    I know I'm going to get alot of questions about the bumper design! So I don't have to say the same thing over and over, this is what I said to someone in the comment section when asked about the bumper.
    My opinion on these Tacomas is that they need a very light duty bumper to be safe. Tacomas have a very high safety rating because of the complex air bag system. If I used a heavy-duty 1/4" thick bumper, not only would it bend the frame in a scenario like this, but it would negatively affect the safety system in this truck. The gladiators come stock with steel bumpers and are designed to function with that aspect in mind. These Tacomas are designed with no front bumper from the factory... like a car. Just a thin piece of plastic re-enforced with soft foam. It's a safer design, and I don't want to make it so the airbags don't deploy in a serious accident. I think a heavy-duty front bumper is going to impead the air bags from functioning properly. This isn't advice for anyone else it's Just my 2 cents.
    This bumper worked exactly how I designed it! It didn't transfer much energy into the frame because I built it out of .095. After seeing how well this worked I'm planning on using the same philosophy in the next bumper on this truck 💪. Stay safe out there folks.

      @DynamicDesign144 Před měsícem +7

      I think that's exactly the right approach to take. As you've unfortunately shown here, when you drive an offroader on the road regularly, accidents do happen. Stiffening up the front end (or rear for that matter) too much with heavy duty bumpers, bracing, cage extensions, etc. will absolutely reduce the safety of the vehicle in a medium or high speed collision. Crumple zones are there for a reason!

    • @coopkink
      @coopkink Před měsícem +5

      This is a great comment and im glad I saw this. It makes sense to build a bumper similar to what the factory designed and tested so that it fairs well in a collision. As someone who wants to design their own stuff someday, this is great to know. An unrelated note, love seeing such a healthy family dynamic, I aspire to be like this.

    Glad you're healthy and able to tell the story! Nice that you'll get to do some upgrades now too, even if unplanned. Great video, always wondered how insurance would handle a modified rig, sorry you had to be the one to let us know! Keep up the great stuff Nate!

    Off subject but what is the utility bed on the Toyota? Can't remember if you had answered that bed.

    Man Nate glad you are okay, that could have turned out really nasty. I do appreciate the fact you felt bad for the elk before your truck, shows you how great of a dude you are. And man dang, the Taco. Great insurance advice. And let’s go portals!!!!

    Glad you're safe man! I had an accident that my Tacoma wasn't able to recover from, years ago.... Still have the damage from a rogue shopping cart.... Maybe one day I'll have funds for that

    Happy to see you safe and sound! Find an insurance company that will write auto insurance with agreed or stated value for off road and or custom vehicles. You tell them what the car is worth and at claim time they just write a check for that amount.

    Hard to make out, but it looks like the airbag didn’t deploy. If it had they may have totaled it. Glad your OK will be watching for rebuild!

    DAMN, Glad to hear and see you are okay Nate. We have moose in norther New England, and I cannot tell you the amount of vehicles that get totaled by them. Again, really glad you are okay. I'm a Toyota die hard, enjoyed your Tacoma build and all your videos.

Mean out here our deer not as big as elk but those animals sure do put hurting on front ends of cars! A cow will total a truck haha !! Glad your safe is main thing 😊

    I feel your pain man. Almost totaled our 2019 rav4 back in 2019. Hit a deer that jumped out of the ditch on I-10 in Texas doing 80(speed limit) was just a red and green mist of the body exploding. It ended up taking out the radiator, trans cooler, intake, entire front bumper and hood. It ended up in the engine bay on top of the plastic panels. Sat in the tow yard for a week while we finished up our trip and drove back with the truck and trailer. It smelt so bad.
