  • What Does This Season Mean For Jokic’s Career?
The NBA is a big men's league. It alway has been. At the end of the day, they are closer to the rim! That's why the list of the best centers in league history is full of names that have turned entire franchises around. But there is one player who, despite sharing a position with these legends, understands basketball in a completely different way.
Nikola Jokic continues to do the impossible. In fact, breaking 50 year old records has become a simple routine for him. This season in which he is averaging 25.9 points, 12.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game has only one precedent in league history.... Oscar Robertson in 1962. And this is just one of the crazy stats you can find on him.
In today's video, we discuss how Nikola Jokic will be one of the top 5 greatest centers ever after this nba season. A Nuggets championship would make these last two years eerily similar to 94-95 for Hakeem. Two chips, two Finals MVP, one MVP and another 2nd place finish to the other dominant center in the league. Doing it with no other all stars.
Yes, Hakeem has a full career, is block champ, the DPOYs, and the two way dominance. But Jokic has two more MVPs, is slowly overtaking him as the most skilled center, and has the stats/impact/playmaking in his favor.
A win for the Nuggets could propel Jokic ahead of Shaq and Hakeem into the top 10 if the playoff run is dominant enough.

The only thing that will prevent him from honestly being the greatest ever is how many seasons he decides to play, and also if Victor when banana can stay healthy at long enough and grow in his game, other than that I really think that joker has that quality, he's not winning any dunk contest, but you want to talk about a player that you can build a team around, I don't think there's a better candidate.

Tell that to the announcers who whine about his lack of athleticism. Being an athlete isn't about bragging, strutting, preening, or slam dunking. I find it boring to watch defenders clear a path for LeBron so he can show us how hard he worked on his next choreographed slam dunk. How much real effort does it take for a giant to dunk? Seeing Mugsy Bogues dunk at 5'4" was athletic. The Joker is kicking ass and taking names the hard way and that makes him better than the easy pickings experts. IMHO

Hakeem will always be my favorite player no matter what. More than Jokic, he forced other teams to play offense differently because he was such a defensive beast. But I gotta admit that Jokic has a better track record of involving all of his teammates. Jokic's understanding of the game is possibly the best I've ever seen, and I'm 61.
I wish the TV pundits would kinda shut up about who is better than whom and is the MVP award rigged, etc. It's silly to harp on who the GOAT was/is, as if we should all treat the NBA as a mildly interesting pastime until someone comes along who can challenge MJ's crown. Each of these great players brings a unique blend of skills and athletic talent. Frankly, I'm glad the Rockets picked Hakeem over MJ; I enjoyed watching Hakeem more than MJ. We should enjoy the competition, which means you have to have multiple great players in the league at the same time. And each great player needs a foil, otherwise it's boring.
Plus there's a bizarre thing going on with the GOAT discussion - "my guy is better than your guy", as if it has anything to do with you at all, as if that somehow makes you better than the other guy's fan. Next time you get into one of these discussions, take a step back and think about whether you think any of it actually reflects on you. If you do, maybe you should get a hobby.

When Jokic is done playing, people may compare his prime (probably today's games) to the other top centers' primes. I think Jokic's current play compares favorably to Shaq, Chamberlain, and Russel. So, I think his current play is strong enough to put him in the top 5 centers of all time. For me, it's enough to put him in the top 15 with the 12th spot between Curry at 11th and Olajuwon at 13th.

People keep building "Top 10" lists when they become more and more difficult each year. In 1985, the Top 5 centers were easy to pick: Russell, Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Kareem, and Robert Parish. In 2024, it's a bit harder. In 1984, the top 10 players of all time were easy to pick: Russell, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Dr. J, Oscar Roberton, Chamberlain, Jerry West, Moses Malone, and Elgin Baylor. But guess who came into the League that very year? Hakeem and Jordan. The longer the league goes on, the more players you have to judge, and the tougher the top 10 lists get.

Plus every one of these teams have aligned themselves with the new running strategy everybody's gone away from the center they happen to pick up a good center now we're telling him he's the best when he isn't even playing against teams that are structured for a center so let's quit this until we get back to center-based Teams
