I’ve never understood how people can be handed something like the Witcher , with it’s built in fan base, on a golden platter and fumble it as hard as they did. But as far back as I can remember whenever mainstream writers and directors get their hands on nerd culture they change whatever they want to run it into the ground and then call us toxic for not enjoying the massive turd they left on our doorstep

They do it to insert identity politics and antagonise those fans. The people with money don’t believe in identity politics they believe in capitalism. So they invest the money into turning shows into crap with identity politics so you’ll conflate that with “left thinking” and join their side in politics. The people who own these studios and these productions are not left wing. The owners are always conservative.
Such tactics have already been seen in places like 4chan. Where conservatives try to gather fans because people who are nerds and like this kind of stuff tend to be people who are lost politically. A blank state that can be tempered into becoming “anti left”
You can see that in every video of this kind. People are alienated. Next time they hear a feminism say something they’ll remember how they felt when the feminists butchered their favourite franchise and come back to this moment and pick the opposite side.
It’s a dirty tactic and it’s working very well.

Most of what you said - Geralt being wounded in Brokilon, Ciri wandering around the desert, the attack on Arethusa... - are actualy in the books. But they forgot to put the rest of it, that will tie it together. It's like they use plot points when it suits them so they can point "look! We use the books! The Two Towers is a great example of convenience working. The final battle is lengthy and tense, characters die with enough attention to convey emotion and regret. Audiences are on the edge of their seat and it's only when all hope seems lost that Gandalf appears with another army. THIS is effective convenience- because it's earned. The audience had to go through a lot before they got relief and that satisfying rescue

    • @manisahota6437

  • @KeytarArgonian
    @KeytarArgonian Před 10 měsíci +38

Here’s the issue. About 70% of the story beats are actually book accurate. The execution, however, is not. This could have been something somewhere between the Red Wedding, and the Joker robbing the bank scene in the dark night. It’s a build up, it’s tension, it’s shock, it’s plots it’s Guerilla action. Yes, the coup happens, yes Geralt literally stumbles into it all going for a piss, yes, Dijkstra and his men detain unarmed Geralt, yes Geralt escapes and breaks his leg, yes everyone is split up, yes the conspirators are first caught, yes Tissaia makes a massive error and let’s them escape when she learns the war was instigated by the kings of the north, yes that’s a mistake, yes that let’s them free to let the Scoia’tael in and start fighting outright again, yes ciri is chased by Rience who is with the Scoia’tael, yes cahir is also there after ciri, yes the goes apeshit on him and hacks him bloody only to spare him, yes Geralt then arrives and spares him too seeing him broken and hearing he saved her life in Cintra, yes Vilgefortz arrives and they fight, yes, Geralt loses, yes ciri enters the tower and escapes Vilgefortz through the unstable portal, yes Triss rescues Geralt, yes the tower collapses. Yes Tissaia commits suicide (with no mention of Yennefer ofc and her not even being there).
But it’s so badly done that it’s boring. It’s just a boring rendition of it, with as you said, too much stopping and leaving and coming back and convenience. And there’s also a bunch of other crap added that doesn’t happen.
Rience doesn’t die, Cahir doesn’t wish for death, Yennefer disappears at this point, captured and compressed by Francesca but nobody knows, *NOW* it’s thought she works for Nilfgaard not like in season 2, Filavandrel isn’t even there, neither is Fringilla. Geralt goes to Brokilon but Yennefer is nowhere to be seen. Milva is brash but not half the total bitch she is in the show. Dijkstra isn’t some weird soppy sub begging for death.

With all the resources at their disposal, such as the captivating books, a devoted fan base, and the talented Henry Cavill, it's unfortunate that the creators' ego hindered them from delivering something truly exceptional. It's perplexing that a series titled "The Witcher" would relegate its central character to a side role.
The decision to introduce current politics into a fantasy world is a contentious one, as many fans prefer their fantasy narratives to be an escape from real-world issues. Perhaps, the creators could have chosen to remain loyal to the source material and explore the rich stories from the books, which could have pleased the devoted followers. It's saddening to witness a missed opportunity like this when it seems like the primary goal should have been staying true to the essence of the original stories.

I loved "The Demon Cycle" by Peter V. Brett in my early teens.
Back than I had a lot of "Lord of the Rings" style Kopfkino about the first books. Sitting down and starting reading was like entering a magical place where all the greatest endless budget things of cinema would be brought into my mind.
Kopfkino is german = head cinema.
It's when you read a book and see the story as a movie in your head.
I am 21 now and I just wish that "The Witcher Situation" doesn't happen to The Demon Cycle....

Spoiler for people who did not read the books yet:
    1. The bird defending Dijkstra was supposed to be owl, ie. Philippa Eilhart.
    2. Magic was not effective on Geralt´s leg in the books (he had severe injury to the knee due to the fight with Vilgefortz, who had enchanted staff at the moment iirc). So, Triss took him to dryads of Brokilon and they attempted to heal him, which was partial success.
Of course, these would make sense if the series followed the books, but here we are.

If when you’re watching this season, you perceive each scene to scene as different scenes from a half decent local theatre group it makes much more sense and feels more natural.
Outside the main cast, some of the side characters are truly some of the worst actors I’ve seen in a thing in ages. They honestly deliver lines
Iike they’re in Hollyoaks, or something of similar ilk.
That Asian chick in the forest has the worst line delivery I think I’ve witnessed in fuck knows how long. Also, well glad you dropped that reminder of that little prick who looks like MJ. Brought me a moment of amusement.

Here is a criticism of the show that sums up how i feel about The Witcher: Blood Origin , The problem that underscores the entire series is that there simply was not enough time for the characters or the plot to mature over four episodes. The Blood Origin ending does not feel earned because the plot is so badly underdeveloped and the characters follow woefully generic arcs.
The Witcher: Blood Origin also seems to have rushed through its production, which constitutes another case of underdevelopment. The unnamed monster that wipes out the monarchies during the pilot episode is a particularly bad example of CGI. The CGI issue is present throughout the series.
Blood Origin’s Characters Lack Depth , Another critical issue for The Witcher: Blood Origin is that the characters come off as one-dimensional stock fantasy characters. unoriginal characters still come down to poor writing.
As such, these new characters require time on screen and relevant dialogue to set up their backstories and make the audience care about them. Instead, they are given vague and generic backstories that provide minimal depth and cause the show to feel unimportant, creating a massive problem for Netflix. For example, Éile, also known as The Lark, is given a very vague story about needing to redeem herself to her clan. However, it is never clear what exactly she needs redemption for. Moreover, The Lark's clan, as well as all the other clans, are never explained in any detail. Instead, they are simply thrust into the story to provide a paper-thin form of background. Without more information about the Lark's past, she comes off as just another fantasy warrior seeking some sort of ambiguous redemption. In fact, virtually all the characters in Blood Origin come off that way.
Fjall Stoneheart, who ends up becoming the first version of a witcher, is given the same amount of minimal background. In the span of perhaps his first 5 minutes of screen time, Fjall goes from a quick battle scene, to sleeping with Princess Merwyn, to being expelled from his clan. His arc is accelerated so much that his story is unable to take on any individual meaning. Fjall is essential to the plot of Blood Origin, as The Lark is, however, neither of them is important on their own because of their lack of depth. The characters ultimately come off as placeholders in a loose framework of overused fantasy tropes.
Blood Origin Lacks Originality , The aforementioned lack of depth, in terms of the show's characters, the plot, and the world building, causes The Witcher: Blood Origin to come off as painfully unoriginal. Blood Origin uses narration in an attempt to provide depth and make the show feel more important, but this is simply disastrous. Jaskier appears briefly as the narrator's audience, but that does little to make the show feel relevant, or make the narration any less corny. The mysterious narrator also seems to be used in self-defense of the show's lack of originality in a conversation with Jaskier, but its defense only serves to underscore its lack of creativity.
The Witcher: Blood Origin ends up feeling like a collage of worn-out fantasy tropes driven by a skeletal plot. everything from the generic plot to boring character arcs, displays the show's singular underdevelopment in all aspects of writing and production

Okay, I thought The Witcher went downhill over a year ago. I thought we let go of this Henry Cavile selfie a long time ago. Season 1 wasn't bad, but to be fair, I never play the video game, and I had a very hard time understanding what was going on because it was all over the place. But regardless, if you really want to know what's destroying filmography, I will tell you. They are hiring pretty people, to look good on camera, and read a script. They're not worried about actual talent anymore. That's why all these idiots keep getting all these roles, like Timothee Chalamat (or whatever the hell his name is) play Dune and Wonka in one year, even though he has almost no professional portfolio of his own.

    THE WITCHER SEASON 2 ,
one of my biggest problem with season 2 was that i was looking for character interactions & some good dialog but nobody talked about anything except for some witty small talk. i blame the writers because they had an opportunity for some character development & wasted it. they didn't development CIRI & GERALT relationship in the right way when they had the opportunity. the writers rushed to get to KAER MORHEN when they didn't need to. they should have taken their time to let CIRI & GERALT build a relationship. don't even get me started on the on the fact that they skipped the time when CIRI was a child [ 6 or 8 years old ] & GERALT saved her. it was the first time , they met. how could the writers skip that. the writers completely character assassinated YENNEFER by having her betray CIRI & GERALT. i don't care if she changed her mind & saved her in the end. none of YENNEFER choices or actions make any sense in season 2. there no way that YENNEFER would ever allow any child to get possessed just to get her magic back. she might do something like that to an adult but never a child. i can't understand why YENNEFER would save CAHIR , i can see someone like TRISS not wanting to murder CAHIR but i don't see YENNEFER being bothered about killing some Nilfgaardian she doesn't know or care about. plus i'm shocked that GERALT didn't kill YENNEFER for putting CIRI in so much danger. that's really out of character for him. its really weird that he's so forgiving at the end of season 2. i will be the first to admit i don't like YENNEFER after she left her magic school. i really liked her character when she a hunch back. she interesting & not such a bitch. it seems like instead of trading her womb for her looks , she traded her ability to have kids to be a bitch. i don't have a problem with her being sassy & a slight bitch but her being queen bitch all the time makes it seem like her only character trait. i don't know what GERALT see in her honestly. even in the books & games , they have nothing in common other than CIRI. a child is not enough to make a relationship work. i have no clue why the writers killed ESKEL. they brought in a bunch of new witchers in season 2 but choose to kill ESKEL. instead of killing a new witcher off. that's nonsensical

Where the title main character brings in the fans for a base audience and then the show not so subtly transitions it to a different side character that is 99% of the time a girl boss. 6:38 Triss was allergic to healing magic. She could use it on sb but not on herself. I don't think it was mantioned in the show, so I guess it is not a case here.... We would have know that if Triss not Yennefer was with Geralt and Ciri in first episode as Triss had a stomach flue and couldn't use magic just herbs to get better. Not even potions made with magic.
Vilgefortz leaves Geralt not dead as he was just an obstacle between him and Ciri and he needs to get to her as fast as possible.
14:33 Jaskier in the books acculy gets into Brokilion by singing but it was by a plan not chance. Geral was crippled but when we get to him in the books threw Jaskiers point of view he is not dieng, he has beeng walking around Brokilion with Direds for some time and he is ready to go even if not as capable as befor. In the books he often has issues with hos broken leg thereafter.

I think coincidences can be used in writing, but mainly while setting up the plot/conflict rather than resolving it. Coincidences happen all the time in real life, but stories are not real life and we tend to have certain expectations from them, EG. hard work and sacrifice paying off, actions having consequences, good guys overcoming the odds, etc. When the happy ending is caused by something out of left field, outside of the control of the heroes, it's jarring, anticlimactic and it lowers the stakes. Why get invested in something when the rules can change at any moment?
That said, if the point of the story is to be a subversive deconstruction, then yes, you could have all of the heroes' efforts be a complete waste because of some unforeseen and unforeseeable (or completely coincidental) intervention. Not everyone will like the twist ending, but in the right setting, with the right setup, it can work, for example Warhammer 40k; not so much Star Wars.

I cannot agree. There is nothing worst than Ciri with the shot of her own blood. Season 3 is going to fix many things and they did. And only few things went against the lore. I know, there were many missed opportunities like the Yarpen's "What have you done to us?" in Shareawedd or much much better battle at Thanedd, but only few things are really bad, like dialogue between Dijkstra and Radovid after queen Hedwig murder and, of course, Jaskier with Radovid. Season 2 had nothing to do with the lore, just names of the characters.

Season 3 of the witcher was the first time in my life i actually turned a series off mid episode as i was so pissed off. I can't believe how much of a dumpster fire this show has become, casting, writing, plot decisions all absolute sh*t
Also, a lot of people have picked up on geralt being crippled in episode 7 and 8, but that is what happened in the books, he is taken to brokilon because his injuries are so bad and Triss can't heal him herself, albeit because he had fought off a whole unit of nilfgarians and scoia tael, rather than just having his arse handed to him in a one off fight. But it is the reason Milva becomes such an important character. Unfortunately the show just did a rubbish job of portraying this, they didnt even clearly show why Milva (who is not a druid) was even at Brokilon. (but of course they got in an Asian actress who can barely speak/act in english, well done Netflix)
Also the scene of Ciri in the desert in the books is brutal, Ciri gets ground down to the point of absolute despair, it made me cry, but in the show it was cringe and boring, again just rubbish lol
One of the things the show was going to struggle with was how they transitioned from geralt being the main character to ciri as this is what happens in the books. Instead the way the show did it was they just decided to basically undermine him and just leave him out. I was hoping they would add more monsters for him and his assembled crew to deal with as they journey after trying to rescue Ciri, but i doubt that will even happen.

While in the book I can even imagine how bad the chaos inside Garstang Castle, mage and elf battling each other, Keira fight like hell and got tossed by a mage through the window, fell on Geralt and begin to tell the situation to Geralt from her perspective. It was more epic than this crap.
