Ugh. Im trying not to cry but... im on my old boat here in S tx watching and praying. Im no stranger to hurricanes or destruction, being a native Virginian. My goal is to come down through the Carib. Im not rich in money, but am trying to think of ways to help. Fisher folk are so important. My heart j prayers are with yall.
Please don't say the sea turn against them ... Choose your words wisely.. We thank God Almighty for His blessings and mercies and grace on Barbados and it's people during the passing of hurricane Beryl .
The sea hasn’t turned against the fishermen. This is what the sea will reclaim. I have empathy for those that have lost their livelihoods, however we cannot ignore that the sea coming to claim what belongs to the sea. It’s very hard, and a very hard lesson to learn . We are only at the beginning of the hurricane season. So if it needs to build stronger reinforcements this is what the govt will have to do to secure the livelihoods of the fisheries in Barbados
I live in Barbados and all you can do is haul them out of the water. I think they might have to build a warehouse or proper facility to house these boats. Costly to build but will save a lot long-term. Oistins fishing complex also a mess😢@almaguapa-sailboatliveaboa440
@@user-tx5jn2hf1htrue, that will have to be the case going forward. Learn from our mistakes . The situation is hard, but no loss of life . I give thanks to that🙏🏾🙏🏾
Yes. We were brushed last minute by feeder bands on our South coast. Over 40 houses destroyed, over 20 fishing boats and over 400 in shelters. Essential services disrupted. Fortunately, no deaths. We give thanks. As usual, our prayers and our assistance shall surely be with our neighbours who have taken a much harder blow! We are one people. One love and God bless!!
I’ve been though a few hurricanes..You can only try to secure your boat there is no foolproof way to secure your boat. You can secure your boat to the dock but if the dock get torn away by the storm surge your boat goes with it.
@MikeK-zc8uw I have witnessed 2 hurricanes in Dominica , DAVID was the first one , my father was a farmer and fisherman, he secured all his animals and boats before the hurricane. We only had damages to our home but livestock and boats were all fine
@@magdalenethomas7418 How fortunate he was! What strength were David's winds? The storm came from the south and attacked mainly the Southern and South eastern coast. How was he affected by Maria?
@@ajwatson9974 With what these are not rich boat owners with the gear needed to remove boats from water and put them where? Where do you think they had to store their boats safely. These people have lost their means to make a living and you come across as a pernickety karen wagging her finger saying told you so... Wind your neck in luv and try showing a tad of empathy or just shut up.
First of all, Beryl blew up in size super fast and approached as a CAT 4. Show me how many buildings withstand that and how many boats, moored or hauled, withstand those winds. Watch countless videos of Florida! Some vessels stay up to 10 days 400 miles plus offshore. It would have been a race to get back. Alternate mooring up north was full and forced some back South to tie up as best as possible. Luckily winds petered to CAT3 then Beryl dropped further south of the island; the eye passing only 80 miles south. A few feeder bands did this damage to the southern coastline. Over 40 homes destroyed, Over 30 boats destroyed, over 400 in shelters. This is not a large island. Limited resorces and limited places available for storage even when hauled. Beryl spooled back up to CAT 4 while passing, and more directly hit Union Is. and especially Carriacou. All these islands are close. Barbados is most easterly and outside the archipelago. It is only max 30 mins flight from Barbados to many of the Windward Islands. 40 mins to Trinidad in the south & to Guyna, S.America. Others began experiencing effects while Barbados was getting them.

At least you guys are alive. All the best brothers
so whats the plan?
I could not hear what the guy said.
What about removing the craft from the water in advance?
Resources are limited on islands. And probably now broken because of hurricane .

Oh dear if only they'd heeded the warnings that were given in advance of today??
What do you think they could of done! They put the boats in a place with the highest protection.. What an awful comment.
