Got lucky and found a 06 Wrangler Rubicon with 135k miles for $12000! Never seen one under 15 grand, even stock. I feel so blessed!
TJ FTW!
Being a new tj owner, best channel I’ve found!! Learning lots from you sir.
Thanks for watching brother!
Just bought 06 tj , only 58,000 miles on it , I’m in love with this Jeep . Love the channel!!
Thanks!
It’s funny, when I bought my tj I thought the Rocky Mountain edition sticker on it was a gimmick the previous owner put on. Until now I had never heard of it 🤷♂️ pretty cool to learn stuff like that. Thanks, great video!
From a fellow TJ owner, keep the Jeep vids coming. I recently discovered your channel and love it.
Thank you!
This video was extremely informative! I just bought my first TJ like a month ago. I’m trying to learn all the “ism’s” and your channel has been a huge help. Thanks!
Just bought one too and love it more than the two YJ's that I owned. 1999 with 70k miles and a 4.0 one owner
Fun fact, the SE 2.4 is the same engine as the Neon SRT4 just without upgraded internals, I have the 2.4 and will be boosting it probably this winter :)
Such wealth of information. Thank you for keeping it short, sweet and to the point!
Wow, all these great limited TJ's. I wish that I had got a Tomb Raider edition. That's Boss. -97 Sport.
Thanks for the History of the Jeep I like the LJ
Most complete and detailed TJ video I’ve seen, keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks Kyle!
Ahh my 04’ TJ X, a true example of how it’s possible to absolutely hate and love something simultaneously. The engine has never let me down, the 500 other parts have made up for that but turning my hair gray
Great video, I just want to add that the LJ is in fact a TJ, and is technically called a TJU. LJ was just a name that became popularized because it was easier to say and remember (Long Jeep) than TJ Unlimited.
RM Stop being a technical bitch
Get ur own fucking channel, you parasite.
@Tanner /Mitch: Real Jeepers share information with other Jeepers. They don't act like 5th grade girls. We may have to re-name you 'Sandy' cause ya'll are being lil beachs.
RM, I have a 2004 LJU (LJ) and I think it's great, the extra room makes a big difference.
@@jimmystewart3288 The longer wheelbase also made towing, hillclimbs, and ride better. An LJ roofrack is also more stable for hauling a jonboat, sailboat, canoes, kayaks, lumber, 4x8 sheets, etc.
That Willy’s special edition looks awesome!
Iv been involved in jeeps in some way the last 15 years and i still learned a few things. Great video
Back in 2002 I bought a used 97 TJ 2.5 cylinder. My first jeep. About 10 years later I hit a deer with it. The deer ran off as I was only going around 30 mph. The damage to the jeep was minimal. Neither air bag deployed. The radiator had no leaks. The majority of damage was to the grill and most all the plastic on the front.
When the insurance adjuster examined the damage he told me I was within a couple hundred dollars of totaling it. WTF! It was very drivable once the headlights were somewhat re-aligned by hand. This 97 TJ still has almost no rust today. I asked the adjuster why... He said to let him finish and he will show me what I am facing.
When done he showed me the manufacturer tag on the driver door. The Jeep was actually built in early August of 1996. One of the very first TJs ever! Thus the problem. He said just to replace the front grill there was a waiting period of at least 6 months and the grill came with no primer paint. This is a one piece stamped metal grill. No spot welding. Just one piece of metal. Some of the other parts ran into this same problem as my jeep is what is considered a "early 97" TJ. These were built for a few months. Then the engineers made several changes to the body. Even the running step boards on my jeep are almost impossible to find. I had two guys give me their TJ side step boards and neither were even close. They looked the same. However, the way they bolted to the underside of the jeep was completely different! Every time I need to replace a body part my wallet experiences a rape job.
I bought this jeep from an old guy in his mid 70s and I seriously doubt he had any idea about this. He sold it as his wife did not want to park her Lincoln Continental next to that jeep in the garage! Long story...
If I had any idea of the difference in early 1997 jeeps I would have walked away from this. However, I still have it and other than being very expensive to repair some parts due to almost impossible to find it has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.
The insurance adjuster and one scrap yard guy are the only two people I met that were aware of the early 1997 Wrangler Jeep TJ.
I was lucky enough to find a 2001 TJ with Dana 44 rear axle .
@@jeremyfufushnick2965 Factory lockers were only offered on Rubicons. The TracLoc(sp?) is a clutch-type limited-slip that was optional on other TJs for the D35 or D44 rear.
There is a guy on you tube he’s was a 2000 with a 6 cylinder you said that year are 4 cylinder,
@@douglaskaiser5374 4cyl Jeeps were offered from the CJ through the TJ years. 6cyls were offered too, and CJs even came with V8s for a few short years.
I have a rhd 2006 TJ with a D44 rear
@@carolusartyom4072 ...ah yes...I hated it when a rhd came down the assembly line . It was always a pain in the butt to do your job on them . In 2006 I used to do the brake test on the line and when a rhd came along I ended up way behind and had to shut down the line .
I now understand why Im having a hard time finding a 2004 rubicon LJ.....This was super informational. I watched it to the end. Thank you.
Glad it helped! Thanks man
I have #726 of the “Rubihara” Edition. Love the LJ’s.
TJ....the last true jeep.... JEEPS DON"T HAVE 4 DOORS !!!!!!
Soothsayer 4417 exactly
Man I believe this to a T. I hate jk, I hate the jl, I love tj’s they are my favorite. I cannot wait to buy one.
Ad I don’t have a problem with them making new products. Just don’t call them jeeps !
I love all wranglers, tjs are my fav but I dont mind the jk or jl. However that damn renegade needs to get the fuck out lol
I have a 2017 JKU that hangs with the rest of em. I have a YJ and TJ as well, but I love the JKU when I want to take my wife and kids. Far more comfortable for the whole family.
Great job here , very well informed.
I had a 98, and now a 2003. I wasn’t aware of the slight HP increase , nor some other differences too .
Thanks for doing this
Thank you!
I would add that I had an opportunity to buy the newer, next model generation (jk ?) , But instead opted to buy the 15 year old TJ .. that’s quite telling.
@@publikenemi49same here. 03 TJ
I'm a newbie to jeep info, still looking.Great for those if us who no so little about the differences. Thank you
Amazing jeep Tj videos keep up the good work
Thanks!
Bought my TJ brand new in 97, for 15k no radio, back seat, or AC. It even has manual steering. I'm still driving it today, a great vehicle.
I saw base model TJs in '95, '96, and '97 for around $9K. They already had '97 TJs at the dealer when I was buying my '95 YJ in December 1995. My YJ even had the beefier TJ tailgate hinges and the TJ windshield bumpers on the hood.
Great video, Just what you need before you buy a tj to help you buy exactly what you want. Thank you.
Thanks Pedro!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Very good info, thanks for the video!
I believe it is pronounced more like “Cone-yak”. I could be wrong on that. Cool video idea!
I think your right. Thank you!
Hell of a breakdown!
Bought my 97 just over a year ago with 210,000 miles with 10 grand of suspension mods already done for less than that. Best purchase ever.
Just got my wife a Super Clean 2006 LJ, we love this thing
Very cool! Congrats!
Great info. Lots of homework. Thanks!
Thank you!
Awesome video i have a 2004 rocky mountain edition and I love it
Thanks Kevin!
I will be gtting a TJ soon and I can't wait!
Very cool!
Will never sell my 2006 Golden Eagle. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned and easily the most capable off road vehicle I’ve been in even in stock form. Aftermarket intake and exhaust with 31” tyres
Amazing video! Thanks for the info. I have a 2006 65th Anniversary Edition
Thanks hunter! Very cool!
Me too! One of the best daily driver versions yet.
I have a 6spd and I love it !
Good video u done your home work and your ride looks awesome with the mods you've added.
Thanks Brad!
Great vid man thx! Lookin for myself a TJ now...:)
Thank you!
Just bought an 06 Rubicon 6-Speed Manual and there is a lot of good, accurate information in here. Awesome dude, earned a new sub.
Thanks brother! Congrats on the new jeep!
I have an 06 Rubi 6 speed as well! Love it!
@@howzaou812 Awesome man! Enjoy it!
My 02 Apex only has 47000 miles and I love it!
Good job! Loved this video!
Thanks bro!
My 01 tj half doors have the same outside door latches my 72 javelin had. Other than the AMC straight 6 engine, these door latches were probably the last AMC era design on a jeep before AMC completely disappeared.from them.
thank you / very informative , done well / thanks again
Good information here thanks...
Very informative video 👍
Thanks!
New owner of a 2005 Rocky Mountain Edition in Patriot Blue. I love it!
Congrats!
I had the second set of rims you showed on my 97 SE
Such a great video!
Thanks!
Great work!
Thanks Eric!
I found an 04 Rubicon, bone stock, 96k miles for $11k. That thing had never seen even a gravel road. Got her 4" in the air and on 33s and plenty dirty on mountain roads.
I'm stuck between the AX-15 and the NSG370 (choosing the year based on desired tranny). Though I know with the right bell housing and a few bits you can bolt the AX-15 into any of them. Seems like any issues with the AX-15 have been sorted out, so for around $1600 you can get a brand new, zero miles, non-rebuilt AX-15 with the latest upgrades, though people seem to really like the NSG370 for the gearing on the freeway. I do a lot of freeway miles between adventure spots, so I do consider it. Plus if I ever find an LJ, it'd have to be 05 or 06 and would have that NSG370. I really want an LJ but the prices are crazy. So I'm open to 97 thru 99 or 05-06 short wheelbase. As for T-case, I figure the 4:1 ratio is overkill for my desert type adventures, I'd only be crawling when obstacles show up, not looking for obstacle courses. I've heard people complain that the 4:1 is too slow for sand and general dirt roads, where 1:1 might not be enough reduction...so I figure I'd go with a non-rubi, and then not worry about the axles as I'd be tossing Currie 44/60 under there and a new rear shaft with the slip yoke eliminator and dual CV, etc. I figure 4.88s wuld be fine for 35's with the manual tranny. Any tips, advice, things to look out for, bad ideas with my proposed build?
I have a 2004 LJ that I think is the best. I'm the second owner and I guess I lucked out because I have Dana 44's on the front and rear axels. Great channel, just subed.
Thanks for the sub man I appreciate it
I have a silver 60th , 70k on the clock .. love that jeep
It's been through Africa , Europe and now resides in Australia.
Enjoy your videos. New Jeep owner, Thank you. Mine looks a lot like your except the hard top. Was wondering would you recommend a barricade bumper winch or the stinger bumper winch?cant make up my mind. Thank you.
Thanks man! Thats a tough one man they both look great. The stinger is very agressive and the barricade looks great too lol
good video, but your voice was so quiet that my speakers nearly blew out when the ad popped up in the middle.
I really wish I could've got a rubi but at least my 02 sport was completely optioned out
...I have a powerpoint due at midnight... KYLESVT VIDEO IT IS!
LOL
I finished it!
I finished my homework. KYLESVT after👍🏽
Alot of information!!!!!!! I thought I was a specification nerd lol....
Had a new 2000 TJ Sport back in the day. Sold when the kids came along. Just bought an old 1997 TJ Sport. Noticed that the passenger front seat doesn’t flip all the way forward like it did in my 2000 to aid rear passengers enter/exit. Only the backrest part of the seat in my ‘97 flips forward, not the part your butt sits on. Just wondering what year this changed? Thanks! Great video, figured out I have Dana 35 rear axle with your help :)
I want the tomb raider edition. Looks so good.
Just to nit pick the Sahara editions were actually 2 separate packages. The true Sahara package was from 97-02 and came with the special green and tan seats while the later 03-04 Sahara editions did away with the Sahara seats and killed off the best part of the Jeep
LJs were also produced in 2004. Great video 👊🏻
Thanks Parker!
The automatic transmission at 9:42 killed me
Where can I find links to buy your flairs and bumpers? I have an 04 TJ and love your Jeep build!
Proud 2006 tj owner
Great vid! Any security/alarm recommendations for TJ's ?
Thanks! I usually stay away from those. A hardtop and full doors is about as secure as a jeep can be
I have owned a 1997 TJ, since 2000.
I have broken everything on it, but one thing that have never given me any problem is the engine. Still running perfectly.
I would like to install new seats upgrades
Can you guide me to a link?
Thanks
Excellent video with the breakdown of the TJ models/trim packages. I recently sold my '13 JKR Call of Duty Modern Warfare edition and purchased an '04 LJ with auto. I love this Jeep. Been sinking money into it to make it as good off road as my JKR. The TJ will always be the best looking Jeep ever made - especially the Sahara edition in white/tan. Just sub'd. What size tires and wheels are you running on your TJ?
Thank you! They are 35x12.5x15 Tires With 15x10 Wheels
thanks for the info. it explains a lot for why the part I order don't fit. LOL everybody says 97 and up but what they really mean is 98 and up. of course I own a 97 tj but love it nonetheless.
No problem!
I have a 2003 TJ Sport 6 cylinder with a manual transmission, but it's still not clear to me if it's an X model or an X AT model
Awesome info! Where'd you get your gas can holder?
Thanks! LOD offroad
What’s the main difference between a 1997 and a 2002 both sport 4L 6cyl. (Saw the video on the 4L comparison and was sold) Narrowed my search to 2 cars at the moment. Both seem to have pretty solid frames and they are within 4K miles of each other 168,000 (02) and 172,000(97)Both in very similar condition. Any major differences that would cause it to go one way vs the other? Or just preference. Thanks
Hey man great video! Question I have the 60th anniversary Tj do you know if it was the Dana rear axel I was thinking about lifting it
Thank you! This will help czcams.com/video/Xib4EQV-mTo/video.html
I have a columbia edition. One of the decals is missing. Does anybody know where i might find one? Great video!
Great info man, I just picked up a 98 Jeep TJ and cant believe how much I am falling in love with it already. I did just post a video on my channel about it if your interested in having a look.
Thank you! very cool!
@@KyleSVT kind of ironic because I used to always watch your Mustang stuff and everytime you posted a Jeep video I used to skip over it LOL
What bumpers are you running the red jeep..I like the fact that the front one is not too obnoxious.
front is rugged ridge xhd and rear is LOD expedition
Thanks!
Great vid! I’m looking at buying a ‘99 TJ, is there a simple way to know what the trim level is or would I need the VIN? Thanks!
Thank you!. On the side of the front fender it should say sport or have a Sahara sticker or nothing (se)
Yeah I have a 2000 sahara tj green not all have the full steel doors mine came factory with the half doors and soft top
Love it. Are those wheels flat or gloss black?
Thanks! They are flat black
Cool 😎
What year was a/c standard for most models?
Huge Question! For the 2005 Sahara Edition Unlimited Rubicon, What axles front & rear did it bring?? Greatly appreciate any help on this!

Road to 7k
I recently sold my 48 foat fender and picked up a TJ. Cant see wheelin in anything bigger. A friend refers to JKUs as trail rated minivans.
Cool video!! Is there any website in which you can enter the VIN number and see all the options about the jeep?
Thanks! Yes

@@KyleSVT Thanks a lot! :) I knew it. My TJ has a rear Dana 35 but It originally was with a Dana 44. So.. somebody changed. When I bought it the car already was with the dana 35. I whish how difficult and expensive could be to install back a new Dana 44
Was lucky to find a mint 97 TJ 4.0l M with a Dana 44 in the rear
very nice
Hey how do I know if my 2001 TJ sport has a Dana 44 rear axle or the Dana 35? Just got the jeep the other day
czcams.com/video/Xib4EQV-mTo/video.html
Own 1998 / 12 mth 5 speed 👍🏻🇦🇺also brought new. 65 black TJ also brought a 1997 green sports when they first got to Australia 🇦🇺 . Owned many XJs an a FSJ 360 AMC T / Flight mint 1980 model . 👍🏻🇦🇺💯.
Thank you! 1 question - my 2005 Rubicon has Jeep-marked 17" wheels. Were they added before I got it?
Yea stock should be 16inch wheels on the rubicon. You probably have the JK rubicon wheels. Are there wheel spacer/adapters on it?
@@KyleSVT I don't know what to look for to answer those questions.
Great vid. Excellent info, but I have a 2003 Rocky Mountain TJ bought new in Vernon BC Canada and it's a lot different than your explanation.
So the diamond rock guard plates on the 2006 Jeep rubicons are from factory?
yes
Anyone got willys edition wheels mine had aftermarket wheels when i bought it but id rather have the factory wheels back on
What is the ultimate “TJ”? Would it be the 2005 & 6 Rubicon TJU with a 6 speed?
Probably a TJ Rubicon. But I do dig the 97-02 Sahara models (interior is cool)
In Australia every tj came with Dana 44 rear
My parents had a 2002 Sahara Jeep. It was automatic so that my sister and I could drive it.
What are the advantages of the 4.10 gears over the other gears? Faster??
more acceleration and torque. Helps with bigger tires
Good video. You did some homework here!
Thanks Todd
Of you had to do a transmittion replacement would you got witu tue 6 speed manual?
no probably stick with the 5spd. The 6spd from what ive read is a lot weaker
I'd go back to the ax 15
You forgot to mention the in cab sway bar disconnect rocker switch on Rubicons
On a TJ ? I had a 2005 Rubicon and not on it.
Not on TJ's. Have an '05 Unlimited Rubicon and no have. That disconnect came later.
