two endings when I watched the movie with my dad in the early 80's as a kid I specifically remember the ending where they tumble into the water and at the end right before the credit scene it shows Godzilla swimming away with his backside shown to the screen with no Kong in site after they fall into the water.💯 But supposedly this version doesn't exist.😂 I remember the film like that and always thought that's how it ended and I saw every Godzilla movie ever made especially the old ones with my dad. They would come out on the weekends early in the morning until noon time at least in the mid 80s. Mandela effect..?😅 The reason that ending makes more sense to me in my opinion is because Kong can't swim. I've never known Kong to swim. Not even in any of the old Kong movies with just Kong is he known to swim. Which is the reason in the Godzilla vs Kong they brought Kong to the island by air balloons in the first place to fight Godzilla. If he could swim then he would have just swam to the island without any help from man. Just saying this to me makes more sense. But to each there own. (Figure of speech)✌🏾

My working theory for Kong’s underwater victory in the original is that the electric power that he gained near the end of the fight all discharged in the water and absolutely zapped Godzilla.

Oh that's interesting. i remember back in middle school in 2006 i heard on another script of Godzilla winning against Kong by dragging him under water while he was swimming away. I think you or someone else mentioned on Kong was close to being in Destroy all monsters and joining Godzilla and the other Kaiju's Against Godzilla. There was a lot of ideas and some were cool that didn't happen back then in the Godzilla franchise, like a film called Godzilla vs Shimo that was scrapped. Until now he is fighting a Monster named Shimo. I did Enjoy King Kong Vs Godzilla and i should give it a rewatch. Great Video Klayton ^^

Even as a kid the ending never made sense that Kong would win an underwater battle. It just seemed if Kong had won it would have been by Godzilla retreat in his own element and Kong having to surface to breath.

I remember reading about this cancelled idea from the “king unmade “ book . I wasn’t into the idea at first but now realize how some of these elements were moved into the recent monster verse films , I’m slightly wishing we got to see this movie too .

There's also one aspect you forgot to mention here: Back in the 60s and earlier, King Kong was Japan's favorite monster. You call him a "villain from the West" but that's not who Kong was at the time. Not only they loved Kong, but he was the Hero monster. Godzilla was still a Heel character and his loss was still acceptable from the way they saw it.

Ever heard of something called "Licensing Rights"? Kong was and still infamous for his complicated copyright history and who owns what part of his IP and they get to be very demanding if someone wanted to use them.
Never heard of it and I looked on somewhere and they only show the only ones that I remember is the first King Kong from 1933 the one in 1962 with Godzilla King Kong escape then remaking of King Kong back in 77 and Kong lives the cartoon King Kong and came in the 60s and the one came out in 05 with Jack black then after that this one where he was on skull Island with Samuel Jackson then the one that came out in 2021 Any more other than that idk

Calm down, you’re talking about a kaiju that can be taken out with bullets versus a fire breathing nuclear based monster, so it is not hard to believe that this is an uneven matchup. Let’s just be clear there’s a big difference between the Toho, Kong and the Americanized Kong….. even in the new fights of Godzilla versus Kong and Godzilla X Kong… the only thing keeping Kong from being worm food is that Godzilla never directly hits him with his breath…. should Godzilla connect just the radiation from getting hit? @@asafakiva1619 that depends on which version you watched in the Japanese version Godzilla won American version King Kong won the battle was clearly divided against cultural lines east versus west and since the movie was Westernized or American audiences to make money, yeah Kong had to win…. certified, and of course, Kong was also the protagonist in the movie Godzilla being the antagonist…. But in a realistic fight, Kong wouldn’t last one hour with Godzilla…. You’re talking about a kaiju that can be injured to conventional means versus a guy who lives and breaths nuclear radiation…. One of the BS notions in the 60s movie and even the new one is that Godzilla never directly hit King Kong with his breath. The nuclear radiation would kill him either instantly or slowly.

Realistically what we got is the most logical outcome, modern godzilla is just way too powerful compared to Kong who's only recently been allowed to grow bigger than his original movie plot.
Also who in their right mind would want Godzilla to die in his own movie to King Kong?
That's like hoping Batman kills Superman, its silly. This is also one of the few Godzilla's who's basically a good guy, he's territorial and grumpy af to human and other titans messing and picking fights with him but dude's a nice version of Godzilla.

I think you mean the third movie in the franchise because this Godzilla was still depicted as a bad guy it wasn't until after this movie he was depicted as a good guy

@@kennethsatria6607yeah the thumbnail is from GVK concept art. Both this movie and the concepts for GVK had the fiery final battle ideas. They reused a lot of old ideas for newer movies
I actually had a vhs that was a documentary/summary of sorts to old monster movies. 11 minutes or so was dedicated to godzilla movies of the Showa era. It was were I first heard the myth that there were two versions of the movie.
I read about this movie on Toho Kingdom... I was kinda glad it wasn't made, not because I'm butthurt about Kong killing Godzilla (mostly anyway) but because I have a hard time believing Toho had the budget to pull alot of these effects off adequately, Like the scorpion couldn't be a suit and no way would it be stop motion, Godzilla and Kong fighting in an erupting volcano, Kong picking up and interacting with a baby. It all seemed too ambitious for the time and budget.
For Mothra vs Godzilla I assumed that Godzilla was knocked unconscious and somehow his body was driven by that one storm at the beginning of that movie to the land he came from. This lost project is one thing but that's how I envisioned the setup of that movie.

I remember as a kid back in the 80s at my great uncles house watching Grampa Munster presents King Kong Vs Godzilla where he told me in Japan, Godzilla won. In hind sight, at the time, King Kong was the more famous monster

With something as durable as the monsterverse Godzilla, and most modern godzilla being on a powerful standard, yeah its gonna take a lot of plot armor for Kong to actually win, this isn't the showa era anymore Godzilla's been built upon with all his movies

I mean, sure, he wins in the end, but he always needs assistance... except for that battle with Kong and the dragon. That Kong fight was rigged from the start though, for both sides admittedly.

Kong is a character that has famously been killed by WW1 airplanes. Godzilla is a character that's famously renown for surviving nuclear bombs. Do the math
fr, kong was sloppy in gvk because he was sedated literally the entire movie. some scenes more than others, but still sedated nonetheless.
It was a more even match back then, in Monsterverse, it is not even close.

(4:25) I knew about Godzillas body being used as a tourist attraction for the scraped sequel to "King Kong vs Godzilla" for a little while now but this is the first time ive heard that it was also going to be the original idea for "Godzilla vs Mothra (1964)" as well. Even though im happy with the movie we did get but what I find interesting is that even that early in the series they were trying to connect these other monster movies together in the same universe. The easy explanation of how Kong defeated Godzilla and how Godzilla survived is Godzilla is a reptile. The water was so cold, Godzilla was immediately forced into hibernation and was able to be revived because he was never really dead.

I first heard of KKvG:Continuation in early 90's. Kong imprints on a child. Sound familiar? Electricity bringing Kong back to life? Sound familiar? GvK had both. They just switched Kong from Godzilla.

Godzilla was treated kind of like an oversized dinosaur that just so happens to spit blue fire in King King vs. Godzilla. Almost like the events of the 1954/56 films never happened... Mothra vs. Godzilla really seemed to make Godzilla more of a threat again.

I’m 62 years old i watched the original KvG and all toho movies on tv while they were still in theaters in japan there is 1 version of the movie the American version is the original movie with an english speaking Japanese actor and 2 american actors just like the original goji movie was english dubbed with an english speaking Japanese actor and actor Raymond burr everyone knows goji swam away under water while kong swam back to his island.
Good thing they didn't do that. Godzilla is much more intimidating than a big monke.

Yes the electric power flowing through King Kong did hurt Godzilla but Godzilla has walked through power lines of high voltage before so he was able to withstand it. Growing up with Godzilla I believe that they just couldn't defeat each other so Godzilla stayed in his environment underwater while King Kong swam away. Both giving up on the battle. That would be more believable to me and others. So that's my theory on this subject.

the two combatants as they were in the 62 film i can easily see kong defeating and killing the godzilla of that era. kong had the electrical powers at that time, too. however i can not see that same outcome for the mosnters as we now know them today. godzilla is just too large and powerful + that dragon breath! it would be like a normal size person fighting a fully grown great white shark with laser vision.

At the end of the day, it was not seen by the audience. There was no description of a fatality so as far as I’m concerned, it’s not Canon. You can hypothesize all day what happened on the water but again it is not canon even if you want to argue it was the new movie has the rest of who is king of that beasts.
