Most modern SAMs have the ability to intercept ballistic missiles, even the first production of the Soviet Buk SAM in 1976 had a maximum target speed of Mach 8.8, faster than the YJ-21. It's mostly about the reaction time and calculations needed, not the physical capabilities of the missile.
well, the DCS logic of the intercept is not great, also no chaff and flare decoys. No offensive jamming ect. Should do a followup video in CMANO to check difference in logic that has does things enabled
There is no missile EW simulated because it's a mod for the game, neither offensive or defensive missile can jam, countermeasure, or dodge, which most semi-ballistic and ballistic have been able to do since the 80s
I thought the missiles they were worried about had an afterburner so before the point of interception they could boost and change predicted flight paths

I've seen more than enough of these type of scenarios done by SuperCap. And I can tell that DCS models air defense systems to be almost 100% accurate and efficient , which obviously will never be the case. And also the lack of any ECM or EW systems, as well as chaff & flares from ships and missiles are further limiting factors.
And DCS can't even model older Anti-Ship missiles like P-700 & P-500/1000 doing their maneuvers in their terminal phase & other guidance systems that actually made them effective. So, when it comes down to Hypersonic missiles it's even more complicated to model as they are programed to do various maneuvers, deploying decoys etc. like an Cruise missiles while retaining the high speed.
Another great problem is target deconfliction, as all missiles seem to go for the same target even if it's destroyed, which is a big problem. And in these type of attacks EW & ECM systems will play an extremely crucial role for both sides

The US is also developing special anti-HGV weapons. One system is in testing but is very secretive.
Also if the YJ21 is anything like the Khinzal it will carry decoys which will soak up a whole lot of interceptors.
How would the Chinese handle our Salvo of retaliation at the same time targeting the Chinese ships?

Shudnt the carrier turn bow or stern first so it takes the hits away from it lonng waterline? I realize cwiz need room to fire. Wudnt that make it a smaller target
With proper deconfliction, the entire attack group is artificial coral reef. Not one ship survives.

Why cant the CIWS help?? Im genuinely curious and concerned because ive always loved these thing's
the scary thing about YJ21s isn't nessesarily their speed, its their range and the fact they're shipbourne/airborne. Meaning any Type 055, Type 052 and H6 bomber within 1000km can pitch in and fire on the defender.
the extreme range also makes it impossible for the US to retaliate, meaning those chinese ships and bombers can go back to base and reload while the US essentially gets mission killed at best due to spending most of their interceptors.

@@ethereal1356 One would think if stuff was escalating to that point, the load outs would be set weeks beforehand … and not getting caught off guard to any great extent. There’s always a chance for surprise attacks, but in the era of space based intelligence and other assets designed to monitor aggressive posturing, it seems somewhat unlikely.

In DCS, ballistic missiles come down on an angle. IRL they drop straight down on top of you.
A single YJ-21 punching through the carrier top to bottom would probably sink it.
The defense has to get lucky all the time, the offense only has to get lucky once.
How can you test this in a system that is not modeled using actual real non-public data. Silly.
