As a WW2 German re-enactor, I’m always watching all these old movie / show clips you post, either marveling over all the original weapons and equipment being used or knit picking the accuracy of the German uniforms and equipment….or lack of.
Oh, I would never use these older movie clips for a guide to uniforms, especially the ones made in the 60s lol. That's a cool hobby you have and I envy you for doing it. I hope Covid hasn't restricted your pursuit too much?

However , there’s a handful of some of these movies where you actually could use it as a guide if you wanted , to an extent. The movie “ Breakthrough “ did a hell of a job on the uniforms , weapons and field gear, it’s pretty impressive….if only they put that amount of effort that went into the costuming, into the movie itself. Re-enacting is great fun, you really got to be into it …almost obsessively, to sink a large amount of money into your impression…if you’re wanting to do it right. I think my impression , including my weapons , is easily over $6k …..and I think most movie producers would rather not spend that much for their extras….so they just hire us instead lol !

But I like the fact they use re-enactors as at least they're using people who are enthusiastic and know what they're doing. Movies back in the 60s, despite being a lot of fun, were way off the mark when it came to uniforms and equipment. They didn't think people would notice I guess, and yet back then the veterans were very much still around (most would have been in their 40s and 50s) so perhaps it was just they didn't care?!

Actually, the most authentic and realistic WW2 espionage movie I’ve ever seen was filmed in a still bombed out Germany in 1949 called “ Decision Before Dawn “ It’s actually an American movie. All the uniforms and weapons and vehicles are original and they spared nothing in terms of attention to detail….and it’s just a damn good story…a damn good movie. You absolutely must see it if you haven’t already, it’s actually on CZcams.

But for good old "shoot 'em up" action they are hard to beat, though they do a disservice to the Germans as they make them look like idiots (which they most certainly were not!). Yes, I have 'Decision Before Dawn' and it's excellent. Another good one is 'Theirs Is The Glory' which was about the British assault on the bridge at Arnhem in 1944. Everyone who appeared in the movie fought in the battle and it was made just 2 years later, in 1946. It's also on CZcams.

Apparently it was cancelled due to poor ratings - but it was put up against a major show on a rival network (Tour Of Duty) so it was never given much of a chance. There are 11 episodes listed in various websites so perhaps the last 2 hadn't been made by the time it was cancelled? I have 10 of these shows - so lots to come!

this was the best episode of the series, if they would've kept the same writers from this episode, it would've lasted maybe a little longer. You're right, the scenery was perfect for this series, very realistic and enjoyable.

The bit where the officer being shot is the bit you mean I think? This is how the programme was originally transmitted I'm afraid and it's so rare. I doubt there's another version of it available now.

Would love to watch them in a hand-to-hand fight with the two enemies... :-) I'm always looking for scenes with German motorcycle soldiers. They are my heros! For me with their long leather and rubber coats and gloves the most erotic uniform of WWII.
Not bad, but there's no way in real life that those 2 guys would have charged on their own towards the incoming trucks, they just gave away any advantage of surprise and cover, not to mention their MG42! The idea is to make the enemy come to you if you are outnumbered and they don't know where you are.

I cannot believe this was made into a series, if you think the films with Telly Savalas were bad, well, compared to this they were like Gone With The Wind. Those SS guys must have been really thick if they couldn't see our heroes creeping from the tree line, and the girl in the SS uniform, talk about undermining a person's intelligence. I would not waste another minute of my time watching this rubbish.
