- In this video Prof Barlis reviews a frequently performed test used to take xray images of the arteries around the heart. These arteries, known as the coronary arteries, deliver blood, oxygen and nurients to the heart muscle itself so it can keep pumping and supplying the entire body with the nutrients it needs. The angiogram allows visualisation of the inside of the arteries and can detect narrowings or blockages that may develop due to cholesterol plaque build up. Remember, in any emergency, please contact your local emergency services number and all information discussed is purely general in nature and for educational putposes only. For specific information relevant to your condition please consult your local health care professional.
Just got home a couple of hours ago from this procedure. Everyone was as this good doctor described it. Spot on, sir. They didn’t find any major blockage; only that I was born with my right artery coming in on the left, thereby making blood travel a wee bit longer.
I desire positive results for all of you that may be going through the same precedence. ❤❤❤
Thank you doctor. I can imagine many people whom you have saved lives and extended their lives to have more time to enjoy life.
I appreciate your professional skills and kindness sharing the video with kindness and respect
This doctor is a good
Grateful to be able to watch this video. Informative and reassuring at the same time. Makes me feel more confident prior to my angiogram with Prof Barlis in a few days time. We’re so lucky in this day and age to have such procedures available to us.
Thank you very much for the video with kindness and respect for excellent explaining and kindness
So very informative. Thank you!
Very informative 🙏🏼 THANK YOU
Very informative. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you for the information 🙏
Thank you for all you do. Your posts are educational & informative. I'm continually amazed & thankful by advances made in medical tech. My experience of 3 x stents along 99% blockage in RCA via angiogram/plasty was successful & the procedure was well tolerated.
Thank you Catherine for sharing your experience with us!
Thanks for a very informative video. I had this procedure about Two weeks ago.. Dr. placed a stent and put me on a blood thinner.
Excellent presentation Dr.
Thank you for the understanding. I have been checking out heart issues because of my husband, he had a triple bypass and never had any pain that led to a problem. He also worked out, 250 pushups 3 days before the crisis. I have talked with several people that have taken medications for these problems, and all of them are regretting even starting the medication. The side effects are worse than the problem itself. The cholesterol medication does not take out the extra from your body but stops making it. This is a great problem for the rest of the body that needs it, like the brain and building muscle from tearing it down when working out. I know a man whose mind went because of that reason. People want other things instead os statin drugs.
High cholesterol is not actually what causes the atherosclerosis.
I thanked you profusely for this information, you have done a superb excellent job in explaining the procedures. I greatly thank you thank you
Love that painting behind your head ❤
Brilliant information thank you 🙏
Thank you Dr. Clear explanation and understandable.
Thank you for useful information
I don't know if this is a good idea. But even though I don't have any symptoms, I'm ready to go straight to the catherization and bypass the stress tests and calcium scans just to see how my arteries are. My mom sadly died of complications from bypass surgery the week before Christmas and I'm just ready to get to the bottom of things!
Dr. can u pls. explain how bulb replacement is done. Its one of the common heart procedure done.Thank you for enlightenment. More power .Hope there are more doctors like you!
Thx.
Guess we can face issues at any age for the last 4 years I have suffered with chest pain, pain up neck, and down left arm. Lots of ECG test at Emergency Rooms, but it never went any further. Now at 42 years old I almost passed out after intimacy with my wife. Primary Care Physician sent me to the Cardiologist. Cardiologist had me do a stress test today which didn't go well. Severe heaviness like an elephant sitting on my chest and had severe chest pain. Cardiologist called me back about an hour later. Having an angiogram done Wednesday.
How did it go? So past visits at the er they didn’t see anything?
Are you alright ?
Did you have any Cholesterol tests done?
How did the test come out? Any blockages?
Did you the the vaccines?
My husband found out that during the bypass an artery is supposed to be clipped twice and they only did it once, The artery never developed, got 90% blocked, found it in time, and had a stint put in, but I believe the damage has already been done.
Great video, which coronary artery is most likely to block, had a stent placement in the LAD, also told to really go on strict diet to help further blockages, during the procedure, i found unlike most people i found fierce pressure in my chest, even my right leg was reflex kicking as in the movies 🙂 .
This didn't last too long out of the whole procedure, but still interesting.
intense chest pain can definitely occur and is usually short lived when a stent is placed int he artery. As we deploy the stent, we momentarily block the artery completely to dilate the balloon and stretch the stent inside the artery so this can cause chest pain. Thanks for sharing your feedback.
Would love to hear your thoughts about non-emergent positive stress tests as they relate to the COURAGE and ISCHEMIA studies.
This gives me PTSD, I've had two heart attacks and a bypass but this procedure has never gone well both times.
Can you have an angiogram of the aortic vessel and do the legs at the same time using the wrist for both procedures
Thank you - I viewed this before my Angiogram this past Monday and it helped me understand what to expect. Unfortunately, the I/R was not able to get a catheter to the left side of my heart. He started on the right wrist, was able to get to the right side of the heart and confirmed no obstructions. He tried several catheter sizes to get to my left side with no success. He moved to my left wrist tried several different catheters again with no success. Moved to my groin, again tried several sizes and could not get there. called another I/R into the room and he couldn't do it either. They stopped the procedure without ever getting to the left side. Not sure why they couldn't and what the nest steps are as I am still waiting for someone to return my calls. If anyone knows why they wouldn't be able to get to the left side I would appreciate any "expert" opinions.
Thank you again
Doctor, I had this test in Canada. The pain during the entire test was extreme. I was given Fentanyl for pain halfway through the test, which had no effect at all. After the test, I asked the doctor why it was so painful. He said the catheter was the same size as the artery. My arteries were in excellent condition, but I needed aortic valve replaced laterbon. I heard other patients who experienced the horrific pain as wel!, and they told nurses about it. I will need this test again in the future and I'm already stressed about it. Any advice for a pain test as you described?
Help me to understand my heart attack and the use of a stent to open my artery

Did you ever find out if you should take it or not
My husband had a heart attack yesterday morning and had this done today. How can I help him through all of this?
I had a stent inserted in of my artery in 2018, after 4 years,I started breathing heavily if I walk even for 5 to 6 meters,my BP without taking any pill will on average 130/70 ,130/65 ,132/68 up till now, in December I did another angiography, and doctor said no blocked artery, I can walk for 15 minutes and rest , and after 2 minutes I am breathing normally you will don't know I am breathing.i am not diabetic,my liver, my kidneys are ok for a 68 years old, recently both my ankles are filled with liquid,so I was given direrutic pills at 1 stage I was 3 40g diuretic pills daily, and will urinating 20 to 20 something a day.now my doctor advised to use only 1 diuretic pill daily, also I take 20g simvastatim pill daily, and my blood tests shows my cholesterol level are normal or a shadow below minimum, so is my triglycerides level are normal, so my question to you why I breath heavily after walking 5 to six meters.
Hi doctor ,I was told last week I have a 60% blockage ,I asked should I get a stent ,they said not serious enough, what do you think ,I had a heart attack 7 weeks ago and 1 stent put in
I was told the blockage had to be 90% or higher before a stent would go in
@@hollyfowler4275 pretty crazy eh
There are various reasons to put a stent or not to put a stent. Usually we say that if a blockage on the angiogram is more than 70% blocked then a stent may be considered but there are other tests e.g. pressure wire we can use to better inform us whether a stent is needed.

Interesting about going in through the radial artery versus the femoral. I’m only looking this up because someone I know was recently admitted to the ER for a heart attack and they performed one of these. He expressed a lot of embarrassment over having female nurses shaving his pubic hair. 😂

Hello, I had a stent placed in my LAD in 2017. My cardiologist just posted a note from that procedure on 05/24/2023?? It states,
Note that we had to take special care to position the stent just distal to the diagonal and we used the technique of doing a low level inflation to put a little drag on the stent since it was moving to and fro and there was the interesting observation of mild balloon dilation at the end of the stent which would very well define the border of the stent itself. This was an interesting effect that I had never thought about or observed before. In addition, the Onyx is designed to be more radiopaque and this helped as well. What does he mean by mild balloon dilation at the end of the stent?? Also, he made me wait 32hrs before he would do the stent because I chose to go to a hospital that has interventional cath lab vs a hospital that only did diagnostic angiograms. He has privledges at both hospitals. He was angry, even called me on the nurses phone in the ED to threaten me!!
hi doctor
I have CAD3 but I don't want bypass
can I still have stenting???
I've been told yes ive changed diet and lifestyle already 2 months
please can you kindly advise sir
