1) Conductor
A conductor is an object or type of material that allows the flow of charge in one or more directions. Materials made of metal are common electrical conductors. Mostly we are using copper and aluminum conductor which is described in IEC60228.
2) Conductor screen
The purpose of the screen is to reduce the voltage gradient (electric stress ) at the surface of the conductor where it interfaces with the insulation.
3) Insulation
Cable and wire insulation prevents the insulated wire's current from coming into contact with other conductors. It preserves the wire material against environmental threats and resists electrical leakage.
PVC and XLPE insulation we are preferred mostly underground cables.
4) Insulation/Semiconductor Screen:
The insulation screen is important in three core cables because it prevents the inter-core electric stressing that would occur if the screen were not present. It maintains a radial stress pattern in each core, which is independent of the other cores.
5) Inner Sheath:
An inner sheath , usually made of extruded polymer is used to cover the insulation screen, and to fill in the interstices between the core of the multi-core cable.
This is mainly used for 2 reasons:-
A) Firstly to ensure good circularity and dimensional accuracy of the finished cable.
B) Secondly to prevent an internal passage within the cable along which flammable gases could not travel.
6) Lead Sheath:
A lead sheath can be used as a chemical barrier in low, medium and instrumentation cables for all kinds of petrochemical projects. The advantages of lead sheathed cables are: Protection against the entry of hydrocarbons. Protection against moisture ingress.
7) Armouring:
In order to minimize the possible damage to a cable and to provide a safe path for electrical earth return currents, it is necessary to specify a metallic Armouring.
Mostly we prefer steel wires (GSWA) for metallic Armouring.

8) Outer Sheath:
The purpose is to provide shielding, keeping out external electrical noise, and also isolating pairs of wire to prevent cross-talk between pairs. Sheathing on copper cables gives mechanical protection to cables and also protected from heavy pressure.
The material used on outer sheath is PVC which was certified as per IEC60332.
