Great Review Dave! Thank you for comparing and including a product that compliments the one under review! I wish more reviewers would do this. I don't want to buy something that sounds just like something I already own! 👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful! You are welcome, my pleasure.
GO BILLS! Way to represent, Dave. Good review, too!
Go Bills!!!
Super review!
This dac is cheap, I might get it, I also bought the salnotes zeros, any other recommendations sir? Within that price range of 20dollars?
A little late night audiophile fun 😊
I’m gonna get one, wanted to try an AKM DAC and see what the fuss is about. Will feed it into a NX7 for my P1 Max, so a natural leaning DAC should fit great in that chain.
Awesome 👍 Sounds like a great idea. Look forward to hearing your impressions.
@@TheHonestAudiophile thank you! I received the P1 Max yesterday and I’m really impressed so far. It’s gonna replace my Blessing 2. Does the same job (neutral, relaxed set), but has a more pleasant tuning and better technical performance for 1/3rd the price.
Anyone want a Blessing 2? 😜
@@SzymonSaysStuff seriously? It's bether than
hello, can someone help me? why the mic from my earphone doesnt work when i plugged the dac to my pc? is usb converter causing it?
I know you said these may not power planars all that well, but the P1 Max seems really sensitive to me, easiest to drive thing I own and I power it off my galaxy s8 as of now. But I am about to get a phone without a 3.5mm and I was looking for something reasonably priced but competent for the P1 Max and this seems quite good for the money so I question now if it is good enough based on what you said.
I prefer the Hiby FC4 with the P1 Max. The 71 will get the P1 Max loud but it seems to lack sonically to my ears. Planar are picky when it comes output power imho.
One added to my cart!
Awesome 👍😎
I had been planning on ordering the rhodium but now I'm questioning if I should get this instead or even both.
If the funds are available I'd get both as they compliment each other well.
Will this be enough to drive the Hifiman Sundara? I dont want to spend a lot on dac/amp to drive the headphones.
No the Sundara won't be powered accurately, it may get loud but will not sound it's best as it will 9n more powerful amps.
Have you heard Ikko Zerda itm02? How does it compare to 7hz 71?
I heard, although same AKM chip inside, they sound different.
Sorry haven't heard the iKKo Zerda ITM02
Hi dave!
I'm from Bangladesh.
Currently I'm using olina se.
Can you please tell me how much power does olina se need to drive?
Sorry, I've not heard the Olina SE.
Does it have enough power to maximize the potential of iem like moondrop aria/kato?
Yeah it plays well with those products.
Mine sounds ok although I prefer the Rohdium. Only issue is mine heats up to a concerning temperature during use which I think also drains battery in my phone. Anyone else had this issue?
It does heat up a bit with longer sessions. I also prefer the Rhodium but the 71 has a nice warmth to it that is enjoyable. 8ve not noticed battery usage varying between dongles much.
new to this hobby, how do you think this dongle would perform when paired with my moondrop SSR? Or are there any other recommendations you could list off the top of your head for dongles ranging from $30 - $40? Thanks in advance!
The 7hz 71 would pair very well with the Moondrop SSR. I also recommend the Periodic Audio Rhodium.
@@TheHonestAudiophile how about moondrop click? Gotta say I was pretty close to purchasing that until I found your video on 7Hz 71 😆 really at an impasse to decide on which one to take home
Sorry haven't heard the Moondrop Click.
How would these dongles sound threw my car's aux port to the phone? Would I notice any improvements
I'm sorry I'm confused. Are you asking if you can play music on your phone, output through the dongle into the auxiliary input of your car stereo? Yes you can if you want to use up your data streaming. I don't know if it would improve your sound or not as I haven't heard your car stereo.
Would you recommend these or the Hibby FC4 / Fiio KA3 ?
Haven't heard the KA3. The FC4 has way more power and is more neutral and better detailed and resolving.
How about the noise floor? As we know, IEM earphones have noise floor problem (due to their high sensitivity). Does this DAC reduces the noise floor?
If I had noticed any issue I would have mentioned it in the video. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@TheHonestAudiophile my question was does it reduces the noise floor or not , compared to directly connect the iem to phone. It is not an issue for some people. But for me, it is an issue. But well ok, thanks for your "very nice and polite" answer. Ain't gonna subscribe
I don't understand what you mean by reducing the noise floor. I don't have any issues with impedance causing there to be hissing or distortion when playing sensitive IEM. I can't connect directly to my phone as it doesn't have a headphone jack.
If you appreciate the "very nice and polite" answer, why not subscribe?
Does it have volume control? I want to increase the volume steps of my phone..
If it did, I would've mentioned it in the video.
Good review. Can't see putting out any money for the 71 since I have the Periodic and the HiBy FC4. BTW, how about my Phillies and Eagles? Yeaaaaaaaa!!!!⚾🏈
Totally understand, stick with your Rhodium and FC4. Good year for Philly sports, now if only the Flyers and 76ers could give you something to cheer about.
@@TheHonestAudiophile That may be a long time coming. Hope you are well.❤
@@herb601 I'm doing well. Hope the same for you.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Still breathing! Just had another one on the 11th. They seem to roll around every 3 months now. Don't get old!!!🤭
Sorry to hear that. Keep on smiling and enjoying the music, it helps the tough days go by easier.
can i use it in my pc as a dac for Philips shp 9500?
I've no experience with the SHP9500 so I can't confirm that it's a good pairing or not
nice review, i´m just wondering is it powerful enough to run Folca Elear?
I wouldn't think so. BUT I haven't heard the Elear. The 71 is pretty weak with power output and struggles with over ear headphones.
@@TheHonestAudiophile any portable recommendation to run focal's? Thanks for the reply!
Topping NX7
Hey, very nice review, I am currently planning to buy Beyerdynamic dt770 pro 32 ohms, would this dac be able to drive them well?
7hz 71 isn't very powerful and I don't think it will be the most optimal for the DT770 Pro but it should get it to volume. I recommend something with a bit more power.
@@TheHonestAudiophile ok, can you suggest some DACS which would be optimal? I am looking for something portable enough to use it with my phone, and something not too expensive. I was also looking at fiio KA3 and I'd prefer a bit warmer or neutral sound signature as beyerdynamic is known for their accentuated highs, It will be very helpful if you can give your thoughts on it.
@@dhammilshah269 I've not heard the Fiio KA3.
I recommend the Hiby FC4, AudioEngine DAC 3, Hidizs XO.
@@TheHonestAudiophile ok, much appreciated, thank you so much.
My pleasure, you're welcome
7hz is new to me, but man I hear nothing but good things. Is the concensus that they are a quality company?
Yes, they're a good company with quality products from my personal experience.
I'm currently using 7hz salnotes zero and never used a dac, should i get this for my iem? Please tell me
Yes, I think you should get it as it should improve the audio quality within reasonable expectations.
Thanks for replying
My pleasure, you're welcome.
do you try cyberdrive feather sir?
how's the comparison with 7hz 71??
Cyberdrive Feather? Never heard of it.
@@TheHonestAudiophile hmm i see cuz that's old dongle
but i still prefer feather than avani/abigail cuz feather have more power and neutral tonality
I am using truthear zero x crinacle.
Wanted to buy a dac in budget.
How it will be sound like? If i pair 7hz dac with Truthear zero?
For competitive pc gaming, i need clarity, good sound separation, good imagine, wide soundstage
Here is a link to my Truthears Zero review: czcams.com/video/1u86zDy9m54/video.html
@@TheHonestAudiophile periodic audio rhodium is not available in m country
That's a bummer. 7hz 71 is a solid budget dongle.
@@TheHonestAudiophile 😔
I’m on a budget, in my country both the 7hz 71 and the periodic rhodium are at the same price. If I had to choose one, which one should I get?
I prefer the Rhodium but the 71 is a close second.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Do the periodic rhodium or 7hz 71 handle flac files well? I’m new in this hobby and wanna buy a portable dac to use it with my truthear zero and salnotes zero.
Both handle FLAC well.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thanks man!
My pleasure, you're welcome
what about going phone to dac to a amp?
Yes you can use a dongle as a DAC into an amplifier.
hi Dave, recently got to your channel , is it better than Apple type c dongle?
I'm not an Apple IOS user. The only experience I had with the Aplle dongle was with my Samsung Note 10 and it sounded like absolute rubbish. So in my experience yes it would sound better but I've not heard the Apple dongle in about 2 years and I haven't heard it with an Apple device.
@@TheHonestAudiophile i bought it 71hz , so low end is better here and apple dongle is loud and harsh , 71 sounds pleasant, thanks 🙏
@@michealclarke22 Awesomeness 👍 Glad you enjoy the 71. Thank you for the impressions.
@@TheHonestAudiophile one last quick question why does music sounds very louder in my one plus 7 with hibyMusic compare to my pc using foobar/musicbee
I am sorry, I don't know the answer to your question.
Which mini dac is best suited for the 7hz Timeless with my Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5 please, seems odd this is not enough for them, i want bass, need a fast answer from anybody thanks ✌
I like the Hiby FC4 and FC3 with the Timeless. The 71 is decent but doesn't drive them to their full potential in my opinion.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thank you for the speedy reply, ive already ordered both, but i didnt choose the HiBy 4 because i want the smallest form factor and budget, ive actually just bought 7 different dacs to see how they perform 😆
Is it just better to have a dedicated music source for on the go, are there any you can recommend? I dont want to be carrying a phone and a personal music player in all honesty, i had a SanDisk clip mini for a while lol
For portable on the go, phone and dongle is easier. DAP can give better performance but you lose the phone capabilities. I mostly use dongles when on the go. For long trips, office and stuff I'll use a DAP.
@@TheHonestAudiophile First time using these dongle dacs, i hope it will serve me well, thanks again for the advise, much appreciated 👍
@@iDTecKt My pleasure, you're welcome. Look forward to hearing your thoughts about them.
This or Sound Blaster Play 4! Which are ur recommended?
Sorry haven't heard SoundBlaster Play 4
@@TheHonestAudiophileOwh i see
@@TheHonestAudiophile Can i use this 7hz on my pc? And how bout software for my windows 10?
It will work with your PC.
¿Do you consider that it is not compared to dawn in terms of naturalness of timbre? ¿And if it is not at her level, do you think that the difference is great?
Dawn has way more power. As for sonics, both have good tone and timbre but the Dawn edges it out like the Rhodium in being slightly more natural.
@@TheHonestAudiophile i forgot it ask on whether moondrop dawn filters make even more of a difference
Moondrop Dawn doesn't have filters, I have no idea what you're asking.
Can it take calls if necessary?
I believe so but I don't recall using it for phone call purposes.
Do you feel warm or Hot when you using 15 minutes and Pair with smartphone 🤔 ?
I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary from any other dongles.
What is the maximum ohms headphones does it support?
I don't know the official number but it only has 70mw @ 32ohms so it isn't the most powerful dongle available.
@@TheHonestAudiophile can it drive my ATH M40X 35 ohms?
@@Rajesh_0190 I think it could do that.
@@Rajesh_0190 Bro, did you get a chance to check this with your 35 ohm headphone? I want to use this along with my 32 ohm headphone.
Will this dac amp drain my smartphone's battery?
No more than any other USB c dongle DAC/amp. They all use up phone battery life.
@@TheHonestAudiophile thank you
@@louiebanal6421 my pleasure, you're welcome.
Does it work with Samsung galaxy S20FE 5g ?
It should work with any USB-C Android device.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Great, thank you 👍
My pleasure, you're welcome
I have this on the way! Haha it’s the right price for what I’m needing it for.
Cool. Look forward to hearing your impressions.
Will it improve Legato's sound?
It's possible, depends on what you use as a source.
@@TheHonestAudiophile I usually just play music on my phone. Should I get a better DAC in that case?
A USB dongle should be an improvement over a phone. Most phones don't have quality DAC and Amp.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thank you very much for helping me decide.
WinAmp my pleasure, you're welcome. Look forward to hearing your impressions.
Compared to dawn?
Dawn is 4.4mm balanced and has about 3x the power. Sonically the Dawn is closer to the Rhodium.
@@TheHonestAudiophile thanks for the reply
My pleasure, you're welcome.
👍
Can this power my Sennheiser hd599?
I doubt it. I don't have a HD599 available to test but it isn't very powerful. It's output is 70mw @ 32ohms.
@@TheHonestAudiophile how much power output should i look for?
I would look for something around 100db or higher.
@@TheHonestAudiophile 100db means
Read the specs for output power
Great dongle although too cold and bright for my taste
Thanks for the impressions. Very interesting, i don't find the 71 to be bright or cold.
Plz explain..its blu and red light .. and warm issue❤
You're wearing a hat 🧐
You are wearing a hat. 🤔
What is the logo on the hat?
Buffalo Bills 🦬
cant help but feel they could cut the price by $5 with a more simple packaging.
is this good for 7hz zero? or the Periodic Audio Rhodium is the best ?
IT will drive the 7hz Zero well.
