    It's actually interesting because Harley in the new animated series really only gains the accent in the episode with her parents, aside from a few instances where it randomly comes out when she talks. It's kind of seems like a part of the characters origins, she doesnt want to have the accent because of her bad past with her parents.

      A lot of people loose their regional accents after moving out of said region and only when they go back or have visitors who still live there it comes back.
      My fav example is John "Captain Jack' Barrowman, I saw a doc about him and when he's out and about in the U.S. he has a mid-west accent but when he visits his parents in their home his Scottish brogue starts kicking in.

Injustice Harley is close second because I love when she appears but haven't gone through most of the storyline
    Overall giving Harley a sense of self beyond Joker's "favorite" goon is when I appreciate her most. 3 Harley's that really deserve some acknowledgment are Telltale's, the one from the Lego Batman movie, and the current DC Superhero Girls cartoon. I really like the flip of the script of having Harley be the abusive one in the relationship with John Doe in TT, letting her have a lot of agency that other versions don't really get to have. Having the SHG one basically just be the villain equivalent to their Batgirl also lets them get around the darker parts of her origins by just having her be an overly dedicated Supervillain fangirl. Plus having Tara Strong voice both of them is so much fun. And Lego Harley is just a fun character. I'm a sucker for characters voiced by Jenny Slate.

    9:28 Honestly I think the time and place for this show, after Titans kind of hurt its reputation for all of the wrong reasons. People _actually_ took issue with villains swearing. Only so few of the villains wouldn't swear publicly, the only ones I could think of being Lex, _maybe_ Penguin(?), this show's version of King Shark and this show's version of Clayface when he's not acting a role that would (sadly those later two do swear, which I especially have a problem with King Shark's case, he is *_WAY_* too pure for that kind of thing). Plus the villains are are allowed to be more naturally degenerate in general, like with Bane, obscure character from the comics Maximilian Zeus and Dr. Psycho.

Plus her interactions of being a full blown hero with other heroes is great. Plus I love the message of everyone has a second chance to be good. The worst person can do good. Hell even to the point she's batman partner and is the only person bruce can just talk to since they both lost everything.

I like seeing weird adaptations where Harley Quinn helps to reform the Joker a little, where she teaches him to respect her, and then they go back to beating up the bat together. I guess seeing her change the Joker kind of brings her backstory full circle to me, she acomplished her goal, maybe it took a long time, and corrupted her along the way, but she finally helped reform the Joker, even if just a little bit.

    @Justmyhandle Před 4 lety

    *My personal current favorite depictions of Harley Quinn would probably go in this order:*
    *1) DC animated universe-* From Batman TAS-Return of the Joker, the original Harley still resonates with me the most. Arleen Sorkin is also still far & away my favorite voice (Tara Strong 2nd).
    *2) Harleen-* Still the best written Harley origin imo, shame it hasn't yet been adapted into film.
    *3) Arkham universe-* Asylum will likely always be my favorite for Arleen Sorkin voicing again, but these games perfectly remolded classic Harley into a grittier (albeit, more sexualized) evolution.
    This re-imagining of Quinn is well realized enough to stand on its own merits while at the same time effectively recreating TAS' iconic Gothic noire atmosphere in a more quasi-realistic tone.
    *4) Injustice-* Best blend of classic Harley meets modern for me. She faithfully recreates the character that clung to Joker, but transitions into the independent New 52- esque Harley over time.
    I thoroughly enjoyed her character arc from Joker's loyal abused right-hand to a more complex guilt-stricken mother, and finally a leader in the Insurgency working with Batman of all people.
    *5) Harley Quinn animated series-* Because this show is ongoing, it could go downhill in the future. Currently, however, it has my favorite take on Quinn's "emancipation" from Joker (Take notes, DCEU).
    Her unfiltered mouth & dark comedy are gold, arguably the character's most mature interpretation to date at least in terms of freedom of expression. It has something for potentially every fan.
    It mixes elements from multiple past source materials across different shows & comics to create this layered but cohesive amalgam. Kaley isn't my favorite voice, but her version is competent.
    *6) White Knight-* A considerable departure from Harley stories fans were used to back then, but a welcome one that introduced a quality villain in Neo Joker and a creative new dynamic for Harleen.
    The conflict between her and Marian is almost reminiscent of Fight Club's psychological symbolism with Edward Norton vs. Brad Pitt, reflecting two opposing directions she could have gone.
    *7) New 52-* I think the majority would agree, one of the only quality things to come out of this reboot was the debut of the modernized independent Harley who'd serve as the DCEU's main inspiration.
    Transforming from a poster-girl for abuse victims into an almost Feminist icon of overcoming trauma to become your own person and find yourself again, this Harley has been influential to generations.
    Badass, zany and tragic like the original but arguably more three-dimensional, evolving into an on-again-off-again antihero, this comic run proved Harley "don't need no man" to be a compelling lead.
    *8) DCEU-* Don't misunderstand, I don't hate or even strongly dislike this version by any means. I simply love it the least and see it as having had the most potential wasted in context of its execution.
    Margot Robbie's performance is my favorite thing to come out of the DCEU (along with Gal Gadot). I can't see anyone else bringing Harley to life so well in live-action, she's been brilliant thus far.
    Her meta-humor is also comparable to Deadpool's, though it does fall short. Unfortunately, Robbie alone couldn't save the two cinematic messes she's starred in. Her wacky energy can get repetitive.
    Worse, so much of her background was streamlined, taking little-no advantage of the wealth of source material available. Lastly, her emancipation has been rushed, largely due to studio interference.

      Is it possible to objectively quantify if a version of a character is better than the other? I would say you can't and it's 100% a subjective thought/opinion so in this case saying someone is the best Harley Quinn might as well mean it's your favorite and viceversa

    • @samuelturner6076
      @samuelturner6076 Před 4 lety +1

      Kamposteria7 Eh, I sorta agree with that, but also disagree with that. I feel like you can say things like “this writing is bad” from a non subjective standpoint and that also extends to characters and their representation. For example take the last airbender (film) if you compare it to the source material I think it’s fairly easy to say the characters are written and represented badly. Therefore I do think there can be non subjective rankings to characters representations, however when it comes to “the best” then it does become a lot more subjective.
      I also disagree that saying the best X equates to my favourite X, firstly because then that implies there is no objectivity at all (which I sorta agree with on the grand scale of things), those words have different meanings and connotations for a reason, secondly because I have rankings that contrary to that. Eg I think Sun and Moon ate the best Pokémon games, but my favourite Pokémon games are RSE.
      If you said I think/feel that this is the best X then it’s all good, there’s subjectivity in that, but without that then objectivity is being conveyed.
      Anyway Idk why I pontificated for so long on this point so soz, and as I said I was mostly joking because imo the title was a bit instigating with the words THE BEST (as if it were an objective statement) even though that wasn’t Drakes intent because he’s not trying to start flame wars and such.
