  • It's time to deal with the inside of the Bugatti. The initial plan was to apply automotive seam sealer on all the interior and exterior seams then black it out with rocker guard.... Except now, Bad Chad wants to put hockey tape on the interior seams in place of seam sealer. The concept is that seam sealer will be applied underneath on the exterior so why is it needed on the inside? Other than causing an ugly mess. We're going to experiment on a small section and see how it looks and reacts 🤔

Good idea, next year when all the tape peels off you can seam seal it !

  • @janevandemark3394

i think the Rock Guard is a good idea. As far as the hockey tape I would buy seam sealer. Why? Do it once do it right. The other thing that struck me was how sharp the edges are on the inside of the Bugatti. That is where the seam sealer pays off. If you put carpet over those rough edges wear and tear will certainly follow. Glad you are experimenting to find the right answer. Jolene deserves her due on this. Spring is afoot. Take care.

You are now coming to the end of a long build and now you want to save $20 on seam sealer.

  • @DarthParkerCustoms

They sell a seam sealer tape too. Might be a better option than hockey tape. And look cleaner than the caulk style seam sealer. But if you’re covering the inside with carpet, it doesn’t have to look beautiful under it. Just caulk seam seal it and use a direct to metal coating. I don’t think that rock guard is direct to metal.

Chad it seems like once that is exposed to water it will lift. I think a better option would be to run tape on each side of the seam to be sealed then spread it then peel the tape off if you want clean seams

  • @CA-ws3wh

Bad idea even wrong kind of seam sealer over bare metal will fail will rust under seam sealer have seen it many times. Building such an awesome vehicle, not the time to start short cutting

  • @bradleymckay365

Cover the entire inside with dynamat and you will never regret it. Plus that way you only have to undercoat the underside.

  • @epahearn

Been there done that. I never was successful in keeping water out with tape. The problem is that any water that seeps into the seam, from a spilled drink, water from wet boots or a window left open, leaky door seal, washing the car, will get into the seam and stay there (you sealed the bottom of the seam) until it rusts itself through the panel. Also you can paint/seal over tape but the bond with the metal is only as good as the tape adhesive.

It'll dry out quicker than modern, liquid seam sealers. The car looks amazing, man! You really are a coach builder, an art that is dying, thanks for not only keeping it alive, but teaching people how they can do it, easily, with jaw dropping results. Can't wait to see it finished! Cheers from Auckland, New Zealand.

I would sound deadened the floor and the center console and not worry about it

  • @mikeross5820

Wished you would of did a test somewhere with tape on panel to see if rock guard will eat or not stick well to the tape. But your the boss.Good Luck.

  • @kevinching1975

I find that people taking shortcuts usually end up taking a lot longer to do the job properly

  • @stephenbonin3049

Hockey tape will hold moisture and promote rust.

  • @deansmetak1785

I worked in a auto assembly plant and we used tape over drain holes the body and then covered with seal sealer. It didn't look pretty but it held up very well . Seam sealer was used everywhere metal came together. Watch every day and enjoy your hands on videos and your nataration. Hope to meet you and Jolene some day.

  • @RW-bi2rp

rock guard paint is porous and does not offer any corrosion protection. It will look good but rust will start to form underneath the paint in no time

  • @tgxperience

I had the interior of one of my cars treated with smooth truck bedliner (Line-X). It was professionally sprayed and was extremely affordable. I really like the end result. A lot of Jeep owners apparently do it according to the guys at the local Line-X.

  • @jeffkeeley1507

I think it's genius. If you look at some things in car doors and some wiring looms in cars they are rapped in tape that looks a lot like hockey tape. It's seems soooo Canadian as well. Lol.

  • @CravingClassics

Seam seal can be a mess at times.. but I have a custom made metal tip I use to get really uniform application.

  • @gordensimmons7401

Great idea and love it, I guess you won't really know for years how it holds up, but since it's overkill anyway definitely worth a try. I don't build cars but houses, zip system tape is unremovable and rubber totally seals, yet might not be able to take paint. No idea never tried to be honest. I have used a mesh tape imbedded In a liquid latex rubber, brush applied that was easy smooth covered everything including holes in walls and then painted over worked really well. Could work for you.
