  • First Volvo B59 chassis ever built. And therefore also the first rear-engined Volvo chassis. Delivered to Copenhagen Tramways in 1970, preserved since 1984, first by Volvo in Sweden, since 2009 by Danish buspreservation group.

Very modern bus inside and out for 1970, especially those warning lights over the dash.

I wouldnt be suprised if that bus was made in late 80s, its very modern for being a bus from 70s, good video anyway!

Very nice bus. Only two speed gearbox?

@Terence Haakmat Not necessarily. Sydney had a batch of 50 MAN SL202s -30 with three speed Voith DIWA and 20 with ZF ecomat and the ZFs were more raucous and the Voith was more smooth and calm.
It didn't help that the ZF equipped batch had lower ratio axles than the taller axles with the Voith version, giving a very long stepless first gear. They were both sluggish but reliable as the D2566UH engine lacked low down torque, which these gearboxes are designed to work with.
One of the Voith units had an Allison fitted and it was a rocket ship as the Allison works with high revs, allowing the bus to access it's top end power.

0:41 This Voith transmission has only R and D. It does not have P or 2 or L

@@ag6371 That depends on the controller specified in the bus order.
Some are only DNR positions with no hold in lower gears. Others have the extra positions.
