    I started Eggplant and Peppers in containers late summer in partial shade. I am bringing them in when it is under 50F, just to get a head start after my last average frost date. I am also germinating seed for tomatoes and different peppers indoors as of 12/30. I have two 60 foot rows of cow peas that have died back and plan to put them there, where hopefully nitrogen has been fixed in the soil (I may till in a small patch of mustard I grew for nematodes). I hope that can get them all established and producing well before the powdery mildew/whiteflies return next summer.

    I grew Sugar Baby watermelons last spring/summer here in 9A Florida. I got about four nice melons off of two plants that were about 4-6lbs each. My daughter liked them. I still have some left over seeds and will probably do a couple this year as well.

    New to the channel and loving it. I planted Ace 55 this year and had a great crop (once everything ripened, which seemed to take forever!) Enjoy!

    I love your channel! I live in Northwest FL and your climate appears similar to mine, just slightly colder where you are. I have tried all sorts of squash and pumpkins. I have only had success with Seminole pumpkins due to pest pressures. I only do organic gardening and landrace so Seminole pumpkins are the winner for my area of Florida.

    Ben I love your channel. I would love it if you would share updates when you are starting your plants, I watched your other video where you said your frost date is April 15. I finally expanded my garden this year and will be able to grow soooo much more. I am new to learning when to start these cool weather crops and I can make the adjustment to my start date based off of yours. (hope that makes sense). I don't need you to show me each time (lol) but just a mention would be so helpful. I too are giving the honey boat a try this year. Location: Outer Banks, NC Thank you for all that you do.

    My rural lot I moved to last summer has horrible soil because it was once a hill and was leveled. I started by mass planting Southern Cow Pea varieties and added green grass clippings and I`ve been adding a mix now of chopped mowed leaves, pine straw, and the last of the green grass before a freeze gets it. I chopped up the soil some with a Japanese hand tool but in the spots where I tilled with an electric tiller my winter greens, radishes, etc refused to grow. I`m on Social Security with no car so I have to use whatever I have on site to improve my soil. I`ve never seen a lot like this in Louisiana. I happened to get the only one, apparently. Can`t even dig a hole for a fruit tree. I need something far beyond a shovel like mining gear and a jackhammer.

    Can't say if we're loyal or just lazy, but we do tend to place our seed orders with companies we've already done business with and have been satisfied. Nowadays we're looking for our favorite this, and favorite that, or at least our preferred variety of any given crop. Since our tastes in foods tend to be opposite (e.g., I adore every cabbage variety, eaten in any and every way possible, and himself detests cabbage no matter how it has been prepared) we're sort of growing two gardens in one space and need to be selective. To make the seed-purchasing situation worse, I am a garden seed junkie and always curious about anything new to me....
    Oh--and a factoid if you enjoy factoids: that second part of the name of the carrot with Red Core as the first part is said, "SHAN-ten-nay." No doubt in my mind you'll do fine with it.

    Have you ever tried MIGARDNER seeds? Great price and good selection. I'm new to your channel and am loving watching the starting seeds advice 🙂

      No I haven't if he had something I needed I would buy some. To me a seed is a seed. The package is just a name

    This past season, I planted red snapper and roadster very late, like the end of July and I still managed to get a decent cluster on each (I snipped everything but the first cluster) the roadster were bigger but the red snapper were just as tasty & productive 😊

    New to your channel and loving it so far! I’m also in NC, in an area where we have sand for soil. No red clay here. I’ve recently had really good luck with belstar broccoli from botanical interests, it seems to do very well here. Much more heat tolerant than other varieties I’ve tried. Now I want to add the one you’re using, because as you know we struggle big time with broccoli and some other brassicas. …but for me broccoli has been the biggest pain in the butt. Much to my husbands dismay, as it’s one of his favorite foods lol. Thanks for the content! Happy gardening and merry Christmas!

    Hey, love your videos. Have a question. How do you know which seeds you can save? And which ones you can based on legal rights and one's that only produce once and their seeds are sterile like gmo's, non-gmo's, heirlooms, organic, etc.

    • @sandybottomhomestead
      @sandybottomhomestead  Před 6 měsíci +1

      You can not buy gmo seeds it is against the law to sell them to home gardeners and we can't afford them. Otherwise I save what I want. I don't worry about the legal stuff
