Often on CD-players you can unclip the front (nameplate) from the tray, allowing you to take out the complete drive-mechanism with the tray, so you don't have to disassemble the drive inside the player.
Nice and quick and simple. Only thing I'd add is to change the loading belt. Sony belts are so prone to 'melting' and causing all kinds of mess. While I'm in there, I'd always change a Sony belt. (and a bit of grease on the pickup sled rails. Always helps to keep it smooth) Lovely machine!
Thanks for the additional info. I did re-grease the rails, Just missed that part out. Wasn't on the recording for some reason. As it was working well, I didn't go in to changing the belt. But have done this on a previous Sony CD unit. It is a nice unit. 👍
@@retfurb Sony model numbers never make a lot of sense. I've got a CDP-710 which looks similar on the outside but quite a bit different on the inside (my belt was very tired by the time I got into it)... Both look great.
@retfurb I agree, bought mine as part of a lot with other broken ⚙️ mostly duds, there wasn't a way to test them all, however but thank u again my friend, for the videos, content and wonderful advice

I did try to do that before I started, But it felt like it had a bit of resistance. So decided to do it this way.
A little lube on the laser sled rails is a good idea.

Result! Love the old hifi stuff, especially sony. Out of interest are you using JIS screwdrivers?
Yeah, Was a good result. I also love the older Sony equipment. I have mainly all German Stahlwille tools.
