  • I always (foolishly) thought The Terminator was more of an action movie than a sci-fi suspense/horror. UH. could I have been more wrong?
PS: lemme know if any of the other Terminator films are worth watching (:

Terminator 2 is essential viewing. A top tier movie. You can kind of stop there. None of the others are necessarily bad, they might be fun, but the only reason there are 6 movies is because the first two exist.

I probably have the strangest "met Michael Biehn" story. I was at a horror movie convention, but I brought my Tombstone DVD for him to sign. He was at his booth, sitting there with his mouth wide open, looking more like a zombie than a human. I can only assume he must have partied too hard the night before or recently had a stroke.
Anyhow, I walk up to him and ask him how much to sign something not on the table. He doesn't respond. He doesn't even act as if he heard me. A woman with him tells me $20 for the DVD. I hand her the money and try to hand him the DVD. It's in front of his eyes but he doesn't seem to notice. The woman takes it from me and places it in his hands. He then recognizes the DVD and makes a sound that should have come out of Boris Karloff's Frankenstein. It sounded kinda like, "aaaaah!" Anyhow, he signs the cover of the DVD and then motions for me to lean closer to him.
He whispers in my ear, "I made sure to sign real big to take out all the Earps."
Sure enough, his signature covered the faces of Kurt Russel, Bill Paxton, and Sam Elliot. I reply, "Well, you missed Val Kilmer. He's the one who killed you, why didn't you get him?"
He whispers very intensely, "No... you don't understand... Ringo wants to die... Doc Holiday set him free."
And then he went back to being comatose.

In the movie, Kyle tells Sarah that the terminator is a cyborg, but it's actually an android.
A cyborg (cybernetic organism) is a living organism in the first place, with artificial prosthetics or augmentation.
An android is artificial being in its nature, constructed to share the traits of humans. The living tissue on the endoskeleton only serves the purpose of blending in among humans and not an integral part of the T-800. Only units manufactured for infiltration, will get the human tissue coating.

Actually emergency lines can be busy and what's even more heartbreaking, due to a lack of hired cops or budget reasons; there is many, many times where dispatch simply has to tell someone, even in a life threatening emergency that they have no available units and that the next free officer will come as soon as possible, though sometimes police will get pulled from their non emergency calls if possible to be sent there

The great thing about this movie is that it lays out a time travel story in which NOTHING CHANGES. The future is the cause of events in the past which result in the very same future. No changes and no paradoxes and no alternate timelines! Everything that happened, will still happen because it already happened. Even more interesting is that all the characters in the story, including Skynet, proceed on the assumption that they CAN change the future by altering the past, but we, the audience with an outside view, can see that they are wrong and in fact everything they "changed" actually resulted in the same future they departed from. The war still happens, and John Conner still eventually beats Skynet in the future. That is the brilliance of this movie.

Great Terminator reaction. It was surprising and groundbreaking at the time. Especially since most people at the time went in cold, expecting another shlocky sci fi B movie, with that title, and got This. Still low budget, but it did amazingly well and became a classic. As said, T2 is a worthy sequel, after that well...
For this genre I would recommend the Alien franchise,1 & 2 at least, The Matrix, Avatar, and Planet Of The Apes (1968), if you haven't seen any of them.
For a change of pace, maybe The Green Mile (1999) Frank Darabont's other classic prison drama?

When this movie was made, it was considered low budget. It was made with a low budget and didn’t have any expectations of doing well. That was the pre-release buzz going around back then. Little did critics know but this film topped the box office shooting up to number 1. People who had seen the movie were talking about it in school. When it was released on VHS, my mom snagged it up! And we were all instantly blown away by it. In spite of its less than lackluster special effects, this goes to show what a creative genius James Cameron is. His directing and his way of telling a story is what made this movie so grand and imaginative. Because of his success with The Terminator, James Cameron would go on to direct one of my all time favorite movies; ALIENS!! If you haven’t seen it, do it. But make sure you watch the first ALIEN (directed by Ridley Scott). And when or if you do watch or react to ALIENS, make sure it’s the Director’s Cut. This is probably one of the only times I have ever preferred a Director’s Cut over the Theatrical Release. Loved this reaction!!❤️😎⭐️🙌🏼

In seeing people rewatch this, I've come to understand the greatest sadness in this film. Kyle was wondering what Sarah was thinking about in the picture that John gave him of her. It is the most beautiful sadness, that she was thinking about him. She could never tell Kyle that the person he loved in that moment was loving him back. As far as impact, the film is watershed in the Cyberpunk, sci-fi, dystopian, and action genres. T1 and T2 it would not be a stretch to say are revolutionary. It also made James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger's careers. The franchise despite the misteps taken after T2 is permanently iconic.

So, James Cameron has said, when he released the last Terminator movie, that only the first and second movies (plus his latest) conform to his vision, and the other sequels are "not canon." That said, Terminator: Salvation, is a particularly good sci-fi movie, but it doesn't play to the aspects of the franchise which fans expect to see in any Terminator movie. But it is none-the-less a great existential exploration of humanity.

The plot of the film is that the war has already been won in the future, people have won. But Skynet managed to send the terminator to the past in order to kill Sarah Connor and cancel the victory of the people. Kyle saves Sarah and thus the people win. Yes, the war will take place, but the end is already predetermined. Therefore, the film begins with the phrase "The final battle will not take place in the future, it will take place in our time, tonight."
And yes, in the first film, according to the original scenario, they go to this Cyberdine plant, just to prevent the end of the world and blow up the company's plant, but it turns out that they bring a robot there and bury it under pressure, provide the company with a microchip and the hand of a terminator and become the cause of the outbreak of war ...
That is, if they had not gone to prevent war in the future, it would not have happened.
And the second film puts a dick on the time loop of the first one and destroys everything. But at the end of the second, in the original ending, the war does not occur.

As much as I also love _Terminator 2: Judgement Day,_ I also have to recommend _Terminator: Dark Fate._ It forms the perfect third in a trilogy, picking up where T2 left off. It also ignores everything else that came after T2, which is honestly for the best. DF provides the perfect completion to Sarah's arc, and even the Terminator, after a fashion. It is just as much of a must-see as T2.
