It is so heartbreaking to see & hear the genuine disconnection with Drew's thoughts, when she was explaining how her "mother and her friends go out to eat, and then leave her alone and don't pay attention to her"... my God. Drew, you are such an inspiration today. Every obstacle you've had to overcome, alone or not, is a blessing🙏
What about David Letterman. He damn near had to climb over her Boobs/Obstacles.
Oh good grief. Children are to be seen and not heard. That is drastic but when you are out to watch with your mom and her friend that's how it work. My niece threw up at the dinner table when my dad and I took her out to eat and the two of us were talking. Kids are way too spoiled today. She was fine afterwards. She wasn't getting attention and found a way to real fast 😮
@SarahSobieski We're talking about two different realities. Your niece didn't throw up while you and her mother were busy doing drugs at a nightclub, leaving her in a corner alone... Yeah, those type of kids are so spoiled. They're not meant to be seen only to be heard... You sound deranged.
@@SarahSobieski😂😂😂😂 dude what???? How is your situation anything like Drew’s.
Drew Barrymore is the poster child for the way children in Hollywood are downright neglected. She was introduced to drugs and alcohol by age 12. Maybe if someone were paying attention to her, that wouldn’t have happened
He's wearing a robe because immediately before this monologue the opening sketch took place behind the scenes where the whole cast was in Drew's dressing room in various costumes complaining about having a kid host the show. There was no time to change, so he just came on wearing what he was wearing in the sketch. I was actually at this taping. Almost 40 years ago!
I remember reading this in a book on SNL as well!
I envy you.
Gene,
Did you ever get that brain you wanted?
@@killroywashere2282 you’re sick
@@lanaboss11101 I would typically agree with your reply but knowing the horrors that happen to child stars, young women and really just Hollyweird, etc., wouldn’t be surprised. That guy who commented that based on his wording clearly was a piece of shit troll but we know Drew was at nightclubs and fed alcohol at like 8 years old so it’s not so hard to think that.
She just needed to be loved by her mum.
A good night kiss, a story read, colour in and draw, play. Sit and eat dinner with her. It's so sad, but Drew grew up to be such an amazing mother.
Colour? Oh relax. It's color and you're not special.
This might be hard for you to believe, but not every English speaker is American...
@@rainboweinstein Are they all Canadian?

@@ihavefallenandicantreachmy2113 Oh. Now blame Canada. How original 🤣
She was so adorable and it breaks my heart that this little girl was so poorly taken care of.
Absolutely. Very sad.
She is a middle-aged mom herself now, and doing very well for herself, so no need to feel sad at this point.
@@RebeccaStropoli agreed. She probably has plenty of money for therapy.
She was such charming little girl!
@@RebeccaStropoli she still may have trauma from being a child star. Just because she’s doing well now doesn’t mean it was an easy ride. I’m glad she’s done so well.
He straight up just said "if someone put a gun to your head" to a little girl, huh? The 80s were fuckin' wild y'all.
Yeah. People knew how to have a laugh. Wild....
@@kuerst you can't have a laugh without"jokingly threatening violence? Wild.
@@kuerst Hey boomer! I knew you’d be here.
It's one of those expressions that just means "if you had to choose" but it definitely shows how deeply violence is ingrained into American culture

Shannon… 🙄 so Boomer
What an incredible woman and mother she grew up to be despite all the went through. One of those very inspiring walking miracles!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
She was the cutest kid
She was cool and still is
Very natural, and she seemed smarter than her years too.
she still has the same adorable smile @46.
The industry and her momma failed her.
Drinking at 8. Cocaine at 12. These jokes in this skit says ALOT
Ok snowflake
@@securityservices890 how is she being a snowflake when that’s what happened???
@@securityservices890 yeah being upset about CHILD ABUSE is such a snowflake move 🙄
She should have been allowed to be a normal little kid. But Kudos to her, she overcame the problems she had.
@@securityservices890 wanting children to have childhoods doesn't make somebody a snowflake, kids shouldn't do drugs or drink man
She loved Steven Spielberg lol she always mentioned him in interviews
You never forget your first......acting role.
Until you dig deeper into what stephen is
@@melindadawn5 honestly he was the closest thing she had to a father, not putting it past him that he didn’t do anything to kids, but I doubt anything happened with Drew considering their relationship today. She’s cut off so many people, yet he’s still allowed around near her children etc.
@@mortb9 Sad but true.
Google Bob Sagets sickest joke.
Just saw a touching interview of Drew with Steven. She said he was the first person who cared about her. He said she is his train wheel to fatherhood. Heart warming bond between two deserving human beings.
It's so hard to believe she got on the wrong path but I'm thrilled to see her in films today I love you Barrymore
With her mom? Not at all actually

And all those elite child predators...
What wrong path?
Aaaaawww the talk about her mother taking friends out to dinner and her feeling left out. :( heartbreaking
Yes... She mentions her neglectful parent in every single appearance she had on TV as a child. It's really sad that no one cared...
She was so bright and quick! What an amazing little girl... not to mention she was adorable! 💗
@@newwaver9284 don’t be a hater. It isn’t attractive
I can't believe she still holds the record for youngest host!
She probably holds a lot of "youngest" records.
Macaulay Culkin was pretty young when he did this show too
That’s because now days A. There aren’t any really famous child stars that young B. Social media would be all “I’m cancelling nbc how dare you have a young child be up at 11:30 at night for an hour and a half with a bunch of adults hosting a show “
@@jcat8403 yes and no haha......
Idk, 7 is pretty young. Hard to believe they'd let anyone younger host. I'm kind of even surprised they let her do it.
I just die of cuteness!!
She still talks the same and has some of the same mannerisms i can’t believe it 😂😭
All of us do
Yes. She's reliving the childhood and innocence that was stolen from her.
It's interesting that she hosted the show at such a young age. I wonder if Lorne would have allowed it if he was there at the time. For those who don't know, he originally left the show in 1980, but he came back in 1985 at the insistence of the network.
Lorne Michaels had Macaulay Culkin host when he was a kid
@beachie670 Politics has been involved in some form on the show since the Ford administration. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Simple as that. 😀
@@bluebear1985 yeah but it wasn't so mean-spirited. And never so one sided. The adoration for Obama was so over the top. Biden would be ai easy to mock but they barely touch it.
@@margaretweber3931 I guess you never saw the Executive Order sketch
Jodie Foster was the first kid that hosted back in season 2 at 14 years old
" What if someone holds a gun to your head?" Is that really real!!!?
Asking an 8 year old which cast member she would marry. YIKES.

so cute . Those yarn things for the hair....memories of the 80s!
My mom wore them in the 60s too
They should bring them back. They look sooooo cute for little kids!!
so lovely Drew
Drew is the epitome of hope perseverance and success. We all love and respect you Drew! 🙏❤️
Can I just say that her clothing choice is literally my current style... Up to her rolled up jeans (I'm on 5 feet tall). I want that sweater! She was adorable, but agree that the appropriateness of the questions were a little creepy.
I agree
When he said he had a surprise for her after trying to make her choose him as her husband I got REALLY NERVOUS.
With the flasher coat too... yikes
why? did it make you want to jump out of the closet, and you felt you werent ready for it?
Yes! And bringing a chimpanzee inches from her face didn't make me any less nervous.
Dude is in his robe 😡😡😡
@@yourworstnightmare1332 Hey uh... just curious... have you been diagnosed with major learning disabilities? Or are you just happy not knowing?
Probably still my favorite actress. She had a rough childhood. Ended up in rehab at 13 for drug addiction then almost ruined her career. She made it somehow despite all the crap that happened and now she has her own talk show. She's still gorgeous as ever too! ❤❤❤
Things I want to do with a Time machine #24, give Drew Barrymore a proper home full of love.
Her mom brings guys to dinner lol!
The comment about which cast member she'd marry, gun to her head, aged about as well as 'Never Been Kissed'
Drew was so cute 😁 and so adorable
Congrats on your new show, Drew!! You are so resilient. ❤️
That guy is Tim Kazurinsky, officer sweetchuck from police academy.

Did she host at 7?! That’s wild
The innocence of children. We always talked of who we were going to marry in the 89s as children but didn't know what all it meant.
Pacman and Miss Packman!!!!!
Why do you put the K in Mrs. Pac man, but not in regular?
She’s not wearing a jumper.
@@jojomakes In England they call a sweater a jumper. Not everyone who comments on YT is American. 😉
She was adorable and all, but this is low key creepy…
In today's climate sure. But in the 80s it was normal... back then it wasn't on the forefront of people's minds that everyone was a predator.
Remember you are watching it in a totally upside down world in 2021.
@@jillmayer9501 no it was creepy then too.
I just watched this for the first time and I could just die from her cuteness. Oh my God she was just a precious lovely jewel.👍🏼🥰❤️
Drew was 4/5 years old when she starred in "Altered States" in 1980...Steven Spielberg recently called her the "Blonde Hurricane" when she was in his office in 1981 for the E.T. interview but what followed is downward spiral into drinking in 1983 and I don't know if it was her father or her mother who got her hooked on cocaine in 1987 (I'm sure I read somewhere that she was sharing the cocaine needle with her father or mother) but Drew herself said that if she hadn't entered rehab at the age of 14 in 1989, she probably would have been dead by the time she reached 15 or 16...how her mother could let this happen to her own daughter is beyond me...I seem to remember an interview with Drew in the late 1990s where she blamed her mother and stated that she was non-existent in their mother/daughter relationship.
Мать просто ЗАВИДОВАЛА ей, её славе. Поэтому мстила ей, "помогая" ей разрушать себя. То что она её ребёнок, не имеет существенного значения, так как её мать воспринимала свою дочь как свою соперницу.
She still has this personality
I’ve seen several interviews of her young and she seems very prepped, staged and rehearsed. She was constantly “on” which is entertaining but slightly concerning. Now she seems very off, I’ve seen clips from her talk show. She seems SO phony. Ridiculously over the top with her expressions and actions. It just doesn’t come across as sincere. As a CPTSD survivor myself, I can recognize problems and she has a lot of them. Pretty heartbreaking, actually.
Drew was cute little girl. So sad she had a bit of a bad
patch but got through it .
Now has her own babies. Some weren't so lucky. From South Australia.
When she's closing her eyes then seeing the monkey gosh so adrewaaable!
She is soo cute I love drew Barrymore
aww she so cute!
If anyone is wondering where you've seen that guy before, he is Officer Sweetchuk from the Police Academy sequels.
This whole thing is creepy in hindsight. Asking her what adult she'd marry...
I was thinking the same! And they pressured her on it too! Super strange! Even the guy asking the questions seemed like he didn’t want to ask that one…
Hollyweird from the beginning check out Shirley Temple.
Sexualizing children was so common; asking kids if they had boyfriend or girlfriend or this kind of questions. They thought it was adorable🤢🤮 DISGUSTING!!!!!
@@cristinasolano6487 I agree. Look at Shirley Temple she was just one of the baby burlesque dancers. Her parents sold her to the movie studios. That is why she stopped acting well she became an adult.
Actually at that age kids have their own definition of being married to. My kids always wanted to marry their mother as they thought that is something like taking their relationship with their mother to another level and why only dad got to have it with their mother. There was nothing sexual about it unless we expose the kids to details that they are supposed to know at certain age and still be able to handle the information with maturity
too cute!
she is so cute
Stephen Spielburg as a husband -- that girl was ambitious!
Super cute!
Why would they ask her things about getting married when she was that young
The 80s were weird
NO, they were great
The 80s were great. Thoughts were simpler.. A child could be treated as a child, showing affection to a child, holding her, would not have meant anything creepy....
Too much filth in the mind these days... Everything has a sexual connotation.... Everything is twisted
aditi banerjee I dunno.. why does a kid have to get married? And why would she choose Spielberg? 🙄🤷🏼♂️ and who the fuck is the guy in the robe? Is that a Weinstein reference?
Sum Amor YES, they were weird! They were weird AND great!
@@aditiban002 The way I perceived this was that he was making lewd references and sexualizing Drew. He basically said she was easy . And why would she have to choose an adult husband. The whole thing gave me creepy vibes .
She was so adorable
Adorable !!
She was adorable...... she still is.
"How do you like spending a lot of time with grown-ups ?" ( Think about how you answer that one, kiddo)..
She is soo cute! ❤️
"Steven"... so sweet
That might be the cutest thing ever recorded.
Check out Johnny Carson's interview of Drew - Johnny was way more respectful of her age, asked appropriate questions and her cuteness level was off the charts

I can’t believe this was the episode when they voted Andy Kaufman off the show lmao
So hard to believe this little girl would become Adam Sandler's movie lover

You're making something sound creepy that isn't. She was age appropriate by then.
Right?! It’s great though 🤷🏻♀️ and if she was 7 here he was 16-17

When everyone is freaking out about Drew Barrymore and her mother and they know nothing of the Barrymore legacy of alcohol abuse etc.
Was that Bubbles first appearance on SNL?!

The fact that she is only 7 years old here is insane to me…
I felt uncomfortable watching this at the beginning when his arm.is round drew and she's pulling away and trying to create a little space between them and he's pulling her back
In a ROBE
Didn’t catch that the first time. So inappropriate for a grown man to act this way with a little girl, and disrespectful of her comfort zone and personal space.
1982. She was 7. Two years later she was going to night clubs and started smoking and drinking. One-two years after that she was snorting cocaine.
she was a kid
@@karenling2106 she has openly talked about her young alcohol and drug abuse
She did well though, all things considered... I just saw she has a talk show now too
Kids grow up fast.
This comment section is a riot. People are so hot under the collar about this.
I can't stand the culture of asking little kids who they crush on, who they're gonna marry... It's gross. And knowing she was victimized at such a young age... I recently read that the interview she did as a child with Johnny Carson, where she tripped on the steps and took her teeth out? Her mom was giving her alcohol before, and she was buzzed.
Did Drew do the "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" at this hosting?
She saw stuff no adult should see or witness let alone a 7 year old.
Yep, that's the '80s for ya!
she is so sweet but you can hear some pain when she says her mother leaves her alone
