    Now we continue up the ladder through Seller Levels 2 &3! A lot more of the same, but you're building the systems that you need to use, both to continue growing your store after reaching Level 4, and to show TCGplayer that you won't be a liability for letting you get there. You need to source some inventory in all likelihood, and I give you some tools to do that. And you also need to seriously examine your processes and either work to improve them or decide it's not interesting to you to do so and find another business to grow.

    Hi Chase, first off, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience on how to sell with TCGPlayer. I just started selling and am on my way to level 3. Question for you: How do you keep track of inventory costs and Cost of Goods sold? Do you use a piece of software? I would appreciate it if you could point me in a direction you have found success with. Thank you!

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  Před 7 měsíci

      Hey there, congrats on getting started, that's the hardest part! For tracking costs, I just use a spreadsheet. I don't try to track the original inventory cost for each individual card, that would be an insane amount of upkeep, especially since most of the time that individual card cost is a fraction of a penny. I simply record the costs of buying collections on my spreadsheet, label the transaction as "inventory", and call it good.

      Unfortunately, I couldn't really begin to give you pointers on how to sell to a US buyer from outside the US. You might check in with @Alpha_Investments if it's a higher-end collection. Elsewise, the trouble is probably not worth it to sell from Saudi Arabia, you may wish to bring it to the US or else send it to someone who is in the US to sell for you domestically.

      Oof, that's tough, even I overlook them sometimes. And when I notice one, I get hypervigilant and think that little paintbrush is a planeswalker symbol lol. I tend to treat it as part of the alphabetizing step, just to make sure I'm not missing them. First step is set sorting, second step to alphabetize in the set, and since you're looking at that edge of the card, it's easier not to miss the symbol than when you're looking at the opposite edge for the set symbol.

      Congrats! Glad to see some success coming to ya! I do recommend a floor price. I don't sell below $.05, but that floor may be (and probably should be) higher for you until you achieve Lvl 4 status. Have a close look at your fees, what you can set prices at, and what your costs are to pick that floor, and be ready to lower it once you can change your shipping settings. Best of luck!

      If the demand isn't there, it may be wise to diversify to multiple games. That's not what I've said in the video at all 😂 I've shown how easy it is to break even by selling only a few cards from preconstructed decks, keeping all the leftover cards, and allowing you to progress up the seller levels quickly so that you can get to a place where you can sell all cards in a profit generating way

  • @skydriver5709
    @skydriver5709 Před rokem +1

    I'm lost on tcg as far as making profit on cards. When I look up what a specific card is selling for, it's typically an all inclusive price, factoring in shipping + card price. So lets say it's just a card worth $2.00. What I see sellers do is sell the card for $1.00 with the .99cent shipping. This means they're selling cards at 50% value, which is less than you'd get selling it to a physical store. Why do that? Why ruin the market?
    The .99 cent shipping (although it looks like it's for that specific card) is actually total shipping, so if a buyer buys 4 of those cards from you, they're only paying .99 cent shipping on the whole order, which means you're only going to get $4.00 + .99 cents for shipping, on $8.00 worth of cards. Am I just looking at it wrong or is TCG really that hurtful to low level sellers trying to get in the game? So far as it looks, I'm mostly going to be losing money trying to reach level 4.

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  Před rokem

      The stated value of a card does not include the shipping. So a card that's "worth" $2, as agreed on by the market, will not be on TCGplayer at $1+.99 shipping, it'll be closer to $2+ shipping. Because of combined orders, free shipping on orders over $5, and fees and things, that single card shipping rate is less meaningful than it seems. The agreed on price doesn't include the shipping charge, I promise. Sellers who are selling super cheap because they are separating the shipping cost out completely are shooting themselves in the foot.
      That's not too say ignore it completely. Maybe set your prices a little lower, but not $.99 lower. You are wanting to get to level 4 so you can set free shipping anyway, and there is a cost associated with shipping the cards that you would have to account for even if you were selling that card at full price.
      It's definitely not as simple or easy to get to level 4 as it ought to be, but it's not designed to just make everyone get ripped off, like some kind of hazing ritual. It's just a limiting factor to make sure the sellers are serious before they can do too much damage to the market

    • @skydriver5709
      @skydriver5709 Před rokem +1

      @@TCGBulkKings Sellers selling by incorporating the shipping cost in order to get their listing to the top, aren't just shooting themselves in the foot, they're shooting everyone and the market economy itself.
      I'm just finding it very difficult to compete with sellers at lvl 4, because they have the option to include shipping, and like you said, give free shipping on $5.00+ orders, which often can be just 1 card. So they can list cards at the right price, while me doing so automatically makes my card .99 cents more expensive. So I'm forced to undercut the market, and cheapen the selling value of said card to get it to sell. Unless I'm missing something, TCGplayer's rules on low level sellers is forcing market devaluation of cards. Thanks for replying by the way. It's just frustrating feeling like I'm probably going to have to discount my stock just to get sales until I hit level 4. Great for buyers, bad for me.

    • @TCGBulkKings
      @TCGBulkKings  Před rokem +1

      @@skydriver5709 I think the effect you're fearing isn't nearly as strong as you think it is. There is an extra risk involved in buying from a new seller - they may not be good at getting you the card. The only metric a new seller can compete on is price, that's true for any market. And also, new sellers are a drop in the bucket compared to the market at large, it's not like new sellers are even remotely the only ones successfully completing sales. You may make a bit less profit now, but you shouldn't have any problem making money if you're buying and selling correctly. Don't get disheartened.
