With all due respect, I think we fantasize about reason. I don't know of a time when humans where reason based creatures. I find the whole rarified reason an interesting religion in and of itself.

Aquinas christianised those greek philosophers and definitely didn't believe in pure reason. Reason has its place but most humans are emotion based animals. Reason has to be measured by ethics and metaphysics it is not the primary driver of any society. It is a fantastic tool no more no less.

It was perhaps a year or two ago that I first heard a challenge against the concept of the "trans-child". Probably on Gender a Wider Lens, or Kellie Jay Keen's YT channel. Looking back we've come a long way. Too soon to pat ourselves on the back, but it is becoming clear, the clarity and confidence of thought is now unstoppable.

I think a key take away from this talk is that the really compassionate thing to do would be to get psychological treatment for these people and not medicine or surgeries. Had society reckoned with the obvious societal contagion back in 2016, the child clinics would have been stopped. Before the social contagion, 80-90% of these kids desisted. AFTER the contagion, we can reasonably conclude 99.99% of these kids would have desisted. The sheer volume of these victims affects so many Americans. If you don’t have an ROGD kid or sibling, you know one in your social circle. Compared to allegedly 1 in 10,000 before.
Go back to 2008 for adult social contagion noticed in specifically lesbian communities and in universities. By 2015 SOGI formally opening the door for the ideology to begin being taught as fact in k-12 schools.
One point that Julie made in the chat was that puberty blockers have been used successfully since the nineties. That is true but they were originally used for precocious puberty which is quite a different thing from disphoria. For those kids who were experiencing puberty from premature age, say about 8 years old, it would delay their puberty until they were a more appropriate age (maybe 12 years) The success rate for treating actual disphoria with blockers is a little more questionable to say the least.

No, this is an over-correction. Clearly identity disorders do exist and pretending that identities don't exist won't make identity disorders go away. Step-one is recognising that "gender identity" was a rhetorical trick to de-pathologise "gender identity disorder" (which was re-listed as "gender dysphoria" (which before the re-listing was just one symptom within the broader diagnosis)). We don't pretend that personalities don't exist just because borderline personality disorder patients feel stigmatised by their diagnosed pathological personality. Identity shouldn't be more special than personality. Step-two would be recognising what is the best treatment for gender identity disorder. We know from DBT and radical self-acceptance that personality disorders can be managed or even brought to remission. And we're beginning to see the same sort of effectiveness for identity disorders. We should be advocating for psychic treatments for psychic disorders, not pretending that psychic (or psychological, if you prefer) phenomena don't exist. When Harry Benjamin got surgical and hormonal treatment past the ethics bodies, he was arguing at that time that a psychic cure didn't exist so a physical cure is the only option; that's not the case anymore. The key to curing gender identity disorders is not to surgically approximate the opposite sex, and it's not to pretend that sex has no bearing on identity, they key is teaching patients that our social responsibilities (including being a man or a woman) is more important than our personal desires (such as shirking those responsibilities). This key will be unpalatable to anyone who advocates desire over responsibility in any other area, but we could just as easily pretend that that area doesn't exist as this area does.

I'm in New Brunswick, Canada and my husband ruptured his achilles tendon on right leg and damaged some ligaments in his left knee, when he fell during our move here. He's been waiting 8 months so far with no MRI appointment date even, told he'd likely wait 2 or 3 years for knee reconstruction after MRI. Thankfully his achilles healed on it's own because he can't find a doctor here....there aren't any taking new patients. He was unable to work but had to go back as a heavy duty mechanic with his unstable knee because he couldn't get ANY financial assistance, so I was barely supporting both of us. How are these people getting fake wangs and boobies cut off, when we can't even get medically necessary surgery or see a doctor about basic health? It won't be any easier to get help with the bus loads of migrants arriving daily, that we're also giving full support.
1:19:59 My sister has said that she would have liked to have a car or two as toys growing up. But she would have imagined driving on holiday or exploring the garden or something along those lines. The thought of say, zooming the car to watch it flying down the stairs or crashing it into things or other cars would have been anathema to her. I've met a "glassman" irl, and it's so weird. He was actually kind of famous in the city by me, and was used as a warning for kids to not do Acid. Because most of the therapies are aimed primarily at making us more male typical to fit. These differences are what make us unique male outliers or the female sexual inverts outliers . When parents DO this and most do it causes PTSD ,CPTSD , BPD & other things. This conversation about trans healthcare, lobotomies, and medically unnecessary amputations reminds me of another medical scandal that happened in the early 20th century. In Benjamin and my own Washington state, there used to be a clinic (?) referred to as "Starvation Heights" in Olalla, WA, which is in the Kitsap county. This facility promised health benefits, and an overall better life if you fast from all food for an extended period of time. People would pay tons of money, sign over their estate, and travel from far away to get this new and exciting treatment. Ultimately, people died of starvation, and the owner of this facility made tons of money swindling people. It is a really haunting and tragic story, and it is surprising some of the parallels between transgender "care" and this fasting as a medical treatment "care." Particularly some of the way people were manipulated into doing this harmful treatment. The facility is now owned and operated by Olalla Bay Market.

I think a key take away from this talk is that the really compassionate thing to do would be to get psychological treatment for these people and not medicine or surgeries. The idea that teachers just accepted it out of nowhere ignores the intellectual priming that has been part of education for decades. That is true but they were originally used for precocious puberty which is quite a different thing from disphoria. For those kids who were experiencing puberty from premature age, say about 8 years old, it would delay their puberty until they were a more appropriate age (maybe 12 years)
The success rate for treating actual disphoria with blockers is a little more questionable to say the least.

No, this is an over-correction. Clearly identity disorders do exist and pretending that identities don't exist won't make identity disorders go away. Step-one is recognising that "gender identity" was a rhetorical trick to de-pathologise "gender identity disorder" (which was re-listed as "gender dysphoria" (which before the re-listing was just one symptom within the broader diagnosis)). We don't pretend that personalities don't exist just because borderline personality disorder patients feel stigmatised by their diagnosed pathological personality. Identity shouldn't be more special than personality. Step-two would be recognising what is the best treatment for gender identity disorder. We know from DBT and radical self-acceptance that personality disorders can be managed or even brought to remission. And we're beginning to see the same sort of effectiveness for identity disorders. We should be advocating for psychic treatments for psychic disorders, not pretending that psychic (or psychological, if you prefer) phenomena don't exist. When Harry Benjamin got surgical and hormonal treatment past the ethics bodies, he was arguing at that time that a psychic cure didn't exist so a physical cure is the only option; that's not the case anymore. The key to curing gender identity disorders is not to surgically approximate the opposite sex, and it's not to pretend that sex has no bearing on identity, they key is teaching patients that our social responsibilities (including being a man or a woman) is more important than our personal desires (such as shirking those responsibilities). This key will be unpalatable to anyone who advocates desire over responsibility in any other area, but we could just as easily pretend that that area doesn't exist as this area does.

I'm in New Brunswick, Canada and my husband ruptured his achilles tendon on right leg and damaged some ligaments in his left knee, when he fell during our move here.
He's been waiting 8 months so far with no MRI appointment date even, told he'd likely wait 2 or 3 years for knee reconstruction after MRI. Thankfully his achilles healed on it's own because he can't find a doctor here....there aren't any taking new patients. He was unable to work but had to go back as a heavy duty mechanic with his unstable knee because he couldn't get ANY financial assistance, so I was barely supporting both of us.
How are these people getting fake wangs and boobies cut off, when we can't even get medically necessary surgery or see a doctor about basic health? It won't be any easier to get help with the bus loads of migrants arriving daily, that we're also giving full support.

Right. They just heard the words conversion therapy and slapped a label on it that is actually unrelated to the discussion.
Could we have a podcast (or does anyone have a list or website) which mentions the studies and medical professionals which are critical of affirmative care??
Additionally how do we find out if Trans activists are on medical boards?
It would be nice to have a place where were we can get that info so we can discuss it with people of having opposing views.
I've met a "glassman" irl, and it's so weird. He was actually kind of famous in the city by me, and was used as a warning for kids to not do Acid. He thought he was a glass of orange juice, and if you touched him he's spill orange juice everywhere. Funnily enough, though, no one tried to replace his skin with glass and replace his blood with 100% oj so that his brain and reality were one and the same.

Because most of the therapies are aimed primarily at making us more male typical to fit. These differences are what make us unique male outliers or the female sexual inverts outliers . When parents DO this and most do it causes PTSD ,CPTSD , BPD & other things. Gay men don't care in fact they support this therapy & do it because we will still be "same sex attracted " and THAT is all they care about . They are not US as a group.

Just pulled up the episode and see the CZcams notice regarding conversion therapy.
I’m guessing the similarities between conversion and transitioning are touched upon here which caused the notice to be automatically placed. The irony.

This conversation about trans healthcare, lobotomies, and medically unnecessary amputations reminds me of another medical scandal that happened in the early 20th century. In Benjamin and my own Washington state, there used to be a clinic (?) referred to as "Starvation Heights" in Olalla, WA, which is in the Kitsap county. This facility promised health benefits, and an overall better life if you fast from all food for an extended period of time. People would pay tons of money, sign over their estate, and travel from far away to get this new and exciting treatment.
Ultimately, people died of starvation, and the owner of this facility made tons of money swindling people.
It is a really haunting and tragic story, and it is surprising some of the parallels between transgender "care" and this fasting as a medical treatment "care." Particularly some of the way people were manipulated into doing this harmful treatment.
The facility is now owned and operated by Olalla Bay Market.
