G'day from Australia! I had the pleasure of visiting the Philippines and let me tell you, it was ace! The people there are top blokes and sheilas - so friendly and hospitable. And the food - crikey! Palabok and Adobo were fair dinkum delicious. The culture and scenery are also bonza - from the stunning beaches to the bustling cities. The Philippines truly has it all. Can't wait to visit again soon!
Damn I only thought Australians talk like this not comment it aswell 😂😂
what the heck is dinkum? Australian Doughnuts?
@@KenMikaze LOL... Dinkum means Genuine or Authentic. Crikey is a Brits slang for Surprise. And Bonza is an Australian slang for Bonzer, meaning Awesome or Excellent. 😃
I'm from Israel, and there are many Filipino immigrants here. Every weekend they all gather in an improvised food market in the old Tel Aviv central center, to eat, drink and chat. It's one of my favourite places in Tel Aviv, always reminds me of the kindness of Filipinos and southeastern Asians❤

I’m so glad you didn’t feature well known Filipino dishes like adobo, lumpia, and sinigang but more obscure but very delicious cuisine from my home country. Thanks for showcasing Philippine food to the world!
Lumpia don't taste good but I agree with the others

Growing up in the 90s people would have such a negative stereotype of Filipino food. Now, you see Filipino restaurants popping up all over Chicago. My culture's food has become a trend, but I'm thankful people are finally opening up to trying it. Thank you for giving it more exposure.
I've been visiting the States, specifically California, since I was a kid, and I think the problem before was that there weren't enough good Filipino restaurants thats why Filipino food got a bad reputation. Not to belittle those Filipino restaurants, but many of them had owners who were probably not good cooks, nor have skills in managing a restaurant. I mean, not anybody can be a restauranteur. Maybe many of them decided on a Filipino restaurant just to make a living in the States but it wasn't really their thing. Whenever we go and eat at a subpar Filipino restaurant, I always think how the Filipino food is being misrepresented and how its a missed opportunity to show other people what our cuisine can truly offer. Filipino food is excellent and can rival the other Asian cuisines. The flavors and variety of our cuisine is amazing. How I wished then that Filipinos in the States who know how to really cook (and there are many) would start their own restaurants and offer better Filipino food. Thank God, now, like you've said, many new Filipino restaurants of good caliber have opened. Hopefully it gives Filipino food the much needed respect.
My boyfriend is Filipino and I knew nothing about the culture or food until I met him. It’s definitely underrated

This is soooo true...here in the states....they said filipino food are underrated....but every potluck...that I go to....the filipino food are always the one ones that runs out first...I remember....some of my coworkers...neighbors and their friends....always ask do you have more of the filipino food......REPRESENT.....
After just 1 week in Philippines 🇵🇭The food is incredible I've put on weight I lost in India. Spent a weekend with Filipinos they like 7meals a day 😂.
I explained this to my husband that us Filipinos treat eating like a hobby or entertainment cause eating is where families and friends gather. It is def a special bond and moment. Unlike other people like my husband he treats it like just nourishment for the body or something that you just “need”. Us Filipinos we treat as “wants” and “loves”. That’s why when a Filipino invites you to a party and fills your plate with food eat it! Even when you’re full lol. Also gives you take away pls take it.
Yes, theres the usual breakfast, lunch, dinner..
Theres morning merienda, around 10am, afternoon merienda at 3pm....then the younger folks might have late night snacks...
Rinse, repeat every day....LOL
We are the hobbits in real world 😂😂😂
Finally someone said it! Filipino foods are so UNDERRATED!
It's all about the views😂 I called it underrated the Filipino food are in mechilin ✨
Mikey Chen also said it.
Agree
Eh kinda overrated but okay
Bro is SOOO underrated. I’m a Filipino and everything is delicious
I want to eat at these places! 😂 I’ve been to Quiapo and Binondo many times and I plan to return next month. It’s funny how the Philippines has the greatest soups despite the fact that the weather is so hot. Usually in the states we eat soup on cold days and nights. Lovin this series from my favorite country 👍🏽
Well the climate is sub tropical with lots yearly rain. Soup is definitely best in rainy weather that's why we love soup
To add to that, we tend to eat anything hot and/or spicy and drink piping hot coffee literally in the middle of the day. Don't ask me why, even I don't know. 🤣
@@angkunehonghindimakali hahaha true ,we used to it!lol
@@angkunehonghindimakali 👍🏽😂 That’s very true! I’m tempted to ask why but seems like everyone truly enjoys themselves so I would just say to enjoy!! 😀

great show! thank you for showcasing palabok my favorite ever 😊😊😊
Usually if there is a decent sized Filipino community, there will be a restaurant. I think one of the reasons why Filipino food is not really famous is because the way it's usually plated. A lot of it is not visually appealing, but things are changing.
You are right. Some Filipino restauranteurs in the US are lacking in knowledge on how to present Filipino in a way that would appeal to foreigners. Years ago, in San Ramon, California, I entered this small Filipino restaurant that was located in a strip mall lined with different Asian restaurants. It was a sad sight because the owner didn't know how to manage a restaurant. Everything was poorly presented, the decor of the restaurant was uninviting, and even the staff was lethargic. Even if they had good food, you wouldn't get to know it because you wouldn't eat there in the first place. I myself quickly made a u-turn out the door.
Fortunately, I've been hearing about many new Filipino restaurants opening up in the States nowadays. Many of them are being opened by Filipinos from the Philippines who have knowledge in running restaurants (or a business, in general). They are mostly young entrepreneurs who have the necessary skills and knowhow. I heard great reviews about their restaurants. I hope the trend continues and good Filipino food is enjoyed by many in the US.
I love Philippine Cuisine, something I might not like but in majority the food taste very delicious and exotic.
The palabok looks amazing!

all these are just in Manila so far and coincidentally just the noodle based food. There are thousand more islands with their distinct cuisines. looking forward to more parts/episodes coming. i think a part of what makes it underrated is because each region have their own taste preferences, its not easy to say "these" are what makes it filipino food.
Si chui kasi nagdadala sa kanya kaya ganyan nalang yung kaya nyang ipakita which is sobrang dami pa tlga
Love your food tour of the Philippines.
Describing mami as “socks” or “feet” was not really the best way to sell that dish hahaha
I saw a documentary about this 100 year old shop …pre WWII…in Quiapo…that sells Hopia that are wood fire baked. Must be delicious too.
That 'socks' comment was inappropriate. Mr. Chui, next time do better please. I've eaten at Masuki (they have other branches, even in some malls) and at its cousin restaurant Ma Mon Luk , which is older. Their broth and noodles is not really luxurious. You can say that its even a commoners' noodle soup because it was indeed a commoners' noodle soup. It was started by Mr. Ma Mon Luk way before World War 2. He peddled it in the streets, carrying the tins filled with noodles and soup. It is not luxurious in taste compared to, say the Hong Kong noodle soups in most Chinese restaurants in Manila, but they have this flavor that makes it like a comfort food - nothing fancy but simple goodness. You put some pepper on the soup, some of the sweet sauce of the siopao too, and that noodle soup is banging together with the siopao!

Thank you Brew. I love love love this episode!
You're correct! There are lots of Filipino foods that are underrated. Thank you for loving our foods. Its a free promotion all over the world 😁😁😁
That is because the items that get so much attention and hype are so mundane or ordinary. Most Filipinos do not know what needs to get promoted because they do not anything about what people in Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia eat.

Wow! Every food looks delicious! 😋😋😋🤩🤩🤩
Thank you for liking our Filipino food. 🇵🇭 food is underrated because we lack presentation (eye candy).
Filipino food will always be an underrated one unless some Filipinos abroad are diligent and creative enough to promote it efficiently(esp. commercially)✌✌✌
actually, it is those abroad who destroy it to intelligent markets, who demand authenticity rather than manufactured dishes or fusion creations.
Yum yum yum love the food recommendations miss these popular pinoy comfort food! 😮😋 ❤

Thai food, Viet, and Taiwanese food are mostly greens and are healthy which foreigners love. Our food however are fatty, greasy and salty and this is why it is not as well known in some foreign countries..
Yes foreigners will love the taste of our cuisine for their first time but they will probably choose a more healthier dish the next time..
Only in major cities. Provinces have a variety of kinilaw, ginataan and kinds of pakbet. Stop talking trash about your own people. This is why shallow ignorance and disdain of elitists like you cause foreigners to think that our food is subpar.
We actually have lots of vegan/healthy dishes, it's just fatty & greasy food are more popular and often featured.

Vietnamese food is overrated. It’s actually not that good. The westernized cuisine is awesome but the one in Vietnam itself isn’t.
Lol I never heard anyone say that Viet food is overrated 😂. And no way western Vietnamese food is better than the one in Vietnam. They are as good or worse because the preparation method is almost identical. I dont know what you ate in Vietnam and in western countries to come to this conclusion.
