- It's time for something completely different! Today, we're interrupting Buffalo Trace month with a bonus video, and an excuse to drink Irish whiskey. Would we know quality Irish whiskey if it jumped out of a glass and bit us on the face? Likely not, but let's find out together! Today's challenge features Slane, Redbreast Lustau Edition, Redbreast 12, and Redbreast 15.

Watching from Dublin... can't wait for u2 to get over here. The best irish whiskey is the one you r drinking an hour after barman calls last orders..
"That's our kind of city." - Julie
An enjoyable video to watch. The wife and I occasionally do blind tastings at home as well, so I like the format. Will make you a deal, we will try the Slane if you try Sexton. We have tried and owned many different Irish whisky’s and are slowly developing our palates as well. Cheers to you both.
Hi guys! Great videos! I think there are rumblings that RB cask strength 12 is going away, so grab one while you can. They've replaced it with a younger 'small batch' cask strength that is around 9 years old and is finished similarly to the Lustau but not as long. And at a higher proof. Can't go wrong with either. See you in March 2022!
Thanks for the info, Javier! We'll see if we can track one down yet!
I am mostly a bourbon drinker, but I bought 3 Irish whiskeys for St. Patrick's Day: Redbreast 12, Teeling's Small Batch and Jameson Black. Teeling's was my favorite and Redbreast was very good. It is a nice switch from bourbon.
Cheers, Crist! You're right about it being a nice change. We've enjoyed it a few times this month as an after-dinner treat and it really hits the spot.
Redbreast 12, Green Spot, Teeling Blackpitts are all favorites.
I haven't had it but the word is good on the Redbreast 12 cask strength.
I really like your format, music, and fun conversation. Are you doing rapid cuts? I can't tell sometimes if that is just me blinking or what? Anyway, Please keep up the good work, I think you and your channel are going to skyrocket. 12 Year is by far my favorite. Love that bottle, also I can afford it! Cheers!
Cheers Neighbor! You're not crazy. We've been editing the heck out of our videos because we're trying to keep them from being too long, but we've been working hard to remedy the jarring nature of the cuts. Stay tuned! The next several weeks will see a ton of improvement in our editing style. Thanks for watching and commenting and enjoy that 12 Year!
@@TheBourbonVan Cool. Time is the biggest factor for me. Easier to learn how to be succinct than to do robust edits! Take care.
We're learning!
For good and cheap try “two ginger’s “
We actually had to look this up because we thought it was a commentary on our appearance for a hot minute lol. We'll keep an eye out for it!
I met Alex, the founder of Slane, when he visited my local liquor store. He graciously signed my bottle.
That's very tasty whiskey. We look forward to March every year for Slane and a midnight viewing of Waking Ned Devine.
Nice video! Slane is my go to Irish.I have a sample of the Lustau I will try very soon. Cask strength is high on my list but I haven’t seen one yet. Oh and btw, I cut my own hair too! It’s the growing of it I have a problem with 😂
LOL Phil's going to wear a hat for the rest of the month.
Man I love you guys...your so down to earth...you both compliment each other nicely...I watch a lot of these whiskey CZcams vids and you guys are my favorite ...thank you...I'm hooked...lol..Great job guys
Thanks for reaching out, Todd! We're having a great time making these and we're thrilled that they resonate with you. Cheers!
Try the teeling small batch at £34 in UK and at 46abv with a rum finish
That definitely sounds like something we'd like. Added to the list!
Loving the content. This WAS a great bonus! Julie was really impressive in this video, picking out the proofs within a few minutes. I really enjoy watching you guys. Keep it up. Cheers
Thanks a lot, Hunter! I keep telling Julie she's got a knack for this, and she's finally starting to believe it.
Erin go Bragh 🍀🥃🇮🇪
Cheers Tom!
So you can have a "double" with Slane, compared to the +$55.00 Redbreasts. Drink what you like.. good video
Never had a RedBreast I didn't like. They're all very good. You did indeed get Slainte correct.
Thanks a lot, Todd. Cheers!
Wow, thanks for this unexpected Irish ☘️ whiskEy encounter! Redbreast is awesome, my personal favorites are RB 12 cask strength and RB 21. Coming from bourbon background, it’s not always easy to switch your palate. Buy you guys really nailed it picking up particular Irish bouquet and aromas. Happy St.Paddy’s. Sláinte!
Thanks for the recommendations! We'll keep an eye out for them!
Fun review. Thanks for doing. As others have mentioned, the RB 12 Cast Strength is outstanding!
Thanks for the recommendation!
What was the sweetest again? Redbreast 15?
Hey Roger, we both thought the Lustau Edition was overly sweet from the nose to the finish, but it had enough character to finish 2nd for Phil. The caramel sweetness on the Slane probably presented sweetest on the palate, with the Redbreast 15 butterscotch close behind. In all honesty, they were all insanely sweet and super drinkable.
@@TheBourbonVan Thanks for the reply! Looking forward to more great videos.
I, like you have not dabbled in Irish whiskeys to know what to choose and would be agreeable to my palate. I have however been eyeballing Red Breast 12 & 15 at my local adult beverage store and your insight into this blind tasting here has given me some direction. Looks like a Red Breast is in order. To quote an Irish proverb seems appropriate, “What butter and whiskey won’t cure, there is no cure for.” Cheers!🥃
Cheers, Eric! There are some good-looking recommendations in these comments too. We love that the members of this young community are so generous with their knowledge.
Nice lineup and review!! I’ve only had the Redbreast 12. Might have to try y’all’s go to.. Slane. I’m pretty much a Jamison guy when it comes to Irish.
Nothing wrong with Jameson! We've missed out on going to the bars during the pandemic. We love a beer and a Jameson in a dimly lit bar.
Phil you've highlighted how good Julie's hair cutting skills are 😉
A completely unintentional self-own. I'm ashamed lol.
Great vid, Guys! ☘️ So, the Lustau is said to be 9-12 years, plus an additional year in the Lustau Sherry casks. I enjoy it quite a bit, but the Redbreast 21 reigns supreme for me! Had never even heard of the Slane, and don’t think it’s available here in Canada. Another lovely Irish to try is J.J. Corry The Gael. It’s a blend from an independent bottler (so may be hard to source), but quite complex and delicious. Sláinte Phil and Julie!
Hey Paul! Never heard of that J.J., but we'll keep our eyes open. Now that we're learning to recognize more delicate flavors on our palates, we're interested in experiencing more whiskeys from Japanese to Irish. Enjoying the journey so far!
So good!
We had a lot of fun with this one.
Great review, i don't know anything about Irish whiskey so it was great to watch. Also my hat off to Julie on picking the Slane so quickly. CHEERS🥃
Glad you enjoyed it! She's impressive isn't she?
The Redbreast cask strength is my jam... it’s so good.
Good to know! We'll try to track some down.
I love your show, I’m located in Boston and love all things whisky/bourbon. I’ve been collecting for about 30 years and have an extensive collection, more scotch than bourbons.
I watch your show because your reviews are spot on and when I’m looking at bourbons that I’m thinking about buying I look at your reviews and that usually tilts the scales for me. Thanks again for the great show and try more scotch, there are some great ones out there that are fairly priced like Glen Moray, it’s really easy to drink and I think you would enjoy it.
Norm
Thanks a lot, Norm! We are definitely not well-versed in scotch, but we do enjoy a few. We keep a bottle of Balvenie 12 DoubleWood and a bottle of Monkey Shoulder on hand all the time, but we haven't strayed too far outside of that. Neither of us generally like smoked stuff, which is probably sacrilege, but we're working on expanding our palates all the time. Thanks for the recommendation on Glen Moray. We'll give it a shot! PS We love Boston. Haven't been there since 2012, but we're hoping to visit again in the next year or two. Cheers!
Chicago!! 👍👍 I knew I liked you guys for a reason. Life long Chicagoan.
Can't wait to get back for a visit. Pretty sure we haven't been back in 4 years. Much too long.
Tyrconnell Single Malt has been my find of the year.
We'll add it to the list, thanks!
Wait, what? Neither of you are Irish? I would have put money on both of you having at least some Irish blood.💚
Haha, maybe! We both have Dutch in us, but we’re also mutts, so we have no idea.
@@TheBourbonVan Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy you guys.
Cheers to St patty’s day!
Cheers, Adam!
Haircut ya say ladie ... Hey now, fer a wee moment dar i thought you was a leprechaun. I catch thee by yer toe and i git tha proverbial Pot 'O Gold. If I win, I'll trade thee fer Norman. Ask yer wifey. Seems a good trade at dat. Norman an a mug of Uskebah, an I'll be on me way. Mar sin leat.
