It always pissed me off that they got Finn bc they were like “we don’t have a leading man with vocals strong enough to match Rachel” like yes. Yes you did. He was just in a wheelchair so for some reason that means he’s not the big string hot guy leader u wanted. Artie was the best male soloist on this whole show and ain’t no one gonna change my mind. Blaine and Sam were good, but they couldn’t match Arties soul.
The fact he did that and they still didn't have ramps for him to enter the auditorioum.... they had to carry him up and down the stairs for at least a whole season

My #1 biggest beef with this show is that Mercedes and Artie weren't the female and male leads when they are clearly the best vocalists. I firmly believe it's because Artie was in a wheelchair and Mercedes was black and plus size. The show was written so that the slim, white, able-bodied people were up in front regardless of how mediocre their talent was.
Most people wouldn't notice this. Ryan Murphy basically tried to fill the void of black males through this character. If you watch Artie and how he responded to Mercedes and the slang he used. All of that and anything that would be sung and performed by a black male artists was always performed through Artie. I loved Glee but anything regular dark skin black males i saw on that show was never there. He had one in season one who was that light bright and close to Hollywood white tone. That actor spoke maybe three words and disappeared after the season. There was the second Puckermon later in the series. But again not a regular full black male. Only the bad and angry type characters were full black males (other than Mercedes bf who was not angry but was not a singer). This show was quick to cast the mean football players who terrorized the Glee club members and have black males then. But that's my point. When they do have black males. It's always in some light where they are negative or being negative. Otherwise it's the standard light, bright and as close to white actors that get casted. Ryan Murphy took it to another level by always having Artie fill those cultural black personality traits and songs through Artie. I feel like you wouldn't have really noticed this unless you were black.
