You are right, another person was controlling zoom and focus. They were in quite a dark covered up area close to the camera so my shots of them seemed just like silhouettes of people sitting down - not a very interesting shot which is why it's not in the video.
The gallery recording is during live broadcast, in the BTS shots of cameras "live" refers to when they are mixed in the feed (live) and you can see what the shot looks like in the bottom right corner but I can see how it is confusing. The shots were filmed during various rehearsals and the live broadcast and edited together later.
