  • Bicycle Engine Kit CDI Troubleshooting Tips. This is one of the first things you need to do to the CDI unit of your bicycle engine kit before you actually start installing the engine. It will save you a lot of headache and head scratching later on (believe me).

      Hi Lee,
      Before you do any of the below checks you need to eliminate the fuel side from the equation. Once you are satisfied that fuel side is fine then do the checks below:
      1. Check all the wiring to make sure you don't have any loose connections resulting in a weak spark, also check the cables at the magnetto end where they attach.
      2. Check to make sure you don't have any shorts in the wiring anywhere and also check to make sure everything is grounded properly.
      2. Also do the CDI wiring check in this video (plug boot & base).
      3. Then replace the spark plug and see if it makes a difference.
      4. Then replace the plug boot (i have come across faulty ones in the past).
      All the above no difference then do the below in the order below::
      1. Replace the magnetto (still no difference go to step 2)
      2. Replace the CDI
      I'm 90% sure if you follow the procedure above you should get it up and running ....

      Lee, one of the things i used to do when i used to ride one regularly is always keep 1 CDI, 1 Magnetto and 1 spark plug as a backup with me on the bike. Trust me you don't want to be stranded :) ...

      Well I hope you get it back on the road soon. If you want you could take the old carb apart and clean everything completely, then dry it and put it back together. There is a spring needle inside the bowl of the carb which stops fuel overflow, if dirt gets in its path it will not be able to close properly and you will have fuel leaks etc.

    that "fresh end on the plug wire" trick is absolutely a "must do" on pretty much all motorcycle coils or CDIs, whether just off the boat from china, or just out from under the back porch after a couple years off duty, lol. that little trim off the end is also standard procedure if you upgrade the plug boot, or switch coils out as well... listen to the man, kids! that "fresh bite" makes a world of difference in spark intensity

    OK so I've had these engine kits for a few years now,Been wondering if I would gain any benefit if i'd be using two cdi's on one engine,would I gain anything or would it just be wasting space,or worse overheating or something like that?

    hay i got it working quick question i installed this hp carb and the motor is running a lot hotter is that normal and what grade gas is good for this motor bike

    • @BritishTechTV
      @BritishTechTV  Před 7 lety

      I have only used the NT carbs so i cant make any comment on the HP type or how it may affect the heating of the engine. When you say what grade, do you mean what grade oil? If so then 2 stroke oil will do, if you really want to take care of things you could use fully synthetic.

    Your annotation is incorrect. I have a kit from 03-2014 and my ignition wire is mounted by a screw in the cdi.. I think it may have been lightly glued but it came out without any tools

    • @shithead
      @shithead Před 8 lety +1

      +ilikebeer also the boot itself is not screwed in, it is a spring that pierces through the end of the wire. The best way to remove the boot is to put that spring through the boot and then remove it and pull the wire back through

    • @shithead
      @shithead Před 8 lety +1

      +ilikebeer sorry, commenting as I watch, but when you're screwing the parts back in, there's a pretty good chance of "stripping" as there is no threads - you're essientially just wedging the screw between the small wires. If this happens, just unscrew the wire, and squeeze is with some pliers or vice grips a few times to bunch the wires back up. I find starting at a slight angle helps to sort-of tangle the wires up around the screw. or find a thicker gauge wire, which is what I did.
