Elon Musk's master plan for launching Starship from the sea!
Creating breakthroughs is one of the pathways to success.
Elon Musk's SpaceX has done this many times in the past, opening up many frontiers that the aerospace industry had not previously explored.
And coming up is not an exception. SpaceX will execute a unique plan to land Starship on a "virtual launch tower" at sea.
It sounds insane, but it's truly fascinating!
So, what is the virtual launch tower at sea in the plan that Elon Musk just revealed?
What advantages does having a launch and landing platform at sea bring to SpaceX's Starship?
Let’s find out on today's episode of Alpha Tech:
Elon Musk's master plan for launching Starship from the sea!
We all know that SpaceX has made significant progress with the Starship program over time. This progress has been especially evident through the increasing efficiency demonstrated in successive launches. And for the fourth launch, it will be an improvement over the previous one, showcasing further advancements in the Starship program.
Elon Musk's master plan for launching Starship from the sea!
In the third flight, the spacecraft experienced a collapse during atmospheric entry. Now SpaceX aims to pass through this stage and control the descent of the Starship. Another goal is to land the Super Heavy booster on a "virtual tower" in the Gulf of Mexico. This will serve as a dress rehearsal before attempting an actual return.

I think launching Starship from the sea is a great idea.

Look at all the road activity between all the SpaceX sites at Boca Chica. Now think of all the traffic going to a launch platform offshore. Add in weather. Oil rigs can do it because they don't have that traffic. The more remote a launch site, the harder it is going to be to get everything (cargo, passengers, vehicle, maintenance, ground support) there.

      @kistuszek Před měsícem

Correct, but most of the activity we see in there is development of the factory and production of ships. A platform that functions properly will mostly need fuel and cargo. Most of which will also be fuel. And fuel is easiest to transport by sea, as there is already an infrastructure transporting LNG.

Since Spacex can reliably land Falcon rocket Booster, they shud have ability to land the Starship booster - it is only a matter of practice to become familiar with the much heavier and more bulky Starship ! It will happen. Ihope it is soon.

I meant to add, I realise Falcon is built with legs and Starship booster presently doesn't have legs, however the Space moon lander will have legs, so it is a matter of time !

Great Video ! A SpaceX Starship launch from the sea is a great idea for the Tanker Starship if the rocket has a RUD ! tjl

I'm really confused my understanding is SpaceX sold both the oil rig platforms they were converting years ago

My guess big rockets on land smaller ones from sea or vice versa having chop sticks for big rockets at sea the platform got to be massive just for leveling on water witch is not calm in most times.

Maybe have a detourant to scare away the many fish that seek shelter under the starship platform. Just to keep the wildlife officials happy. Great idea though 💡😜

I think purpose designed and built sea platforms are a great option. Not so keen on cobbling up from old oil platforns or anything else.
And I suspect SpaceX will be able to afford the best.
As trucking things into orbit and back is likely to get lucretive.
Also sales of Starships. Elon will be able to finance whatrver he wants, and stay ahead of the competition via the same methods he always uses.
Basically Spacex is the new Orbital Boeing.
Gonna corner the market for awhile, until the competitors get serious and get the financials booted to actually compete.
I think this next launch will gain serious ground on re entry. And 3 more Starship
V-1's will allow them to add to what they learn, and adapt V-2 designs accordingly.
Its gonna be like the evolution of Raptor engines, V-2 will be obsolete within a year or two, and SpaceX will be building V-3's....
Remember those early ships after hopper? Humorous now....
Best part though is SpaceX going exponential, while the competition is struggling with capsules and small rockets.
    Bad mouthing SpaceX accomplishes nothing.
And Elon isnt going to stop this side of Mars.
I'm hoping to live long enough to go beyond Mars...
At the rate things are accelerating, thats not impossible.

    ! THE ONLY SOTUTION!
Baffles will not work to prevent the fuel slushing problem, because the tanks of the starship system are too large. That is the only reason why the starship engines have been exploding every time.
    The solution:
The tanks of Starship and Superheavy need 2 disk valves, expanding the diameter of each tank. One of the disks, the one on top, rotates above the contiguous disk to close the overlaping holes on the surface of the disks; to reduce the Size of the tank by dividing it, before any rotation or acceleration of the rocket. This will prevent slushings and protect the plumbing, if located 10% above the bottom section of each tank. Large telescopic pistons can be attached below the bottom of disk valves to control the fuel pressure as the piston expands into the fuel tank.
I have built a model that works perfectly. The second disk valve can be located 10% below the front of the tank, to also protect the front of the tanks from the slushing forces.
The gridfins are too flat and too small to be effective enough and will not be able to control the booster.
Why is Elon not using four pins instead of three to secure each heat shield tyle? Four anchor points provide far more stability to secure a tyle, not three. Also, each type should be constructed with the bottom half of the brick consisting of an interwoven latice of steal mixed into the silicon, to provide a foundation of strength and durability to each tyle. What is more important than securing the heat shield by providing the maximum stability and strength to each tyle? The interwoven steal mesh lattice mixed into the bottom half of the bricks, and the four anchor points would eliminate the problems of tyles falling off the ship every time there is an engine ignition event. Please get this message to Elon. Thank you.
Also, Spacex needs 3 actuators to move the payload bay doors correctly, not two. They have only two now, one at each end of the payload bay. They need one at the center position. Three will guarantee that there will always be enough support to open and close the doors, even if one of the three fails.
I know the spacex engineers can see these problems. It is like ignoring the elephant in the room. The solutions should be a no-brainer. Musk needs to hire people who can be trusted and who will not continue accepting bribes from Jeff Bozo to sabotage and cause unnecessary delays to the Spacex Statship program.

or just make the header tanks bigger (to hold enough to do boost back to landing) Minimum weight addition and problem solved.
