    Hi Nikki my wife and I are looking at buying couples van and are looking at Canyon caravans just wondering how have you found your Canyon van so far? Also when did you purchase and were from tank you, enjoy your travels. all the best.

    • @NikkiBeal
      @NikkiBeal  Před rokem

      We purchase directly from Canyon in Melbourne. Purchased in 2021 & delivered in 2022 (we had some delays due to covid). All in all, our van has held up really well. We've been living it in full-time for about 18 months now, & taken it to some fairly remote places. We recently finished the Gibb River Road & only had a few minor issues which we easily fixed. We haven't had any major issues which has required us to go back to Canyon or get things fixed under warranty. We've met a lot of different people travelling in a lot of different caravans, & all the brands have a few "lemons" & most brand new caravans (regardless of brand) seem to have a few early teething issues - so it's worth while allowing a bit of time early on with your van (whatever brand you decide to get) to iron out any issues before heading off on any big adventures. But, yeah, our Canyon has done us well 👍

    Loved the video, and the new van looks incredible!
    You're so right about the bunks on the awning side - we've never considered that before, but I think the Canyon Glacier is the first we've seen with it.

      Thanks for watching! We're really happy with the van 😀 We looked at quite a few layouts & this was the only one we saw with bunks on the awning side (there may be others but we didn't come across them!). We also really like the fridge being opposite the door which is another quirky Glacier feature.

    Hey Nikki, if you got yourself an over the door drying rack (also called in our house a Paris flat clothes line), it would be a great shelf for that door @ 18:56 and somewhere to dry your clothes on a rainy day.

    We are looking to travel next year and was looking at 24ft caravans, some sales people told us that we shouldnt buy that size because a lot of caravans will say you are too big, can you provide some advice on this?

    • @NikkiBeal
      @NikkiBeal  Před rokem

      Hi! Sorry I've only just seen this so I hope my reply isn't too late. It really depends on where you want to stay on your travels. Personally, I don't think a 24ft van would be a problem. Sure, there might be the occasional caravan park that turns you away, BUT there are plenty with CP sites for big rigs, & there are always Showgrounds & free camps. What I would consider is the weight of your van & your tow vehicle, and make sure you're under your GCM. And if you want to camp away from caravan parks, make sure you're set up accordingly (ie: solar / battery combo, fresh & grey water tanks). Hope that helps!

  • @pek5117
    @pek5117 Před 2 lety

    Wow, its huge. Im only a single person and that's way more than enough, I get you're a family of 3 but it would sleep 4-5 easy. I love cooking so that kitchen was amazing. Microwave will be handy also. The Bigger fridge was a good choice same as the bathroom/shower option. A lot better than the combined one where you basically have the shower going onto the toilet. Once you get the new batteries you will be set for everything. The solar will be handy and you will be pretty much off grid. That dust fan is great especially with the red dust we have here in Aus, it will ruin everything. Is Charlotte going to be homeschooled for the next few years? Im guessing you can do all that on a laptop now anyway. All the best on your travels, ill sub to your other channel.

    • @NikkiBeal
      @NikkiBeal  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! We think it's a pretty good size for a family living full time on the road. There was an endless amount of things we could have added to our van (and everything's a compromise of some description!), but we're happy with the choices we went with. We've been homeschooling for quite a few years now and really love the flexibility it allows us. Thanks so much for watching and joining us over on our travel channel! Much appreciated!!

      @@NikkiBeal Start saving for those batteries I guess! Look forward to seeing where you go, I haven't traveled much and it was mainly for work with set arrivals and departures so I only ever saw the inside of military bases.

    Great video. Love your van. One question- do the bedrooms have doors or curtains for privacy? I looked but couldn’t tell. Have you started your trip yet?

    • @NikkiBeal
      @NikkiBeal  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Kerry, there is a curtain between the kitchen & the bunks (you might be able to see 'Dexter the Monkey' holding it out of the way!), and Yes! We are officially "Full-time Vanners" now 🎉

  • @rachelhickingbotham2141

    Love the tour, thanks so much for all the details! My Charlotte is also nine - I’d love to do this too but the biggest thing stopping me is how do I make money on the road? Did you just save enough to pay for life on the road or will you stop & work along the way?

    • @NikkiBeal
      @NikkiBeal  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for watching, Rachel! I think "funds" are one of the biggest hurdles most people face when deciding to do the Big Lap. We have been lowering (or eliminating) our cost of living for several years so we can live as low cost as possible, and saving like crazy! Because we do not have a time limit for our travels, we can stop and pick up work if required (there is a surprising amount of casual / temp work out there). Our only costs now are our day to day 'on-the-road' costs (no mortgage, caravan repayments, personal loans etc, even our phones are prepaid), we're set up to free-camp so that keeps costs down, and we're not in a rush so we can manage our fuel consumption somewhat. Not everyone has the luxury to take their time, but that was one of the things we really wanted to work towards to make our travels work for us.

    I stopped watching after I saw the Roosters cup! Jokes. I love the van tour. I’m about to take the big step of purchasing a caravan. Just me and my dog so likely will be a bit smaller. I’ve also hit subscribe to see more of your journey. Safe travels

      Thanks Lisa! So excited for you, hope to see you out there one day soon! I definitely think there are a lot more choices in caravans if you're looking for a smaller one, and we will most likely downsize once Charlotte is older.
