- Hi everyone ♥
In this week's video I am going to show you how to make your own mixing palette and brush rest using air dry clay. This is my first time trying air dry clay, and I wanted to see if I could make a palette myself. The whole process took me about a week with all the drying time but I am very happy with the finished result. I hope you like this video and please let me know if you will make your own 😊
Lots of love,
Meeco

I seal mine with Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge. I've had them for a few years and other than dropping one and breaking it in half, they are all fine. Put several coats on, letting it dry thoroughly between coats and be sure you cover ever bit of surface or water WILL get in and ruin it. I love the spatters. I'm gonna have to make some with the speckles. Thanx 😊
It that heat proof?
omg i’m an itzy stan!! i love the background piano!!!
Thank you so much 🥰 I'm glad you like it ❤️
Wow! I love these. I have some air dry clay laying around, I should try this~ ✨
Thank you so much 🥰 go for it ❤️
Wow! I want to make for myself too 😍
Quelle idée géniale ! 😮😮😮😮
Wow this is so helpful! I've tried this a few times but this method is so good! Thankyou!
So glad to know that my videos are helpful to you ❤️ Thank you so much 🥰
@@meecoart ❤😊
That texture looks so nice that you made by spraying paint with the brush 😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much 😊🌼 I'm glad you like it
I enjoy this greatly thank you! I'm going to have to make one
Thank you so much 🥰 I'm glad you like it ❤️
omg this set is so cute 😍
Thank you so much 😊🌼
Pensé que había a ser una escultura, pero te quedo padre tu paleta 🎨
Thank you so much 🥰❤️
I got so distracted because the music sounded awfully familiar 😉 beautiful choice and your pieces turned out so lovley...
Woaw that looks so beautiful..i gotta try that out😎
Try it !! Thank you so much 🥰❤️
FANTASTIC!!!! One question: how have they held up?!?!? Any cracking or discoloration? I know it's only been 10 months since you made 'em but, I was just curious...🤘🤘🤘🤘
I wanna know this too
Like the music. Piano version of dala dala by itzy 😊
Those look great. I would love to see how they hold up as paint palettes as from what I’ve seen there is no way to make air dry clay waterproof. I’ve been sitting on a gifted package of air dry clay for that reason. I hope yours work out!
Thank you 🥰 I tried using it in my latest video, and I think it works pretty well
Epoxy or UV might help seal it further!
Here's how to waterproof air dry clay :).

You can try using a varnish for ceramic which is water resistant, I used that on mine!
As a potter and ceramicist I would not suggest using this long term. It will unfortunately start to break down every time you use water. Even the toughest varnish will not protect it. Why not find a pottery studio and ask to buy some clay, make another one at home then take it back to the potter and ask them to clear glaze and fire it for you. That way it will last forever! 🎨💜
This is a service offered in most pottery studios. Good luck
Amazing! I'm planning to make a paint palette with Air Dry Clay too, for the first time. I hope the attempt will be successful🤞😊
Do it! It was so fun and rewarding 😊 Hope you will succeed!! Thank you for watching 🥰
The fact that you using ITZY Dalla Dalla Piano Version, make me sure that you are literally 🎆 Masterpiece 🎆. Keep Going Dear. Keep your Chin up, I got your back.
I'm so happy to hear that 😭 Thank you so much for the kind words 😊🌼
@@meecoartSame Here. Thank you for inspiring me with your art. I wanna meet you in person, soon. You must be a humble and kind person. Love from Indonesia ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love your vids so much!
your so talented, I could never do this 😂💗
Thank you so much 🥺❤️
Thank you for sharing! 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Really glad you like it 🥰
Seriously nice palettes! I really like how you made them. Did you have any of them crack during use at all?
Thank you so much 🥰 Up to now, I have not seen the palette showing any signs of cracking
How do you make sure the paint sticks to the clay and the varnish doesn't peel?
Love clear acrylic handle paintbrushes. They last way better than cheap wood painted ones. Far better and I especially like the gel + water mixture you used to seal the air dry clay. How are these pieces holding up???
I'm curious after use how well they are lasting? Considered sealing with Modge Podge dishwasher safe sealer. Dislike how sticky Modge podge seems to dry. Possible I never use it correctly why I get those results. Thinking Modge Podge is just like the matte gel with a dash of water you used...
Thanks for the inspiration and sharing!
♡♡♡
Thank you so much 🥰❤️ I use it pretty well so far, however I can't completely clean the himi red, but with other colors it works great
🥰🥰🥰🥰 Thanks!
Beautiful
Thank you so much 🥰❤️
Cool
Curious: could one use this palette for holding acrylic paints?
These look great - well done.
Glad you like it! Thank you so much 🥰❤️
I assume the gel does not need to go into the kiln (over) to cure it?
I heard it’s not good to paint air dry clay with gouache because it muddy the colors? How was your experience? I’m planning on making one too but I’ll be using white acrylic to paint it and sealing it with spray varnish to make it water resistant
Whoa! I didn't know you can use gel medium as a coating! I wonder if it will work with gloss mediums too. Thanks for sharing!
Even i want to know the results after washing the pallette cause I've read a comment on the diy palette tutorial by mont marte and she said they used gloss acrylic medium but after washing it the paint got sticky so i was guessing if the gel medium works good
i used gloss mediums and the result made the clay sticky. i kinda dont like the fiish result because its too sticky for me but idk if its the right result after coating clay with varnish because its my first time making air dry clay. it confused me:-(
I saw another video where she used resin to seal it, and it looked like it worked.
Oh this looks like a lot of fun. How has it held up?
This would be fun to make for me but also as gifts fellow artist friends. 😊
Can I use these pallette for oil and acrylic paints??
I would really love to try this. I need a new paint pallet but not ready to pay for one. 😅 Do you feel like it’s held up well so far?
It works pretty well so far. I recommend applying a thick layer of gloss gel for better water resistance 😊
I love myself! nan mwonga dalla dalla, yeah
can i use clear coat for finishing?
hiii i just started making clay yesterday and i used Mont Marte Gel Medium Gloss to cover the clay. but the end result is the medium gloss made the clay got that sticky result when i touch it. or is it the correct end result? love ur work!
Thank you so much 🥰 I let it dry completely and it doesn't stick anymore, I haven't tried the medium gloss so not sure if it will work
What sort of surface did you use to put the clay on?
Can I apply impesto gel as a medium?
Is that varnish waterproof and heat proof?
Thank you for this video ❤
This gel make the palettes waterproof?
Do the paint beads on this medium?
Thank you so much 🥰 This clay palette can be water resistant, however I think gloss gel will be better than the matte gel I used in the video, because with matte gel it can be completely washed off with colors other than red
Does the gel medium have a strong chemical smell??? Thanks
How is it now, is it the Mont marte gel medium waterproof enough to make the pallete last with watercolors paint?
Thank you for watching 🥰❤️ It works well so far, this gel is waterproof. However it is a bit sticky and hard to wash off with red color
hello I have fimo clay at home is it hard to do it? wear well otherwise great video they are really well done ☺️ sorry my english is not very good 😔
I think it's not too difficult, always use water to correct it if you do it wrong.. Thank you so much for watching 🥰 Good luck to you 🌼
@@meecoart ❤️ thank you for answering me, 🥰 since it's the weekend I'm finally going to be able to try it. In fact I'm French so I don't really know if my English is good 😅.❤️
Very earthy object made with so much care.
Is it okay to clean it with water?
It is waterproof, however cannot be washed off completely with only red color.. Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Are those leftover clays while making the pallette reusable?
You need to wrap it well to retain moisture and be able to reuse it, but you won't be able to reuse it if the clay dries out
Where did u get the template?
Forbidden cream cheese at the beginning
Oh it really looks like cream cheese 🤣
🤗🤗♥♥♥♥🤗🤗
Thanks for all your comments 🥰❤️❤️❤️
is that a piano version of DALLA DALLA by itzy that i hear :DDDDDDDDDDD
Yes, that's the name of this piano piece 😊
Monte Marte was terrible
For me. When it dried it just crumbled like chalk.
My varnish gets dirty on clay 😢
This looks very complicated.
It’s quite difficult because it’s my first time trying clay 😂
Interesting project, but I don't know why anyone would really make their own palettes with expensive air dry clay when the plastic ones are plentiful and cheap - unless one is making a branded palette just for fun. Also, not sure why one would make a palette in any color other than white - because it will, literally, distort the color of paint your using on it. I can see the paint brush stand, the little candle holder (doesn't have anything to do with painting, but it's a cute desk accessory), and even a little cup or trinket holder, but not the actual paint palette itself. In any case, I thought it was a nice idea and something fun to do - I might have a go at making something like this - might use air dry clay just to do something, but might try something else. I think your palette would have turned out even better if you had just cut the entire shapes out of the first slab - like the template you used in the beginning - and then used more clay to make a flat base then glue the top onto the bottom. Hope that makes sense.
Air dry clay is not waterproof and will not hold up overtime, especially using a medium like watercolours. Use real ceramic instead
