Thank you for the great video. If you want the CDs, the Boehm 3rd& 4th and the Solti 7Th (and 8th) are in the DECCA Eloquence CD Box of all 9 Bruckner Symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic. Also, it has excellent performances of the 2nd and 6th symphonies with Horst Stein, the 5th with Maazel, and the 9th with Zubin Mehta. A lovely set of all the Bruckners.
Also, the first horn of the Boehm 4th is most likely Roland Berger. He is also the First horn on the DG DVD with Rafael Kubelik from around the same years. The amazing Gunter Hoegner is the first horn on the Abbado CD and DVD on DG. Two of the best sounding orchestral hornists ever.

Thank you. Yes, Berger and Högner, take your choice. Both incredible. I heard Berger do Bruckner 4 live. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Thank you for sharing. I really like Karajan with Berlin for Symphony 4,8,9. I also like Haitink, for 8th also did 9th symphony on Philips label. Great Symphonies 🙏🏻 Thank you!

Karajan’s earlier analogue 9th was my go to during my teenage years. Loved it.

I have the Klemperer 7 on ´ The Klemperer Editionˋ - 1985 remaster ( not digital! ) german late dog pressing - 1 LP. Sound is awesome- like many of the german late dogs. Other examples Barbirolli/Butterfly, Klemperer/ Don Giovanni, Kempe/Strauss, Boult/ VW, Klemperer / Mozart & Beethoven symphonies, Perlman/ famous concertos.

Thanks very much , for your insights, recommendations, and stories regarding this composer. I have recently become obsessed with his music ( by way of Mahler,) and truly appreciate it.

Thank you. A very interesting video. Just a few obversations. I do prefer the complete cycle by Jochum on DG, I actually think the sound very good and certainly better than the EMI. Interestingly in both recorded cycles Jochum deploys a single cymbal clash at the opening climax of the 4th movement of the Fourth Symphony as indeed does Karajan. It's not in the score and I can only guess that it's a hangover from Bruckner's well meaning friends who thought his symphonies needed to be improved. Nonetheless I do find it very effective rightly or wrongly.
With regard to the Eighth Symphony I really do prefer the Haas version particularly as the last movement does not bear the substantial cuts that Nowak made in that movement. Some may think it too long but I want to hear what Bruckner composed and the movement does gain in my opinion from being uncut.
Finally, my introduction to Bruckner came when I was in my teens - a long time ago- and unbelievably it was via a science fiction serial on commercial television. I can't remember the name of that show but the intro music straightaway grabbled my attention. What the hell was that I thought and wrote to the the tv company asking if they could identify this tremendous music for me. It turned out to be the scherzo of the Ninth Symphony. I've been hooked on Bruckner ever since. I was already into Mahler and in their different ways they strike me as bedfellows. Both visionary composers.

What was Bruno Walter said of it, a “great Mephistophilian guitar”.

Bruckner is a composer whom I think sound quality/engineering is almost as important as interpretation.
His formal style and orchestration demand it like few other composers.
Thanks so much for this video because its crucial for Bruckner imo

I like Gunther Wand as Bruckner's conductor. Celidibache is good too, the sound is very clean but he plays too slow, so sometimes got strange.
