I went out in the car today with the intention of making some photographs and I captured a grand total of ONE. Having to use a walking stick to get around, I can't venture too far from the car (with limited parking opportunities) so my single picture was of the Masonic Hall in Sandbach! Bugger. What you said was spot on - the familiar becomes boring (familiarity breeds contempt?) so I'll have to try harder next week. I must remind myself that although I find my familiar surroundings very boring, people who don't live here may think differently. Just a thought....
I know how you feel I’ll be 67 next month and don’t get around like I use to.
People Love it here for photography when they visit. I think when you've hit all the hot spots you run out of ideas for something new. Maybe to battle that go on a photowalk in your own area with someone that hasn't been there before and I can only imagine you'll be kicking yourself why you didn't think of that location earlier ha ha. Thats happened to me. Hope your photo came out well. Parking is also a pain here!

You are right about getting fed up in your own area. Loved the pics in the church and the bike one was great.
I love your philosophy of having a good time shooting and the photos are a bonus. It’s so therapeutic going out exploring with a camera. I think my mind is more open when there’s no goal of getting a good photograph.

Man up! The RZ and RB are studio queens; they weren't really designed to lug around much. I see videos all the time saying "Oh, you can hand-hold the RZ67." Well, you can, but it's not much fun. That said, I have both and they are my go-to cameras 95% of the time. I take the 180 mm you have and the 65 mm L-A, two film backs, some filters, a small tripod, and a few rolls of film when hiking. The pack weighs in at 19 pounds, but it makes for good exercise in the East Tennessee mountains. It's worth the weight when the prints come out of the fixer. Keep up the good work and better luck next time with the D-76.

I'm surprised that you aren't into cemeteries! They're some of the first things I used to photograph on film when I started out. I have a show in April that's got a dark theme so I'll be exhibiting some images like these around churches and cemeteries. Great work as always Rog
Yeah I know some like a gravestones. I guess I can't see it printed on my wall at home, maybe thats why Dane. I've tried it but never gelled with it. Maybe I've seen too many horror movies!
I do visit cemeteries often, too. Here in Hamburg we do have one of the world largest with beautiful sculptures
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Heh, good point. I don't have any hanging up in my house either. So far I've only made postcards of my cemetery shots.

The RZ67 looks like a great camera, I actually have the RB67 Pro S since I am concerned with the electronics failing in the RB67. I think the lenses are fabulous.

If that's St Mary's Brading it is 12th Century. Those plain cylindrical columns are much earlier than 16thC.

another nice video - thanks - Mamiya did make a special cable release the RB/RZ cameras that has one plunger with two different length cables, the one raises the mirror and holds it as the other trips the shutter. its just one push and I can't forget to lock the mirror up on a slow shutter exposure - not that i have ever forgotten 🙂
I've got one of those cables. Never used it for this camera. Has two buttons on it
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss -l have not seen a two button version that would seem inconvenient. The one I use only has one button that activates two cables in sequence - they are specifically for the RB/RZ 67 - I see them called Mamiya "mirror up" cables on eBay
Loved the photo of the fence, Roger. When you showed the 6X7 back it got me thinking. What if Kodak still produced the 122 Roll film and someone like mamiya, Pentax or Hasselblad produced cameras for it, or we had a 122 back for the 4X5 format?
I have a few 122 negs from a charity shop find. They are huge. 6 shots

Maybe. There are a lot of old churches here. The interior in this one was not that photogenic, or maybe I need to spend more time there.
I haven't had trouble with D76 but I have had trouble with Xtol, having been involved in 2 recalls back to back. I switched to Adox XT-3 instead of Kodak Xtol. It's definitely more active but works wonderfully. I use it in replenishment and have had the same replenished back for going on 3 years now. Similarly, instead of buying D76 or ID11, I started mixing D23 myself since it's a very simple developer to make from scratch and is essentially very similar to D76 but requires only 3 ingredients (water, metol, sodium sulfite).
Oh! Almost forgot to say, that photo of the bent fence is incredible by the way! Lots of good photos today but that one was my favorite.
Thanks Tim. Interesting what you stumble upon, stare for a bit and then personally see a photo in it. I'll have to try that D23. I'm looking at starting to make my own Devs.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss I think you'll like D23 in that case! Given it's only 2 ingredients plus water, I might argue it's easier than mixing up a big bag of D76 or Xtol.
"Pictorial Planet" has a few CZcams videos on this very subject where he shows you how to mix up the developer using household measurements (teaspons and what not). I myself use a digital scale and coffee filters usually to mix up my chemicals. I also have a heated stirring thing but you don't need any of that, especially for D23.
You can use D23 in replenishment too! It's not as simple as XT-3 or Xtol but since it's so easy to make it also easy enough to make the replenishment solution (Pictorial Planet also has a video on that). You can also mix paper devs too!
You could even go all the way and mix up 510 Pyro! Though I would recommend using James Lane's. I mixed up a big batch of 510 before I was able to get Zone Imaging's 510 stateside but I'll be switching to his after I run through it. It's not hard to make but you need to heat the glycol up to like 80C and the powdered Pyro does make me a tad nervous (I use a respirator when mixing 510 from scratch) and some of the measurements are small. Oh and some of the chemicals, even in powdered form, can fall off. All that means I'd prefer to let James do what James does.
I bought one a few years ago because I always wanted one! I can’t find anyone to work on it, even just CLA. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thx.

On this particular episode you would have been better served by different lenses. A 50mm and a wide angle would have worked better.

Hi Roger...1 800..help ... d76 ..hope all good ..being stateside I use d76 ...and when I go back to UK ./use Iford /..I do small batch processing so I scoop out the dev powder...about two table spoons to a litre of water and reuse the same dev for about for films ..(.point 45 of an Oz to 1/32 gall water )
Bit odd about the D76 I use it stock no problems to report mate.

If it has I wouldn't know. I've never seen an xpan format back
Hi Roger is it possible that the D76 has been affected by the use by date 2016 and or storage may have contributed to the inconsistency.? Although I've not had storage or age issues with powders, mixed or unmixed.
It's still in date Peter. It's stumped me completely.

Last year, I used my last pack of D76 dating back from 2012. No issues whatsoever.
Yes Roger , I like my RB67 very much the last 22 years . I use the KL and APO serie lenses for this camera . I only mis the longer times in the RB67 . It is on the heavy side , but at the back of my Dutch "ladybike" is a big box with at the bottom a soft moped innertube against shocks . I use this for 25 Years without any problems witn my camera's and lenses . I like to cycling with my camera , if I see something nice I can stop rigth away and not have to worry were can I park my car , But I'am Dutch and even 75 plus people go cycling for fun ..... I was given some D-76 powder I had forgotten about what it would make up to, guessed a litre and I had the same problems the negs were empty. Tried again and the same thing happened so I threw it out blaming myself.
It's easy to blame yourself as you'd never expect the manufacturer product to be bad but it's always a possibility.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss trouble was I didn’t keep the nite that said how much it made up and I haven’t used D-76 since the 90s. I’ve got some HC-110 I’ll have to use but I do love the Xtol
The last two batches of D76 I’ve made have given me thin negatives. I use it 1:1. It makes me not want to use it anymore.

If the RZ67 is heavy, try the RB67. The RZ weighs nothing compared to the RB. Can you image the thousands of hours Photographers worked with the RB only for the RZ to come out?

I have a RB67, the mechanical version and I can honestly say that it is a house camera ... too big to carry around!!!

borrowed one of these from a friend but found it too unwieldy to use.
It is a great tripod camera for studio portraits. For walking about with its heavy, but great to shoot I find. The only tricky part is if I want the camera position higher than I can see through the view finder as I don't have the eye prism. So I am limited. Or take a ladder!

I don’t think your developers bad I think your light metering was just a little off. I know you pointed your camera in the sky to simulate the leader. I think it didn’t get enough light. the reason I’m saying this is that I thought similar thoughts last week when I shot a role and it turned out to be to thin. So I shot two rolls of different film, one Ilford, HP 5+ and one Fuji acros 100 on a bright sunny day and saved half the roll for another day. Then I shot on a overcast day with good diffused lighting developed in D76 at normal times delusions of 1+1 one shot use And sure enough my metering was off on the bright sunny day and more accurate on the overcast diffused lighting day so I got half rolls with half thin negatives and the other half was good negatives so my developer was good. The leader on both occasions looked nice and black. It took a very bright light to even see anything through it so I think my developer was good and I also think your developer is still good.
No mate. It's definitely bad lol. My 35mm leaders are also too clear without extending the time. I left that exposure for 8 seconds wide open at the sky. Should have been enough to clear the silver after fix. Thanks for the help though.
I've used the Foma equivalent, can honestly say I was never 100% happy with the results. The usual problem was thin negatives and one batch I bought had a sort of pink/purple cast to it and I've never used it again. Kodak's D76 should last a long time if stored properly but it's a single part powder, whereas Ilford's identical formula ID-11 is a two part powder. I've never had any issues with Ilford's ID-11. I buy a 5 litre mix and weigh it out 1 litre at a time. If you're getting thin negatives from a fresh mix of D76, throw it away rather than trying to compensate - your results will not be consistant if you use marginal chemistry. Edit to add: Just seen a fair few comments down the list - lots of people are getting the same results. So, make a note of the batch number and see if maybe Kodak released a bad batch or something. As you said Roger, you don't expect a firm like Kodak to mess up, but when they do....... Either way mate, seriously, don't experiment with it, just buy a new batch and throw that old stuff away, after making sure the new stuff you try has a different batch number of course!

For carrying that much weight around and only ending up with 6x7 on 120, not having camera movements (tilt, shift, rise/Fall) doesn't really make sense in my mind.
It's about using classic cameras and having fun. I enjoyed it anyway
I've considered ditching film due to the price but my wife likes it when I use film, it doesn't show the wrinkles as much as digital because I don't have stellar glass. She gets horny when I take her portrait.

@Shoot Film Like a Boss women should really cover their heads in church, and men uncovered as a sign of respect, as you should lift or at least touch your hat to a woman or person of higher rank. All stems from bible traditions. In a busy church you would have been asked to kindly remove headgear.
