Damn. That takes me back. I was one of the pilots of that DC4. It happened winter of 06-07. We eyeballed it and decided we couldn't make the runway the fire was too out of control. They drug it out of the woods where we set down all the way to Nenana a few weeks later.
Damn, Brooks Air Fuel? N82FA. Glad you survived it!
Wow. That thing looked like it had been there since DC4's were brand new. I guess Alaska winters are pretty rough on aluminum.
Any landing you can walk away from, huh? Glad you made it out.
How was that experience of crashing a large aircraft into the woods, the violence of it? Did you get knocked out for a while?
What a cool shot of the guy standing on the wing!
Glad you already said it. Really puts the size of the plane into perspective and also its just so peaceful looking.
Anyone know what animal is making that noise while he is standing on the plane?
@@joeyv821 they're loons 🙂

who else loves the Alaska series?
Grew up in Alaska. Definitely makes one a bit home sick... Also, can't believe I grew up there and never once flew in a small plane... Now I'm wondering why I never learned to fly myself. Sigh
Love that audio of nature aircraft talking music
Well I was going to do a psychology paper..... but then I saw Josh uploaded a new video!
Because of you and Chris, I'm able to see friendly people and places on this earth I otherwise never knew existed. The music was perfect for this video. Thanks Josh !
You had me at de Havilland Otter with 1000 hp polish conversation. Sweet Jesus. Great series!
It's a blast to ride in.
Keep doing what you love.
Date: Wednesday 17 January 2007
Departure airport: Fairbanks International Airport, AK (FAI/PAFA), United States of America
Destination airport: Nixon Fork Mine, AK, United States of America
Narrative:
The Douglas C-54 N82FA departed Fairbanks, carrying 3000 gallons of heating fuel for the Nixon Fork Mine. En route the no. 2 engine started running rough. The pilot elected to shut it down and return to Fairbanks. During the shutdown procedure, the engine caught fire. The fire extinguishing system was activated.
The crew attempted to divert to Nenana Municipal Airport, AK (ENN), but a forced gear-up landing had to be carried out in the tundra. The left wing was consumed by fire.
I loved it. The thundering silence and the birds in the back ground was breathtaking. The gentleman needs to get a NOCO GB150 to help with starting his truck.
Great job Josh!!
Thank you for sharing this amazing trip to Alaska. I really love to go there!!! Greetings from Greece🇬🇷🛫
I think the pictures of those float planes sitting in the lake which is so flat calm is one of the most beautiful pics ive ever seen thank you for sharing stay safe
Awesome experience when you're saying it's 1:00 AM but it looks like a summer day in the states at about 7:30 PM. It must really play with your head. The insects were bad but I lived outside of Green Bay Wisconsin for years and the bugs were bad there in the summer also. Great series thanks so much for all your hard work and effort capturing this magnificent content in a place where many of us will never go except through your videoes...
The loons! Homesick for Alaska right now.
This is far one of the best vídeos I have ever seen! Alaska is astonishing! Difficult to imagine how do people live out there in winter! Great images!
This Alaska series is arguably the best stuff I have seen on CZcams. Congrats, Josh. Keep it up!
Josh, Every video is better than the last. Music, movement, story, color, sound, pace. Nailed it.
Unbelievable, what a nice environment. As always, very nice filming , Josh !
I have seen all 11 videos so far.. After each video ends. I have to just sit here and wrap my head around what I have just seen. Thank you for all your hard work Josh in putting this together. I look forward to number 12.
Thank you for sharing this. These stories add a lot in one´s life. Fly safe mate!
My first solo xc was to Bettles, broke down and Jay from Brooks Range Aviation gave me a place to stay. Great experience and great people.
Good man.
Josh, absolutely unbelievable!! We take so much for granted in our everyday lives....it is really very humbling to see survival at its best in the Arctic. Summer is spectacular, but then there is winter and the “eternal night” for days and days as they await the light of Spring!!! Awesome job with this series!!!
It's amazing how someplace can be so peaceful and amazingly beautiful, but at the same time, dangerous and amazingly hostile. In part, thanks to a something as small as a mosquito,,,,,,millions of them! Thank you for taking us along on this adventure.
Josh, I am just blown away with this trip, thank you so much for sharing it!
Thank you, Josh and Chiss for your videos I have no words for the beauty.
I was flown out of Chandler Lake in Gates of the Arctic NP in that Otter, and bought lots of food in that store!
What a great video of a stunning place, keep up the good work.
Josh, you have outdone yourself. Most people don't know whats beyond their back door. All I can say is thanks for sharing this awesome experience.
Absolutely brilliant filming. I love the way in which you capture life through the camera. Your are very fortunate to be able to do the things you love and we are fortunate that there are people like you who share these amazing moments with all of us. Thanks Josh
Great video and narration. A very remote place to live. Your tour guide was very friendly.
Absent the actual awesomeness of the whole adventure - hearing those loons was THE best!!! Being a native New Englander (Maine specifically)... I remember the days when it was the norm to see/hear loons on many local lakes and ponds. Not any more. Thanks Josh for such a great video!!
Like..LOVE IT! THANX..From South Africa..Im a 266hr Priv/Pilot with PPL only..on mostly Cessna's except Pa.28 for initial training, though got my licence on C.152. Great vid..love it..would love to visit Alaska one day too.
WOW! It is so beautiful! Thanks for throwing in the date so we could really appreciate it I love how GA plays a major part of everything that happens at this village!
They wouldn't survive without it.
Angle of Attack I was thinking the very same thought just before reading your reply. I wonder how many settlements, hamlets and villages there are in Alaska whose survival depends on aviation?
This video is impactful. I use the app FlightRadar24 which shows aircraft in the air at any given moment. It is truly amazing how many are in the air at a moment in time and what their origins and destinations are. This app provides a bit of an answer.
Tell your wife we are all grateful she let you go play for two plus weeks so we all could share yours and Josh’s excellent flying adventure and travelogue! 👍👍
Beautiful absolutely beautiful. You do such a great job filming. You can really appreciate nature there
WOW!! What an adventure. It's hard to believe that places like that exist but I'm glad they do. Makes you realize how easy we have it. Thanks both of you for taking us along. Great documentary.
Most excellent episode of your documentary into Alaska. A joy to watch. Cheers from Winnipeg.
Great series! It makes you appreciate how complicated we’ve made our lives!
This whole Alaska series is amazing Josh.
Been there; done that though I went to Utqiagvik/PABR. I long to return. Glad you are enjoying the awesome experience.
Always good to see some ole familiar country..flying north . Cm
Incredible Josh, just incredible. The story telling to the video photography is awesome.
Can't think of any words to describe this. Excellence.
Great video! Makes me want to fly again so bad. Rode my motorcycle from Seattle to Prudhoe Bay back in 2003, so I know the remoteness of AK. Flew with guide friend of my Dad in Fairbanks with a Helio Courier through Merrill Pass to a remote hunting lodge in the middle of the AK range and landed on river gravel bars, unbelievably remote and beautiful. Alaska is amazing.
Beautiful and fascinating. Thanks for top notch filmmaking Josh.
Such an awesome adventure, I’m so glad you had the opportunity to come up here and visit our State. You had a great guide too, Chris is a solid dude and a great mentor for flying...
WOW!!! Completely amazing series!
Incredible place, minus the mosquitoes! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
the footage combined with the music is incredible!!!! Something to be said about the SIMPLE LIFE!!!!
Just beautiful
I Absolutely Love the Alaska Series and will probably rewatch
Loved hearing the Loon on the lake. I'm going to have to look at the rest of your videos too. From an Alaskan keep safe and flying right side up.
You are killing it, Josh! I love the series and your channel. Keep making interesting, educational, and visually inspiring content! I look forward to your videos every week.
I've enjoyed these series more than any other Josh. Even though I haven't flown general aviation for years, I keep falling in love more and more when I watch your videos. It would be nice if you fly in the future to northern Canada. I saw so many beautiful things there. Keep it up!
I enjoyed my time in the North Country. I was up in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT for a summer and I spent a couple of summers up on Ellef Ringnes Island up in the Arctic Islands at 77.85N Lattitude. They were very intersting times and I did learn a great deal.
I have SOOOO enjoyed this series!!! I also need to tell you that having watched almost all of your videos I find myself, when I am backing out of a parking space in a crowded lot, wanting to yell CLEAR!!!
Thanks for another awesome video. Love the cabins & the Bear spray holder on the dash!
Love your videos , great quality stuff
I’m in AK now and drove from NC (in a XJ like you have at the end of the video) Truly an amazing state and already can’t wait to come back.
Wish I could have went up in a plane while I was here, but even though they are everywhere, traveling by plane is not cheap!
Great video!
I absolutely love the Alaska series videos. Great work on the videos.
Love this video. Incredible that you were at a place where the sun didn't set at all.
Welcome to my world, Mr Flowers. Been trucking up in the north for eons. Been to San Marcos, too
I've been anxiously awaiting each installment, and I'm sorry to see its coming to an end. This is more a miniseries than a VLOG and I'm totally jealous. Can't wait to see what your next adventure is. Keep 'em coming. Oh, and BTW, Gig 'em.
Stunning
I just love how you mix up the cinematic footage and then the chill Vlogging. Keeping it real and authentic as always.
Haven’t been commenting because I’ve been watching these on the pig screen but just wanted to jump on the phone and encourage you to keep up the good work. I have no idea how you’re going to one up this series. Seriously epic!
I wonder how they get vehicles up there. Crazy beautiful. Thanks for the amazing video
Awesome series! Can't wait to see where you go next. That episode where you flew through Denali Nation Park at midnight was so cool! I would love to fly that route.
Great people,great place ,great video.
I just got my float rating recently and I love it!GA gives you the best opportunity to explore the World.
Great production! Great music! Great trip! Very well done! I remember when the Austin out areas looked as humanless! But the Great State is all suburbs now....
The scenery at 0:46 or so.....amazing. Thanks guys....
Nailed it once again - great video!
The Bear Spray holder cut directly into the dash😳😳
I saw that. Hilarious!
I just have one word for Alaska, and that word is Amazing! Great video as always, keep up the good work! =)
Incredible place
Amazing. I'd love to live in a place like Bettles for awhile, that way of life is fascinating
Loved the nice cabin Chris and you stayed in .
The idea of flying is so insane especially when you go through places like this. Glad someone's doing this i know sure as shit i wouldn't.
Neat vid, glad you guys found solid ground being for miles it looked to be much marsh and lakes. The DC4 nose collapsed when the D8 Caterpillar blade along w/other major parts was pushed off enough to safely clear the main fair-way.
Anyplace that's good enough for loons is good enough for me.
Amen to that.
Agreed!!!
Consider this line acquired my friend!
This series has been total quality. I've subbed.
Hopefully it didn't take you this long!
Wow. Very jealous, I’d love to do that and go there one day. Also I’m sat here in the UK in my room itching after watching all those mosquitoes! Great video!
I do believe those Mosquitos rival anything we have on the Texas Gulf Coast. It made me all itchy just watching them buzz around you. Thanks Josh for a wonderful series of videos on the great state of Alaska.
This Alaska series has been over the top. Love it!! I don’t think I would go back to Texas. bTW I live in Fort Worth
Fast forward to 7/23/22........ and am still coming back to see this video because the tranquility and the scenery is just amazing. On another note, Oshkosh birds are starting to arrive its exiting to see everyone despite the criminally high fuel prices that are being levied on us all. I am happy to see the aviation family together again. Also Josh, am looking forward in seeing your new glass panel on the bird.
Awesome video guys, reminds me of back in the old days when there were lots of places like Bettles minus the excellent food stash and how available is was to everyone who visits. I'm east coast Canadian, can't help that I guess ahah! The people who take care of places like that are the best in the world IMHO and thanks to them! It's a beautiful place and thank your lucky stars you got a chance to visit there; great memory for sure and one that has been saved for anyone who likes this stuff to see! One other BIG thing, that sound of the loons on that peaceful lake and the guy on the wing sent shivers down the back of MY neck and I'm sure others will follow...keep up the great channel, I just love this stuff!
Avgas at a remote Alaskan airstrip...$?
Chris walking out the ratcheting fuel hose while Josh is busy with an intro...priceless!!! 😜👍
😳
The grounding cable, actually. It's noisier.
HAHAHA! I can be funny sometimes.
@Evan S Rob's company is about a dollar cheaper, but still.
@@angleofattack You and Josh have made a thing of great wonder and beauty. I may never fly outside the lower 48, but now I have some small notion of what it is like. Thank you.
I love the bear spray holder...haha.
Love the series.
Thank you! This was beautiful.
Another amazing video! I'm glad I stumbled across your page while searching around for aviation videos. I'll be on lesson 8 this week for my PPL and this series along with your other videos gives me motivation to stick with it!
That’s awesome!!! Stick with it, flying opens you up to a lot more...
@@AkPacerPilot Yes sir! It's a challenge every flight and you can never beat the views!
All the cockpit parts and Gauges were probably ripped out for spares for the few DC-4's left flying Like Buffalo Airways planes.
Pretty much anybody would strip that for parts, it’s an airplane it still has value inside
You should come to Northern Sweden. Sun doesn't set here for a long time during the summer. Just stays slightly above the horizon. Awesome series this, always wanted to visit Alaska.
Outstanding video, Josh! Your editing skills are really spot on!
Beautiful
Thank you Josh Truely Amazing
When Josh uploads a new video of someplace cool that Aviation as taken him. I sometimes wish I had gone to the flight school when I was choosing a major at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa nearly 20 years ago, unfortunately it was to expensive and I settled for the AET (avionics) degree program instead. Oh well maybe some day I'll get a pilots license. Good video looking forward to part 12.🛩️📹👍
Awesome trip
words cannot express how happy i feel for those who live there, i wish i were there
I wanna visit Bettles !! Beautiful video! Thanks
Nice vid, been wanting to see Bettles for a while, thanks.
Great video!
Excellence again, many thanks.
Amazing!
