  • It's the Tamiya BBX off-road RC buggy and it's all new from Tamiya for 2023! I'm a bit late covering it but I've used mine heaps already. Let me show you over this impressive and rather different offering from the big T!
    (Big thanks to Simon for driving with me and tolerating my cameras!!)

      The Kyosho Scorpion and Tomahawk have trailing arms on the back as well as on the front. I prefer Kyosho to Tamiya but I wish Kyosho had a conversion for the front suspension to a-arms

    Nice video from you as always! It's a good overview how it works, and what its quirks are, definitely Tamiya's ball differentials are annoying... I will be getting a BBX later on when the price drops a bit, I might buy an aftermarket gear diff, I can spend the bearing budget on the diff, ha ha... Funny, I was also thinking 4000kV, good to see you also like it that way...

    I instantly regretted building mine over Xmas without proper tools, only the small allen keys provided, which ruined a bit the experience of what otherwise must have been an amazing build. And still, I don´t hate it. I didn´t find any issue with the ball diff, but I always read people having issues with them in forums. I also own a handful other cars with them and still nothing. Fingers crossed! Now I need to finish painting and getting some electronics to really enjoy it. And after today´s vid, even more. Looks like a ton of fun!!

    • @RCTNT

      There's a huge space for the battery but it's a bit fiddly to get it in and out, I guess. But the real restriction is that esc tray. I forgot to mention the shroud in this video but the naked fan still looks good. It's a decent buggy, fun to drive and smoooooth 😎

    What a great looking buggy! If you don't need waterproof, I bet a Hobbywing Justock 10.5 combo would be great in this on 2S, and it's a really economical option. Then again, your esc with that spare motor is probably even cheaper :)

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Před 5 měsíci

      Haha yes, in this case my combo was cheaper again. The justock combos are good, but these HW combos (BL120 ESC and various 3660 motors) are arguably better value for bashing:

    Pretty sweet little buggy! It's not really my fancy though, I'd rather go for a rally given those conditions but to each their own, of course. I almost got the Tamiya Ford Escort on the MF01 chassis a few days ago, but didn't feel like doing the whole build process this time. Haha right, yes, I'm familiar with that buggy but not with how bad it apparently is! I remember looking at it me considering it as a teen, but I'm glad I went with a Stadium Blitzer instead, by the sound of it!

    • @muskokamike127
      @muskokamike127 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@RCTNT the biggest issue is the frp flat deck chassis and the flex. The front "axle" is connected to the rear by the styrene body which breaks off the first good jump.
      Then the swing arm rear suspension doesn't go up and down, it is in an arc.
      then the clip on plastic tie rod ends that are useless after clipping them on and off to adjust toe in/out or if you take a good jump.
      The torsion bar rear suspension wasn't adjustable and it was bouncy as all get out.
      I eventually dumped the styrene body and made a frame out of brass tubing (I could solder it), I'll email you a pic, oddly enough I have it sitting on top of my kitchen cabinets lol

    • @RCTNT

      @@RCTNT well, all the old tamiyas weren't all that well thought out lol. The quality of the castings etc were great, but the overall design/engineering wasn't.
      but it's the same with anything, things improve with R and D.
