- So you have a no start with your 97 -01 Nissan Altima and a check engine light with a p0340 code well the cam position sensor has gone bad and its built into the distributor.
Once that sensor is replaced your car should be back up and running, this video will walk you through it.

Camshaft sensor is located cose to O2 sensor (right side to the exhaust manifold shield). Crankshaft sensor is located into the distribuitor, is an optic device. I think many people are confused. P0340 is associated to Camshaft position sensor wich is a magnet.
Think you have that exactly backwards. The distributor is tied in with the camshaft, not the crankshaft.
Incorrect
You said you might have to adjust the timing? Could you be a little more specific? Im about to replace the distributor on my 93 Nissan Altima and am trying to figure out everything that will be involved in the process. My car is giving me knock sensor code (34) and the camshaft code (11) and I have all the problems you described in the intro to your video.
Will this cause a no spark issue as well. I think my new distributor is defective. Because it gave me a code for the cam sensor again. I am getting power and ground to the plug.
AWESOME"!!!
can u please tell me all the part # ON everything u replaced. ..I can't find the right rotor at all
Where did he buy the distributor?
What is the color coordination if you can remember
Whats the part number for this?
Great video. One question: can a bad distributor cause a car to run too rich? I have a 93 lexus es300. Thanks.
A mass airflow sensor, oxygen sensor, coolant temp sensor, bad thermostat or a bad fuel pressure regulator can cause a rich ondition
Hey man what’s the part number for this ?
What year is this car I have a 98 Nissan Altima and i was told the camshaft sensor was below the battery
Can I do just the sensor and not the whole distributor ? Has new fuel pump I've done and all new brakes so $500 just invested and car died on highway. I checked for oil under the cap and was clean. Thanks man
I'm guessing no. I'm an idiot 😂
What year this is old school
i replaced this peice but i still cant get the car to start. no spark from the spark plugs either.( new plugs) engine turns and can hear fuel pump. could it still be something related to this?
Might be the timing belt is not timed correctly it might have moved or a very loose timing belt
Hello,
I think i have a bad distributor my car is doing the same thing until it won't start now, but I wanted ask how can I test my distributor to see if is bad, before I buy a new one I don't want to down the 150$ plus
$50 bucks on ebay
yes i have the same the problem. code p0340 along with p0325 i replace de knock sensor and clear the codes. the p0340 has no come back yet but i still have noise in the car just while driving (is this common) the car sometimes will not start and some times just dies. should i go ahead and replace the distributor?
Interesting, looking at one that had the same code combination, P0340 and P0325. Wonder if they're related.
My 98 Altima has the same codes I’m debating on just changing the distributor
So there is only a camshaft sensor and no crankshaft correct?
There is a crank sensor mounted on the transmission case.

So you can't replace just the sensor you must replace the entire distributor?
That would be acceptable if it were a reliable part that never failed, but apparently not the case.
