      Technically, but we were considerably behind on goal difference. Even if we won 3-0 at Palace it perhaps wouldn't have done anything. The loss at Chelsea was when the title was no longer in Liverpool's hands. Even a 1-1, or 0-0, draw would have been fine, which is why I don't really blame the slip. Still had plenty of opportunity to not lose that match

    The problem with Gerrard, and I say this with more respect than with a negative impression, he's ultra loyal. Nobody can doubt that. But. That loyalty can also be perceived as selfishness.
    If I said he was 'selfish'....how could you contrast 'selfish' from loyalty?
    He is a decent person and has some experience now....but suppose he manages Liverpool....but he flunks for whatever reason....his legacy will be at risk.
    Would I like to see SG as the boss? Maybe.....but not yet. He's still not ready. Would he do well at City? Chelsea? United? I don't think he would. Most would agree with that. That being said, the new LFC manager may also flunk and SG may then get his chance....

    • @FalasteenHurra

    • @sleepingwarrior4618
      @sleepingwarrior4618 Před měsícem

      @@FalasteenHurra I'm not sure that's true. There is a saying....you're only as good as your last game. Kenny Dalglish was one of our best ever players....and won the league as manager....and is fondly remembered because of it. Kevin Keegan was a great player....but not so great as a manager...and how you remember him (or not) is your bag....but most don't rate Keegan at all now. A memory that's wilfully forgotten I would argue.
      Gerrard is comparable to Dalglish currently, not Keegan...but would he end up being like Keegan? Time may well tell...

    • @FalasteenHurra
      @FalasteenHurra Před měsícem

      @@sleepingwarrior4618 I don’t know what you mean by ‘most’? I haven't encountered anyone who doesn't regard Kevin Keegan as a massive club legend. The roles of being a player and a manager represent distinct chapters - one does not negate the other. While it might merge for reactionaries if a player turned manager doesn’t meet expectations, devoted Liverpool supporters who regularly pack Anfield do not actually care.

    • @sleepingwarrior4618
      @sleepingwarrior4618 Před měsícem +1

      @@FalasteenHurra Keegan was a great player. No doubt about it. But the point I'm trying to convey is that despite Keegan's ability as a player, most remember him for his manager roles with England and Newcastle and he was average at best.
      He isn't remembered for his abilities as a player unless you restrict the conversation only to Liverpool fans.

    • @FalasteenHurra
      @FalasteenHurra Před měsícem +1

      @@sleepingwarrior4618 Kevin Keegan was voted 8th in top 100 Liverpool legends in history, if I remember correctly, so most Liverpool fans still regard him highly despite Hamburg. He won a Ballon d’Or, too, so most informed football fans agree he was a great player. Underrated, if anything. He still attended Liverpool matches with no fanfare when he removed himself from public life. I remember seeing him in Anfield (More accurately I remember my grandfather pointing to him).
      My original point was even if Steven Gerrard didn’t meet our near impossible expectations as future manager, it would never tarnish his legacy. That’s the only thing I took exception to.
