    Been doing Saunas all over the World since 1990's. Live in Los Angeles and go 3 time a week for the last 3 decades. People think lm in my 30's...turned 61 last week!!! Fountain of Youth!!!

    Swim, sauna, hot tub, steam everyday after weight training. Been doing this 43 years. I call my hot tub, steam room, dry sauna and cold pool my reward center. Love it! Keeps me looking and feeling young and healthy.

      Make sure you have enough water nearby. Also, I *think* you need to have a small amount of salt in your water. I'm not sure of the exact amount. It's not much. I'm pretty sure Sea Salt is preferred over Table Salt.

      Ha! Been doing that for some time too, it's called driving junk with broken (or no) air conditioning. Believe I've only ever owned one vehicle with working A/C, and yes, it gets warm here frequently (above 90°F) during the summer months.

      @@silasakron4692 I've always had a working AC in my cars, just rarely ever use it to take advantage of persperation and circulation benefits...sometimes I just sit in it while parked in the sun going thru the mail, etc.

      @@silasakron4692 Yeah, but you need to replace your fluids and electrolytes when you do that. You can search around probably to find the right mix of sea salt to water. Gatorade is probably not the best thing for you *except* when you are competing in high intensity sports. Most people should probably stick with plain water with just the right amount of salt added. Also, stop lights are REALLY bad when you have to do that in the southern hemisphere.

      BTW: Personally, I find it easier to ride my bicycle in 90°F weather than to drive in a vehicle with no A/C. I'm in good physical condition though.

    My husband and son built us an outdoor wood-burning sauna this winter. I have always wanted one and this was the year.! Ours has no electricity so when its's winter, we take a light with us. No electronics in the sauna. We absolutely love it! We mostly sauna at about 170-180 degrees for a half hour or more and then cool down outdoors. We live in a cold/windy area in the north so it's a good cool-down, then shower. There is something so therapeutic not only physically, but mentally too. I read somewhere that it's a little like going to church -- you're quiet, solemn, meditative, and so relaxed. It's not something we hurry through, but relish the experience -- even building the fire is part of it. I know sauna is doing great things physically to my body, but the calming experience is one of my top benefits!

      Absolutely. When I started doing dry sauna, I wasn’t expecting that amazing calming sensation that lasts afterwards. Nice sense of well being, especially when I do sauna after a nice aerobic run fasted of course! Great combo

    So interesting seeing the science behind sauna! We are Finnish so we have always had sauna... we take a sauna every day, sometimes 2 when it’s really cold out.

    I love the sauna! I call it my sauna therapy. I sit in a dry sauna for 4 rounds 10 mins after every ten minutes I get into a cold tube. My body feels so amazing afterward. I wasn’t aware of all these health benefits, it’s amazing! I try and encourage everyone to sit in the sauna.

    I sauna everyday about 175* for 15- 20 minutes. Immune system has benefited tremendously!!! One thing to note is the importance of an extreme electrolyte increase!!! Redmond Real Salt has done wonders for me as so much salt and minerals are lost in saunas.

    Lifted from 7th grade to 42 years old. Had an injury. Needed to do rehab. Started hopping in sauna for 20 minutes at 190 degree’s before exercising in pool for 30 minutes. Sometimes I’ll jump in whirlpool after pool for 15 minutes than back in pool to cool off. I fell in love with this routine. I do this 3 times a week and hike 3 times a week. I noticed my anxiety and stress started to be under control after doing the sauna and pool routine. With daily demand of work, kids, marriage, dogs that need to be walked this type of routine makes a difference. I don’t know if I’ll go back to weightlifting. I’m currently 46 and feel really good.

    Five years ago, my 21 year old daughter and I were both coincidentally exposed to mold. (Different buildings). When we got our test results back, we went on to ebay and found a brand new, (box was open, so Costco wouldn’t allow the purchaser to return it) 3-seater infrared sauna. We got it for $900. I absolutely love it.
    Because we were both so sick and highly sensitive, we could only tolerate 10-15 minutes at first. Neither of us would break a sweat, but when we’d get out, we’d feel exhausted for days! Anyhow... slowly our bodies adapted and we were both able to detoxify quite a bit of the mold. Still had to use binders, anti-fungals, low carb diet etc...

    Mike, I have two things I'd like you to read here:
    1) When discussing sauna and heat therapy I wish more people would discuss the potential for hot bath use. Many people can not afford the thousands of dollars it takes to buy even just an infrared sauna. Hot blanket or portable infrared saunas bring the cost down, but still many could not afford it. Almost everyone has a bath and a hot water heater. I've been using hot bath for a few months now and I'm able to get the starting temp of the water as high as 112F. I'd love more insight on hot bath from folks like yourself.
    2) Unrelated, but very important. I'd like your insight on APOE4.

    When we aren't in lockdowns our local community gym has a steam room, sauna and spa in the price. I try and do 30-50 minutes 3-5 times a week. Love it.

    I love the sauna at the gym. Can’t wait to get one of my own. For now, for me, just a really hot bath where it causes my forehead to sweat for at least 20 min is good and thankfully has the same benifits as sauna. I’ve been doing sweat baths regularly multiple times a week for almost 10 years. It has improved my health remarkably. Actually has helped me overcome a horrible autoimmune issue. I add some Epsom salts sometimes for added benifits. I’ve recently in the last year or so added cold therapy in the form of daily 3-4 minute ice cold showers (~35 degrees), daily 30-45 min cold weather exposure (in winter) and weekly 5-7 minute ice baths (~36 degrees) every Saturday as well. All that, coupled with a good breath work routine (soma and wim hof), regular daily exercise (running and calisthenics), proper rest, good mental and emotional health practices, and of course a well balanced diet has all made it so I haven’t been sick in over a year. No covid for this dude. Take good care of your bodies my friends. You only get one of them in this life.

    This is so fascinating. I've had bad circulation all my life & decided to get one of those wet ( perfect for deep conditioning coily hair), portable saunas. I also have chronic low back pain from an old accident. I adore my wet portable sauna. It's nice to feel my circulation getting a kick, temporarily removing my pain, & doing wonders for outside of my body too. I can't live without mine.

    I feel like this would apply to soaking in a hot bath as well. I’ve done a little research on Hypocrates and ancient Turkish, Roman, and Korean bath houses and have come to the realization that you can add so many things to the bath water to receive their therapeutic effects. Ideally herbs, by making a decoction of plant material, and pouring it into you bath you efficiently absorb the water soluble plant compounds in the water through your skin.
    I’ve used things like pine to stimulate deep and heavy breathing, cleavers to stimulate lymphatic movement, and hibiscus to stimulate blood flow (and made beautiful red/pink water) all of these methods had noticeable effects ESPECIALLY the cleavers.
    This way of bathing used to be well know and vastly practiced but has now been lost to history. It is well worth looking into.

    Loved your video. All we have is a hottub and we use that for an hour a day (sometimes twice a day) and that is 103 degrees. We love for all the reasons you give plus sweating out our body's toxins. We are Keto /Omnivore /Carnivore and intermittent fasting and love the effects of all of this on our body. We are 62 and 60 years old and look and feel 20 years younger. We never had time for all of this plus exercise when we were working. Thank you for your video.

      @@poollife777 no we do not, we have a bromine hot tub and bromine indoor pool and love them both. We also try to shower after the pool and especially the hot tub to wash off the toxins that you have just sweated out.

    Lol here in Finland you buy pretty much any apartment, and there is a sauna included. At least you have an access to the common sauna where you can reserve your time of the week

    New to channel and liking what I get from it. Lost 80 lbs in 2020 and my health improved exponentially. Some of what I hear on your channel I am experiencing in my health changes.
    My only feedback is the "over scientific" explanations lose me. Dumbing down is actually good to do. It allows me to transfer knowledge to some degree vs.no degree.

    Sauna and gym are some good perks in the military. I miss that. Planet Fitness and the likes aren't even 10% of the quality of some of the worst gyms we had. PF gym is better than the weight bench we built out of cardboard boxes in the middle of the desert. I'll give em that win.

    Baby boomer here. When I was young, there were established saunas you could go to, just for a sauna. Eight years old, and my 'big brother' introduced me to them. (big brother assoc.)We really need to bring those back!!

    I've always been into saunas but never really went into them much! I needed this today.. I signed up with my YMCA and I'm going to try and get in their dry sauna at least 2x a week.     In the mid 90’s I developed an autoimmune illness. At that time little was known so we had to learn by word of mouth calling strangers who knew a friend, who knew a friend.

    Oh, how I miss living in Korea. A sauna on every corner. In the US or Canada, if you live in a metropolis, there's often a Korean sauna/spa available.
    Looove the Himalayan hot salt rooms, filled with mugwort. What I like about Korean spas, is, you don't have to wear a constricting swimsuit and you most likely will be offered a cold bath, hot steam room, as well as a dry infrared room of some type. In Korea, you get an actual "cold room" with walls of freezer coils that have ice on them in addition to all of that. Thought that was the best, until I moved to Taiwan, where they offer the Chinese Medicine bags floating in the hot baths. That relieved TONS of pain. For now, I'm buying a far infrared blanket during Covid. All the spas are closed.

      @@amperage8032 The blanket I ordered is smaller than expected. Nothing to rave about. I just picked it up tonight at my drop address. I'd go with a higher quality blanket than the one I ordered from Sharper Image. Actually, I recently moved to Sonoma, CA, where I joined a swim club. Now I can swim mylaps in a geothermal water lap pool, have a geothermal hot tub experience and swim in a "warm pool" ...all geothermal. I missed out on swimming all last year. Pretty much one of the best options for someone with scoliosis. I took a painful dose of excessive Vitamin D3 for one month. Could not walk. I joined the pool to aide in release of unnecessary pain. And get back into cardio, movement and one of the sports I love.

The geothermal pool sounds wonderful and good therapy for your body. I also have back issues. That’s why (one big reason) I work out so I can improve my strength and core stability.       @@amperage8032 Thanks! Not really aiming for "The Best..." as I can't possibly have "the best" of whatever I really place importance on... I can say, Dr. Jill Carnahan has offered her folks a discount code for the HigherDOSE Far Infrared Mats and Blankets. The thing that disappointed me about the Sharper Image product is: It's simply too small. I want it to cover my entire body, like a sleeping mat. It's an odd size, leaving the legs exposed, or the upper body exposed, depending on where your aches are at any given moment. Since my entire torso gets inflammed, all around the ribcage, as well as my lower back and knees -- simultaneously, I have to choose. But the Sharper Image product does work. Yes, my joining the pool for the summer with it's mineralized geothermal waters including the lap pool -- is a service that's virtually unheard of. I recently attended a water yoga class, there, that seems to be VERY beneficial -- even more so than my water arthritis class. Sadly, the Aqua PT's (physical therapists) who were contracted to teach free classes to members at the Aquatic Club lost their contracts during Covid. I arrived after the fact, yet have heard the loss of their services are definitely mourned and were invaluable before they left. I am learning about Rx Lidocaine patches, which are definitely helpful AND give me vivid dreams I can remember. Have a fabulous summer!     The unpaired electrons in a free radical is what most interests me with regards to Red light and near infrared light... It actually supplies electrons to these unpaired electrons cells (free radicals) To me this has to be more mainstream...

    Infrared I far prefer BECAUSE it is dry heat, so the effects are achieved without energy-sapping steam. As in the tropics, high humidity makes it feel hotter than it is. So you can tolerate higher heat without discomfort. But you might need to pay attention to wavelengths. Mine is Canadian hemlock (sounds poisonous!! But it's lovely non-warpy timber) has 3 carbon fibre infrared panels in an oldstyle telephone-box sized cabinet. I do up to 1 hr at 55 or 60 degrees C. Trying to work up to a cold shower after (but I hate cold showers!) Love very very cold air, cold rooms, would happily sit in a freezer, but not cold and wet together for some reason.

    When I was in the Peace Corps, being invited to your neighbor's sauna -- was the best treat. Ok, half the places I lived, I did not have an indoor bathroom xD. It's so nice in the winter (most of the time, we didnt have heat either hahaah). The sauna practices are very interesting, though - ie use of certain ointments including for healing. Your muscles and skin really feel great afterward. The hammam and saunas were such an interesting part of life in Ottoman, Soviet, and pre-Soviet regions.

But that's just silly, if you understand the penetration depths of far infrared, infrared etc. These are very long wavelengths that penetrate a very small distance. Please don't keep making this comment, it's just wrong.       @@amperage8032 I love my IR "hotbox". 😊 The hormetic effects of heat (and cold) challenges reduce hypertension, are treated by the body in the same way as exercise (heat, sweating) and I think increase ratio of brown fat to white fat (a good thing). Have fun with yours! 🙂

    I use a mobile sauna. Its a small tent with a steam generator attached to it. Bought it on Amazon.

    My wife and I have been doing hot yoga in our pollytunnel followed by a cold rinse off while we water the veg. Its euphoric and cost very little to set up 😁

    We have the infrared sauna at home, full spectrum . Although I’ve never reached 190 degrees , at 130 degrees Fahrenheit I’m sweating bullets.

    I used to be a sewing teacher. People would ask me what is the best machine to buy? My answer: The one you can afford and actually use. I found an incredible deal on a Infra-red sauna blanket. I could afford it and use it. 😊

    I own a inf sauna it works lol. Mes with the temps for what's comfortable with you in the beginning. Only thing I do is I turn it and set it and let it heat up for like 30 or 40 minutes then I go in. Its relaxing I sleep better especially when having to work a grave yard shift

    Thanks for the great info. I have and love the one person tent type steam sauna. About $100 off of ebay or zon. Fits anywhere and I get hot and sweaty in about 8 minutes. About 20-30 minutes and I have to get out.

    I use a hot tub between 102 and 104 5x a week for about 15-20 minutes. I play sports and body build, the hot tub bath and bubbles greatly reduce my recovery time from both strength training and endurance sports such as biking. The results are even more substantial when you add in an ice bath for 3-15 minutes, but this gets tedious and expensive.

    Been sauna-ring for 30 years. I’m 52 now and sauna 3-5 times a week. I love how it makes me feel. The “reset” I feel.
    It sets me up for all ahead. Sleep is divine. Appetite is fantastic. Mental well-being. I try to upsell to all and your video helps so thanks brother!! In UK we are well behind hot room therapy but it’s building. Here’s to long life💪🌊🏄‍♂️🥾⛰🌈🌍❤️🙏

    Could you do a video about legumes? All the longevity researchers seem to be recommending a low animal protein diet. I see even Dr. G has changed his tune saying they should be included in the diet as long as they are pressure cooked to remove lectins. What’s your opinion on the current research?

    Great video. So much valuable information. What would be interesting would be an investigation why Finland has a high incidence of Alzheimer’s even though they have more saunas compared to other countries. Either way I’m using mine everyday.

      Wonder if it has anything to do with how much they drink alcohol? I used to go to Finland often and many has their first shot with their morning coffee. No joke. Many friends there joked that on their 21st birthday they get a liver transplant. It was crazy

      As a Finn I assume that a high incidence of Alzheimer’s is partly becouse of too much sugar... Here in Finland we are supposed to eat lot’s of bread, potatoes and vegetable oils... and intermittent fasting is not very common. We drink a lot of coffee, usually with sweet pastry every day so insulin resistance is the main reason for this kind of deseases in Finland.

    Time to start talking about supplements and Saunas. Niacin and Sauna detox protocol? When to exercise using Saunas, before or after how long? Replenishing water and electrolytes from sweating. Any labs that analyze sweat? What's that yuck on my towel? Any relationships between sweat analysis and hair analysis? I love my little phone booth infrared sauna and 3 X 250 Watt red light bulb rig. I installed aluminum foil inside to knock down EMF components close to the head above. I heat up the infrared and shine the red lights inside to warm up the box faster abt 15-20 min. I installed shipping insulation all around sides and back, top except elect vents. I take this time to meditate and do a self lymph massage and some minor stretching. I'm compelled to do this 3-4 times per week. This infrared sauna and my red lights are THE most effective pieces of equipment that I own! Even if I lose the ability to exercise, this is a form of hormesis with so many benefits! Would like to know more about heat shock proteins and muscle building too!
