Aling Sosing's is often considered to be one of the best carinderias, or local Filipino food restaurants, in all of Manila. The crowd that shows up to eat lunch here everyday reinforces the fact that they are no doubt one of the spots you want to be in Manila, if you’re a food lovers. When I was eating in Manila, eating at Aling Sosing's was certainly among the best local Filipino food restaurants that I tried.
Aling Sosing's is a very typical type of local street food restaurant, sitting on the corner of a street, near to Makati. Just like most carinderias, all the food is prepared ahead of time, and sits at the front of the restaurant. When you arrive to order, you just simply pick and choose the different dishes that you want to order, find a table, and they will bring you the dishes to your table. Additionally, some of the famous dishes to eat at Aling Sosing's are off the grill, and you’ll smell the wonderful aroma of the grilling meats the entire time you’re eating, and it’s fantastic.
Ying and I arrived about 11 am on a weekday, and luckily we beat the main lunch traffic, but just barely. There were tables available when we arrived, but as soon as we sat down and order it filled up. Sof if you eat at Aling Sosing's Carinderia you might want to arrive before the main lunch rush. Additionally, some of the Filipino food dishes sell out fast, and they don’t cook them again for the day - once they are sold out, they are done for the day.
Here are the main Filipino dishes I ordered:
Pinakbet - A stew of mixed vegetables, oftentimes flavored with shrimp paste. This was the best versions of pinakbet I’ve ever had.
Inihaw na tilapia - The grilled tilapia is quite well known at this restaurant. It was simple and delicious.
Inihaw na liempo - The grilled pork belly is one of their signature dishes, and it’s every bit as good and smoky as it looks.
Kaldereta - A Filipino food I love so much is kaldereta, a goat stew, mainly because I love goat so much. It was oily, but really good.
Adobong pusit - I saw the squid the pot and decided to try it out. It was a little on the sweet side.
Pork BBQ - Fresh off the grill, Ying and I ordered some of their pork bbq. The pork was tender and lathered in bbq, it was amazing.
Total price - 640 PHP ($12.90)
If you’re looking for a local Filipino restaurant in Manila that I think serves some of the best Filipino food, Aling Sosing's is a restaurant you’re going to want to check out. The food is awesome, the setting and positive atmosphere is refreshing, and the constant smoke from the grill will keep your nose happy and wanting more!

@@questworldmatrix I always wondered what Pilipino meant

Hello beautiful angel. how are you doing I'll love to write with you
i am literally starving and drooling. pinoy foods=the best food in the world..i missed the Philippines.
Mark Weins: “I’m a little bit of a chili addict.”
Understatement of the century.
Best comment mans ever seen in a while🤣🤣
Me too haha
My wife is Filipina and she's drooling while watching. I love ❤️ Filipino food too.
I heard that Filipino Empanadas are better than the South American ones. Can you please ask your wife to see if this is true.
Wayne Kerr yes, Filipino empanadas are actually tastier.. but you should try it in their home country rather than Filipino bakeries here in n the U.S. to get the authentic goodness.
Wayne Kerr what does South American empanadas taste like? I imagine it would be more flavorful with spices no? filipino empanadas are usually sweet-ish and usually have chicken (usually with potatoes and sometimes raisins) as filling. sometimes there's ground pork, ground beef, tuna, or ham and cheese fillings. there are savory ones which I prefer as i dont like sweet dough or sweetish fillings. the empanadas can be baked or fried, can come in simple dough, puff pastry dough for fancier ones, or Chinese style flaky pastry dough (where they fan out like layers of scales) called empanada de kaliskis. a uniquely Filipino empanada that's become popular in Manila called ilocos empanada is made of a rice flour dough colored orange (achiote seeds) that's rolled very thinly, filled with grated green papaya, Vigan longganisa sausages, an egg and deep fried until crispy.
ok thanks for the info guys, yeah the one I tried I think was an Argentinian Empanada, it was savoury and you dip it in Chimichuri sauce and the pastry was glossy (I think the surface was brushed with egg yolk before baking), it was really nice. My friend who's been to the Philippines said that Empanadas are the best in the Philippines and yes, apparently they contain raisins ! I really have to try one ! my mouth is watering :)
redfullmoon Illocos Empanada is really good :D
I had authentic ones from Illocos Sur and it's really crispy like lumpia and pretty fresh due to the papaya and vegetables in it. The longganisa is also very garlicy and the egg gives it a nice creamy taste to it.
Definately worth it if you prefer savoury empanadas. It's best if you add lots of onion vinegar into it since it complements it really well :P
The dough is just so hard to make though :( I tried remaking it but it's really fragile and breaks easily XD
Filipina watching from Dublin,.. thank you for appreciating our ordinary everyday dishes...
I love how Mark describe the food I almost can taste it make me smile to see you doing something you love
Thank you for featuring our local food and giving recognition to my beloved kababayans! Inspires me to promote our local dishes .
August 7 2020 and still watching with everything that is going on. God Bless the Philippines! 🙏
I was actually smiling just by watching this. Keep it up Mark!!! God bless you and your family...
I love Philippino food especially seafoods and some sweets. From India 🇮🇳
All izz well!!!
Gotta love this guy. I've always enjoyed watching his food escapades especially here in the Philippines. His humility and genuine love for food and the people is just admirable.
But truthfully I would have to say that A GREAT DEAL of AMERICANS wont even DARE make an attempt to eat foods that they aren't familiar with, BUT..Mark is like....f@#% it, if it LOOKS and SMELLS appealing to HIM, he gives it a try even though It may be something he has never ate. BUT....him EATING BRAINS and ANIMAL BALLS and intestines, RAW BEEF and RAW fish and I think I remember him trying some RAW pork just makes ME SAY..."WOW". Because I CANNOT do it. Even though I LOVE EXTREMELY medium rare beef and fish. To me fried seafood is my FAVORITE
I REALLY LOVE THAT FACIAL REACTION, MARK. SO CONVINCING! Thanks for trying our food.
As a white fella who been to this restaurant few yrs back, I have to say this is the best food street restaurant I've been around the world. My favourite is the Dinuguan (pork blood)
Mark: Your videos of Manila makes me homesick and want to visit when it’s safe to do so! Love you, brother!
Being Bengali, I am awe-struck by any spicy sapid dishes, and especially street food and beach-oriented foods. Nothing beats Goan, Philippino and Thai dishes
When mark eats, and if he tilts his head to the right it means it's really good. So if he falls off his chair to the right then that means the food is fabulous. Love how you eat your expression are great.
Oa nga eh
I feel so proud seeing my country being featured by one of the best food vlogger. More pleaaseeee.

Nice haha
Philippines have many Spanish influences with some dishes similar to some Latin American countries such as Chicharron, Lechon, Leche flan

@@joaoluiz1114 pinakbet is the best dish in my opinion ever created by Filipinos.

Thank you for appreciating filipino food! You know what I love about you?... When you put that food in your mouth and while you're chewing and feeling all the flavor of the food you close your eyes, it's as if like you just travelled in heaven and you say "oh...oh yeah" 😄...your reaction can make someone really hungry and makes them eat everything you're eating...you are that amazing!💚

mark , i really love your enthusiasm about food and travelling, though there may be several negative comments about the monotonous series, but i love them all, please never stop :)
Priyesh Goel True!!
Every household served the same thing! The food got pretty boring after the 5th day.
guys Mark do these things not only for the food but for the culture
warning: don't watch marks videos when your hungry!. right heading out for some street food

Seriously! But now my trick is, have food to eat while watching Mark Wiens videos!!!
frazer hainsworth too late 😭😭😭😂
maria cecilia jardeleza i was having food during watching his video. Made me still craving the food he was eating 😂
JandA having Fun Videos Fuchs hahah late to see your coment quite hungry :/
Wow. Its 2021. Just popped up in my feed, curious and watched it. Thanks Mark for taking the time to showcase my country's food. There are still a lot of places arounf the Philippines that you can discover from Manila, Pampanga, to Cebu and Davao.
Gotta give Mark a lot of credit! He clearly did his research with the names of the food, the pronunciation, and even how he eats! Using the spoon and fork correctly, pouring the sauce over his rice, and making sure to get rice in every bite? Approved ;)
How to measure Mark Wiens' delicious meter:
- If he tilts his head to the right, it's delicious. The greater the tilt, the better the food tastes.
He can't get it back straight if its too delicious...
The beautiful smile
And how he rolls his eyes😂
That's why he never tilted his head 😂
You are so accurate...and plus a nice roll of the eyes with it 😂
This is what I love about the Asian culture. That 4 year old girl would rather help out her mom than play video games. That was very sweet of her. The dog was pretty cute and disciplined too. Even if the dog could smell the delicious food in the table, he or she wasn't bothering the customers.
That why when they are adolescent they know alot of home duty's help Mom like something very normal ,and very important see the sacrifice of son people represent in you owned mom , I know I alot 30, 40 46 woman's they still don't know how to do nothing like that .
So amazing food! Thank you so much for your sharing this wonderful video!
So awesome! Thank you for featuring my home country. This series is really making me miss home!
