    A lot of Ford tractors relied on gravity from a slightly raised diesel tank with no issues, the only way to start it after an air-lock was using the starter motor to purge the air from the injection pump and loosen an injector pipe. An induced syphon hates air leaks.

    They run surprisingly well without it. It took a 200kmh full pull with a lot of black smoke to stall it. 7mm pump.

    I know this is an old video, but do you remember if you saw any flow in the return line coming from the IP? Does the IP circulate fuel through itself all the time, like is there an internal lift pump of sorts, or does it just suck just the amount needed for injection?

    Toyota diesels in land cruisers and hiluxs don’t have lift pumps from factory, even common rail hiluxs don’t have them, we use them to just up the power and keep fuel at the pump

    As long as both the fuel return and fuel feed stay submerged in diesel that will run all day, nowhere for air to get in if it’s primed

    What do you recommend for fuel pressure on these pumps? Does that recommendation change between a stock IP and a built IP for say 600 horse? Would a stock pump see a benefit from higher lift pump pressures?

    • @HrThune
      @HrThune Před 2 lety

      Glow plugs are only on before start and during cranking. On cars/engines using canbus and a lot of electronics, there's a setpoint for usage of glow plugs/preheating the engine, E.G. below 7 degrees celsius.

    • @johnniethepom2905

      @@nikolajeftic387 Don't leave them on . The purpose of a glow plug is to warm the air in the combustion chamber to aid combustion . Don't think of glow plug in a diesel as the same as spark plugs in a car .
      If a red-hot glow plug were to induce pre ignition then repeated starts would damage the engine .
