7hz 71 Dongle. Should you just buy an Apple USB-C to 3.5MM Adapter?

    Great information coverage. New to dac stuff cuz always just assumed the apple dongle was more than enough but the Qudelix sounds like it has hella value when I do consider getting one down the line.

    i was a long time apple dongle user here is what i noticed : when output power is over 130mW (es100 or btr5 on their bal output), i hear more bass on s12(planar) and olina(DD) compared to apple dongle (but no difference in bass with heart mirror(DD) so the benefit of having more power than an apple dongle seems to depend on the iem. i want to stress out that it is not about loudness which is enough even with apple dongle on all my iems but about more/deeper bass, if i want to reach the same level of bass on apple dongle, mids and trebble gets too loud).

    • @hackinghifi4247
      @hackinghifi4247  Před rokem

      I agree. I do think some of that has to do with the way it’s tuned as well it’s very crispy and clean but not bass heavy.

    • @amanieux
      @amanieux Před rokem +2

      @@hackinghifi4247 i don't think it is about apple dongle being tuned with bass light signature because i get similar bass light sound on the es100 se output ( 31mW@32 ohms). don't you hear such a bass difference on s12 when you switch the output power of quedelix 5k from normal(1v) to high(2v) on the 3.5mm SE output (lowering volume when in "high" to match loudness with the "normal" out put power)?

    I had a Apple dongle type c EU version. It was very bad. Produced less power than my phone's headphone jack. Does not change sound quality at all. On the other hand I have 7hz 72 dongle which improves sound quality and give more power

    The ability to play higher resolution files than the Apple dongle, including DSD, is the main draw for me. The Apple dongle sounds fine for 48kHZ and below, though.

    • @hackinghifi4247
      @hackinghifi4247  Před rokem

      That’s a good point. I don’t play the higher resolution files and don’t hear much difference between flac files and standard high settings for streaming. But I can see if that was my thing how it would be nice to have.

      @@hackinghifi4247 Great! Once it's installed plug in the dac, it will ask you for permission to use the dac and press Yes. Once in the app press on the physical volume up button on the device and then raise the master volume up to its max. Leave the app and listen to your music from any app with the boost in volume.

    Can anyone tell me whether 7Hz 71 is actually better than a internal dac of a budget smartphone? Or will it be just a waste of money? I really want to expirience my music better, but kinda overwhelmed by the amount of factors I need to consider.

    • @mkhilario
      @mkhilario Před rokem +1

      Yes IMO. It has an AK chip which to my ear produces a more natural and analog-ish sound quality vs the cheaper dongles.

    Im just curious ive been using a 3.5mm to usbc dongle for my audio. But i hear static. How do i fix that? Would a usbc to 4.4mm dongle work? Or do i need to buy a quelix. Im not sure what to do man

    • @hackinghifi4247
      @hackinghifi4247  Před rokem +1

      Sorry this comment just popped up now for some reason. First step is narrowing down the problem. Test your headphones on another piece of equipment. Borrow someone’s phone if need be. See if you’re still hearing static. If not you know it’s not the headphones. At that point try a different source on what I assume is your laptop. You can also buy a simple usb c to 3.5mm adapter from apple for $10 and see if that fixes the issue. Convert it to usb a if need be Amazon sells adapters for those as well.
