It’s not so much “sacrifice” as “opportunity costs.” Every single decision has them. Take this as an opportunity to create your own empire as opposed to building someone else’s. Deer in headlights die. Keep moving and you’ll create your own legacy.

Fully agree. What makes your channel enjoyable is the quality of the video cuts, your clear diction and the choice of topics.
As for your choices in life, yes, remember that living a lasting couple means primary attention given to the other, sacrificing your own preferences. And this is mutual of course. I can say this because we’re married since 1974. 😅

Good job guys. The most important decision you will ever make is to meet your challenges as a team. If you love each other, you will make decisions as a unit, even if you are working on different projects. What you said about sacrifice is correct. In the end, the failures aren't quite as disappointing if you have each others shoulders to lean on, and your victories will be so much sweeter knowing you accomplished your goals together, as a team. You can't clap with one hand, so stick together and in the long run you will be such stronger as a team.

I second @randy51. Let me add a perspective from 70 years. Nothing is out of order in the universe. You can plan and set goals, and in the end you move forward with purpose and the universe nudges you to a sometimes unexpected course. But take comfort, you are exactly where you need to be.

Josh, this is amazing. You do such a great job getting down to the big picture of life. You are a very lucky man to have Chelsea, and you two can weather any storm together. Thank you for the reminder to stick to the goals. I have had the goal to return to flying, and I have wavered many times because it feels impossible financially. Over the past 4 years of trying to get back to flying and start back on my instrument rating, I have had one setback after another. I am still working on it, but as you say, I have set smaller tasks in order to reach those goals on a practical level. The discouragement does happen, it tells you in your own voice that you probably wouldn't be good at it anyway, or wouldn't match your personality, or wouldn't be financially beneficial. But all of those are just fears, the real choice is to stay disciplined during those words to yourself from yourself. It is those times that remaining true to the goal will overcome the Discouragements. Thank you again for putting this video content together to inspire us. I know how taxing it can be. - Jeremy

Biden’s world economics don’t care about piston general aviation and in fact are designed to discourage everyone from from pursuing it by restricting the entire network of support for piston aircraft. it’s all about carbon credits, and which states get funding for reducing their emissions. The proof is at every airport with abandoned rotting aircraft and flat tires everywhere you go. Just look at Germany’s farmers right now and see what Biden’s carbon credit economics are going to bring here.

Josh, thanks so much for this. Something about how open you are about not only the successes and peaks but also the disappointments and valleys is incredibly inspiring. Challenge and hardship come with the territory, and it's refreshing to see you being honest and transparent. I planned to be well into both continuing flight training and building a plane, and due to several factors neither happened, and for quite a while I was discouraged by this, but you've helped to encourage me not only to keep at it, but to recognize the wins and progression in other areas of my life and relationships. Progress is progress, no matter how small. Best wishes for the year ahead.

I will give you a bit of science that was given to me. Your brain is a sampler. As you know video can be played at a variable number of frames per second. Audio used to be 11k, 22k, 44k samples per second. As we age, our brain's sampling rate slows down the slower the sampling rate, the more missed frames / samples. A man once did an experiment where he had people wear a stop watch that moved very fast. He asked people to note what times they recall seeing on the watch. Then he had those same people jump out of a plane and look at the same watch. When falling, they recalled a significantly larger number of numbers on the watch. (Time slows down when you are in an emergency) Point is your brain is just a sampler. Audio, video, touch taste and smell. all "images' that it strings together to create experience. As we age, the sampling ability slows and the result is that our perception of time speeds up. I used to say 1 year is x/ fraction of our life which is probably true but the sampler is slowing down. render a video at 10 frames per second and see how much shorter it is.

    @noblegoldheart8508 Před 6 měsíci +4

First off, Happy New Year to you as well, Josh. Second, I want to thank you for being such an inspiration to me on being the aviator I aspire to be. I recently passed my private pilot checkride, and I am still over the moon that I am now a pilot. The journey was not without the hard times though. But like you said in the video, turn discouragements into discipline.
I began my journey of achieving my PPL a year and a quarter ago when I moved to Alabama, and found a flying club that was affordable for the budget I had at the time. And it was a good fit. I was assigned to a really good instructor who made sure I knew my stuff. I had my first solo flight in March of 2023, and was signed off by one of the assistant chief instructors for being eligible for flying solo. I had a few limitations, but every student pilot will have some limitations, so I wasn't worried about that. From that point on I was on a good trajectory. I had a good well paying job at a general aviation shop working as an apprentice, and it allowed me to learn how to fly while also learning about aircraft maintenance. In April of 2023 though, I was offered a job that had a pretty descent salary for a guy my age at another higher end aircraft maintenance facility as an apprentice, and I made the mistake of taking that job. I call it a mistake because not even a day after showing up to the job, the shop manager told me they can't have me because I wasn't qualified. Which confused me because they said they were okay with having an apprentice. But nonetheless I was scammed, and left without a job. Luckily I had a second option in mind, and that option was to work in the maintenance hangar that belonged to the flying club I had been flying out of. However, the process of getting hired took longer than it normally would, because this particular flying club is on a military base. So I had to get security clearances, and do the other processes needed to work on a military base as a civilian. The whole process took a month to do, and during that time, I was using whatever money I had left in the bank to do some more solo flying to build the hours I needed for my PPL, because in my mind I was saying to myself, "This will not stop me", and I was serious about that. One month after leaving the job I had, I was hired at the flying club. And not too long after I began flying with my instructor once again when I could afford to do so. And after a few more flights, I got back to the level of proficiency I wanted out of myself. And seven months later, due to a VERY packed schedule, with college, work, and everything else in my life, I did it. I passed my checkride.
Words simply cannot state how happy I was once I learned I passed, and when the DPE signed me off, I was overjoyed. Because I had achieved something that I had worked so hard for, for a year and a quarter. And now I can proudly say, I am a pilot. After my check ride, a friend of mine told me that I am a true blue aviator. I had never heard the term "true blue" before, and when I looked it up it said, "unwavering in ones commitment". I smiled when I saw this because the definition is true to how I feel about aviation, my love for it is unwavering. And I won't stop there, once I graduate from the aviation maintenance college I've been attending for the last two years to get my A&P, I will apply to MTSU for their pilot program to get my commercial license, and build my hours for the ATP license. And then move on to the FedEx purple pathway program, because my ultimate goal is to be a wide body pilot for FedEx. I don't want to deal with passengers lol. And once again, like you said in your video, I have written these goals down, I read them at least once every day to remind me what I'm after, and what I'm going to do to achieve my goals.
I've been watching your videos since 2018, starting by coming across your touch and goes video at San Marcos, and all the other videos you've made over the years have kept inspiring me to keep going, to never give up, and be the aviator I want to be. I look forward to more videos coming onto this amazing channel soon, until then, fly safe to you as well.

time is what you make of it, you spend it wisely or just waste it. josh i cant even comprehend the amount of it you spend making videos for this channel
, flying. filming, editing and producing the end content. however you show unconditionally the the right from wrong, do's and dont's and such and yet still have a brief time with family and friends. if you need a break from it all go do it, your loyal viewers will be right here waiting. the content you mike is incredible and completely transparent. man thats gotta take a toll , i for one will continue one and wait for the next video and you live your life' you do you and look after yourself, we will all be here when you post a new learning lesson

Very good and rather timely. I started flight training last year, going for my sport license and co-purchasing a Czech Sportcruiser. Had a car accident late last year, and ended up breaking some ribs. This put flying on the backburner, sadly. I'm healed now, but have been stalling (pardon the pun) getting back at my license. Not sure why, stuff keeps getting in the way and I fear my training and knowledge has regressed. I need to prioritize and follow my dream again. This message helped!

Thanks for an amazing year! Things may not have gone to plan, but it turned out to be an amazing year of content. As I'm sure most of us do, I watch a lot of aviation content. Yours is just on a different level. It's not just flying videos. It's cinematic, it's incredible storytelling, both spoken and visually. Thank you for it!

Josh, in the online production community, there is content (volume) and context (quality). Many go for the CZcams algorithms of monetization (volume/click-bait) and, as you have found, there is Quality. While you don't put out as many videos these days, each is a quality production. Not only in the cinematic sense, but also in the message you wish to convey. Bravo Zulu.
I started my aviation 48 years ago in a '66 C-150 like Chelsea's. Humble beginnings. She continues to fly her beloved C150, as you also continue to fly your 'family' continually upgraded C172. I've watched the evolution of 80991 through the years, bring it's capabilities forward into the 21st century, from basic steam gauges, to G5s, to the awesome panel you have now. It gives hope to myriads of those dated airframes languishing at airports across the country - airframes with outdated/obsolete IFR panels that still have ADF and LORAN - Heck, even now VORs are being phased out for us VFR fliers!
Anyway, stay positive - and vertical! (Unless you intend to do otherwise ;) )

Your story is a captivating blend of "full" living through pretty profound self awareness. You appear to be intelligent and emotionally "well put together": two qualities that result from genetics and good luck. The best part is that you are sharing your life, beyond flying, with an audience that, apparently, resonates with the life affirming message you are delivering with increasing sophistication. Saying "thanks for sharing" seems insufficient, but due to the nature of the medium, that is the best I can do. You and Chelsea have my best wishes, for now, for the new year, and for the future. Keep on with the good work!

    Hi Josh,
Happy New Year! Fully with you on having control of your destiny.
Work towards your goals and only jump on opportunities that will drive/fly you there… nice distractions are what they are: distractions…
Living on other people timeline and goals is never a good thing unless it is what you want… it only brings stress and frustrations… at least that’s how I experienced it so far…
I’ll work on my Instrument rating and CPL and work towards becoming a safer pilot

Josh, you are so articulate, and your messages run deep with wisdom and universal truths. Your messages have been great motivators on a personal level; a life coach and motivational speaker in the making😉. I subscribed and starting watching Aviation101 years ago as I was working toward my PPL. But over time, your channel and content, with its great composition and touching stories, has become a joy to watch and share with friends and loved ones as well as fellow aviators. And they agree; hope that helped with the subscriber number. Looking forward to much more from you and Chelsea.
