Welp, Risk of Rain finally meets the official release version, 1.0. Final boss, which I indeed do not want to spoiler too much, is the goal. Commando, who apparently has a little weakness for tasty water, is the instrument. Sit comfortably, unpack your willowisp bottles and let's watch the ending!
P.S. Monsoon is no more for cool kids, they all grind Eclipse now. Sad!

The name was fan-made, taken from a song off the original soundtrack. the developers took it and ran with it. until ROR2 it was always just called "the Planet" in development
(If anyone doesn’t know, “petrichor” is the official word used to describe that very particular earthy smell at the beginning of rainfall)

"Massive, simple, empty. Just like the purpose". This one hits quite hard. People already talked about how empty the moon is, but what about the purpose? In Ror1 you fight Providence because he stops you from going back home. But what does fighting Mithrix do? What does that help you from finding the survivors of Contact Light? He doesn't even stop you from going to the rescue ship, you can just wait for the arrival lore wise.
This makes me think that RoR2 to be a prequel. BUT THATS JUST A THEORY

@@PraiseDolan in the intro you also don't see the moon as well. So there must have been multiple rescue/ trade travels before if you have read through the captian's logs. I believe that the Providence was told by someone (unsure by whom) by one of the survivors, and I believe it was most likely the commando since he is the only person who "left everything but his humanity" and as you look at the start of ror2 past the intro (the starting menu) we would most likely assume that the commando died on the planet.

I fought the end boss with 21 stacks of the juice debuff.
When he took my items, he took everything... except my crippling addiction to moon juice.
Needless to say I ceased to exist shortly thereafter.

Last time I checked, 3 gestures of the drowned, tonic and at least 1 fuel cell is the cure to literally everything.

BTW little trick with commando, you can jump out of his tac slide and keep the speed, so you can use it to get you over large gaps.

Actually didn't know about his item stealing phase cause I immediately obliterated him with Royal Capacitor
Then I did a 2nd run and died from my own items in that phase

You thought using Command to stack Will-o'-the-wisps was broken? The only downside was that you needed a weak enemy to start the massive explosions, so it didn't work on just a boss. The new equipment though, Forgive Me Please, throws out a doll that activates your on-kill effects. Get that, a few Fuel Cells, then stack the hell out of Will-o'-the-wisps, and any survivor can kill anything with zero effort by pressing a single button. The doll only has a 45 second cooldown, so with a Gesture of the Drowned and some Fuel Cells you can be constantly exploding for zero effort. I think hands down the most broken build, because at that point everything dies because you exist.
I do wonder if it's stronger than Razor Tincture though, heh

Tips for commando Mithrix:
-Hardlight afterburner is quite good against this boss(for dodging his lunge and hammer swing at you), though you can often predict it if you've fought him enough.
- after thirty or so minutes, most of his moves are one hit kills(monsoon) or bring you within an inch of death, such as any ground shockwave or hammer swing
- don't take bleed unless you know what you're doing. It will end up hurting you. DoTs are the number one reason I die to this boss(spoilers = why this is the case)
Mithrix's animation and movement are some of the best in the game, I hope Hopoo utilize that mobility in their next game.
TIL you can just leave the void area without having to complete it.
I had to escape as Mul-T with NO mobility items. Not even a single goat’s hoof.. was terrifying. Took me almost til the timer went out
Luckily he has His shift ability. I demolished mithrix on monsoon with the captain, let me Tell You, I had 0 mobility items, somehow. Needless to say, I died. Wasn’t Even close :p

Totally agree with you on the moon - it's stunningly beautiful when you first hit it, and the soundtrack, when it hits, is goddamn amazing. Wish there was more to do (like UES Contact Light).
Yeah, there definitely could have been more gameplay implications without making the location oversatured as well

Yeah, I also wasn't fond of that equipment without perma use to negate the debuff, turns out careful usage of it can work wonders

Ever since the release of 1.0 and the change to how the bands activate, I would like to see you stack them on a character with a reliable way of activating them like Captain or Loader.
It also gives you an opportunity to show an interaction with Blast Shower where you can have your bands permanently up instead of having to wait for the 10 second cooldown later on with Gestures / Fuel Cells

It was interesting hitting the final stage for the first time. I was doing it with friends and the reaction myself and another friend who had played the first RoR when we hit the final stage and heard the music compared to the friends who hadn't played the original was pretty different.
Also pretty happy my first victory was with Acrid. His victory message was different from the first game and that just really hit me for some reason.

Forbidden strat to those who want to cheese the boss:
Choose engineer and place your turrets down right before the boss steals your items. Turrets will keep them. 👌
oh, that's gotta be a glitch... inb4 they patch it out
but yeah, or time a royal cap or preon gun when you still have items but he's hittable, if your build is good you can one-shot him and even if not you'll knock him down a peg

@@toobig7399 oof, it's definitely possible. Game engine state management is certainly an art, especially since even very fast secure data stores (LMDB or Tarantool are the fastest I know that are ACID compliant) are basically out of the question for traditional engine design due to latency issues.
I can imagine them accidentally counting the extra items from turrets like they're additional players... I can imagine that being a headache to untangle unless they abuse the tag system, which would work but would become a spaghetti mess pretty quickly.
Just here to let you all know in the next patch he will steal your turrets items too 😂
