Excellent review and agreed on most points. The Volvo was so much more advanced over the Panthers that proceeded 10 years before it, but as an enthusiast, I still love them.

Used to go to school on these...and the Leylands...The bodywork was pretty unique to Brisbane...other metro buses didn’t really look like these...

Same principles as their English cousins, they all went Volvo for the reliability

Were the Leylands not too flash for reliability?

I think personally the Adelaide B59 Volvo had a much better body work by pmc body works.
I would love to have an Adelaide B59 to restore to original

I agree. The PMCSA bodywork on the Adelaide B59s definitely aged more gracefully than many other bus designs of the era IMHO. The fact that this shape was on Adelaide streets from the late '60s (using Daimler and AEC chassis IIRC) to the early '00s probably explains why Adelaide B59s don't seem to look that old.

I never liked the narrower doorways and relatively high floors of the Adelaide buses. The Brissy Volvo has a nice amenable cabin and wide doors. Quite handsome too, as are the Adelaide buses.
