Hello Mark! What a great tour you gave us! I feel like I've been to France LOL! I must say that I've never seen Bread in a vending machine before! You certainly enjoyed many different tobaccos while on vacation. The HU Blends look good in the tin. Hope you had a safe trip back home, and we'll look forward to seeing you and Joshua next week! Hello Mike, my friend!
...yeah...I also never saw one of these "bread storages" myself...but it makes sense, if you consider, that the french eat mainly white bread...and you normally buy it very fresh...means at least once a day. And this bakery is just open until midday...
I think, the HU tobaccos would definitely be something for you. I tried mainly the "stronger stuff" with burley...but there are so many good virginias...
Joshua and me, we`ll try to get together on wednesday...lets see...
Thanks a lot, for taking the (long) time, Mike! And take care!

    Hello Mark!
Thx a lot for the different video footage! Never been to Metz, and for sure if I ever go, the cathedral is to visit. I am a big fan of "vitrail" glass works. This cathedral seems to have very lovely ones! The thing that is too bad, is that they are often to dirty and the story the want to express are difficult to clearly see!
Those HU tobacco look very interesting... Too bad we can't have any on this side of the ocean... well, we can't have everything! :-)

I am happy that you two will be able to meet Joshua, even if it is for a little while. For myself, just the fact of being able to enjoy a pipe with another pipesmoker, it is something that I miss. My brother is the one who initiated me to pipe smoking, but we live 5 hrs away by car, and even when we meet, we often do not take the time to enjoy a pipe together!
I do not know when we will go back to Europe because of the airfare, the exchange rate (Can$ to Euros), but... really looking forward going back to visit "the old countries".
Take care and Be well my friend!

A fascinating video Mark. Thanks so much for putting it together for us. Perfect viewing on a rainy and stormy Easter holiday Monday here in the UK! A very interesting range of tobacco's. I am tempted by the Nashville County and might give that a try. I am smoking for the first time some Solani 'White and Black' which is very good - virginia, cavendish and a touch of latakia - have you tried that one?

Mark, I just forwarded the video of your hiatus in Metz to my sister and her husband Van. They are going on a trip to London and Paris but I hope they include a visit to Metz. Your travel log was wonderful and filled with truly amazing photography. The Medieval era is so intriguing and we hope to someday return to Europe to visit more of is historical sites on a more leisurely schedule.
Thank you for so graciously including those of us who so enjoy your pipe and tobacco reviews throughout Europe. By the way, I hope to find some HU Tobaccos in the USA, and since our last name is Flanagan, you can imagine what variety I want to include in an order for some of their fine sounding blends.
Looking forward to more of your videos,

I hope, your sister and her husband have a wonderful time in Europe! If they have some time in Paris, they should try to get to Chartres (its just one hour from Paris)...the Cathedral of Chartres is perhaps the most important (and impressive!) Cathedral of the middle ages...and the hole scenery is impressive...
I hope, you can get some HU tobaccos...they are worth a shot! If you just can`t get the "Flanagan"...write me a PM...

Hello Mark: Fantastic video!!! Thanks for taking us along on your vacation. The Cathedral at Metz was amazing. I'm just surprised that there were so few people there. After all, I think it was Palm Sunday when you visited, right? I think that this is a big difference between Europe (maybe France, in particular), and America. The churches here in the U.S. still attract many of the faithful. If not every Sunday, certainly Palm or Easter Sundays. I have been enjoying the HU "Nashville County" these past few weeks. Very good stuff. I pick up flavors of anise, coffee, and what reminds me of the "char" on a broiled steak. Take Care, Mark, and Happy Easter to you. Ed

      Hello Ed, my friend!
Thanks a lot for taking the time - especially on an easter sunday!
...well...religiousness is quite differentiated here...you are right about France, but even there, you have some very active communitys ... not to talk about Italy or the parts of Europe, Bush jr. used to call the "New Europe"...
I absolutely agree on the Nashville...that tobacco has become one of my favorites and was the first tin, I finished ... :-) Could even replace my beloved "Scottish cake" - which is very similar...

Took me a lot more research, than I thought....had to order other german stuff, to compare... asked friends from the US, to send me stuff...made a lot of "blind-testing"...wrote to producers... etc...LOL...but now, I'm close, to shoot the video...hang in!
And many thanks for watching and kind words! As always so much appreciated!
      Take care, my friend!

Fantastic video. The tobaccos, the footage of Mets, lovely. The cathedral was stunning. Do your trips focus on medieval parts of the villages you visit? Always a treat to see where you are going - I also check Google Earth to get a sense of the place and where these towns and cities are. And good to see you took plenty of tobacco with you to France this time. :-) Cheers!

...LOL...yeah, I carried an extra bag with tobacco with me, this time... :-) I watched out for tobacco stores - although, I should know better - but there was nothing of interest...
And...yes, I like to search for medieval buildings and places...but I`m also interested in ancient and early modern sites...
Thanks a lot for watching - and take care!

Looks like a great vacation. I've always wanted to visit France but lately with all the terror attacks I've become a bit apprehensive. I suppose it's okay in the countryside. That tobacco looks very interesting. I'll have to try some. Take care my friend.

Hello Mark. I have recently run a CZcams channel about pipes. Looking for information on HU Tobacco, I wrote to Hans Wiedemann. I asked Hans what HU stands for. Hans wrote back that HU stands for Handblended Unique, HU for short 😉

My friend, another beautiful video! Those flakes look amazing! I wonder if that Bahia name is a mention to the Brazilian state that carries the same name. You got me really curious about that Tilerman! Im trying to find if someone brigs HU to the States.
By the way, are you interested in cigars? Because we all know you love pipes and pipe tobacco! Lol!
    take care, brother!
    all the best

      Hello, my friend!
...I think, you should give the Bahia a shot...maybe something, thats coming your way (and should be quite near now..) will help you with that...LOL
There was a time, when I was into cigars too...especially the "Bahia do Brasil" from John Aylesbury...LOL (really!)..
Thanks for watching - and take care, my friend!

...no, unfortunately just a hand full of shops sell em....but...they have a great (and very quick) service....so, if you stay in a hotel for some days, you can do an order on their homepage, and it will usually arrive witin two days...

That is unfortunate. Like you I enjoy Virginia/Dark Fired Kentucky blends. Are there any blends that I can only find in Germany you would recommend I keep an eye out for? Thanks for your time Mark.

...leaving the HU tobaccos aside...(they have the best Kentucky stuff here...) I would like to recommend the Robert McConnel Scottis Cake (not...the scottish "flake"...thats a Virginia..)...thats my favorite (its near to the HU Nashville) and...give the Rattrays Stirling flake a shot...and if you got the chance for a solani silver flake...take it!
If you stay for some days...you can visit a good (!) shop...and place an order...they are normally pretty fast with that...
Hope, that was of some help...
      Take care! And be well!

Hi Mark, what a great video from France and what at lovely cottage! Thanks for the HU-Reviews. It sounds very special and I heard a lot about these tobaccos on all the CZcams-Channels in Germany. Unfortunately, it is not possible to pay with Creditcard at the HU-Onlineshop and a bank payment order costs me about EUR 20. Thus, I will have a look at other Online Shops for the HU-tobaccos. Have a good time and thanks a lot for this interesting video. I like it very much! Greetings from Zurich, Armin

      Hello Armin!
....ahhh...interesting, to hear that...surprising to me... Did you try, to contact the "Bosch tobacco shop", who is the main distributor?...these people are very kind and helpful...maybe they`ll find a way... These tobaccos are really worth some efforts...I just got the second charge...another good stuff!
Many thanks for taking the time - and good words!
      My greetings to Zürich!
