- Notorious Nurse Wilmot Mystery - Serial Killer Saturdays
News of the Times Episode 274 | 1880
It is 1880 Sheffield and tragedy continues to strike again and again at the Booth residence coincidentally shortly after the hiring of Nurse Mary Ann Wilmot. Things come to a head when Mrs Wilmot, devasted by the rapid succession of the deaths of her children, is also placed under the daily care of Nurse Wilmot. She is shortly thereafter found unconscious. A trunk, owned by the family, is found in Nurse Wilmot’s room containing items from the now deceased girl as well as the not yet deceased Mrs Booth.
In today’s episode we place you, the listener, in the position of juror to listen to the evidence and decide if is she guilty or not guilty.
Notorious Nurse Mary Ann Wilmot is today’s episode of Serial Killer Saturdays.
Hosted by Robin Coles.

Sad for the family. I can't imagine anyone hiring that nurse without suspicion.
It is so bizarre that she got off! We think that between her tearful persona in teh courtroom and the recent spate there had been of doctors killing their wives, and with what was reportedly a brilliant defence and the prosecutor by all accounts was not that well liked - she got off. A triple murderess who escaped. It just doesn't seem right, does it?😒
The common denominator in this case is Nurse Wilmot!! It seems VERY suspicious that BOTH the Booth children, including a seemingly VERY healthy daughter, die within weeks of each other while under Nurse Wilmot's care!! Then, Mrs Booth nearly suffers the same fate as her poor children, again while under the "care" of Nurse Wilmot!! Something is DEFINITELY amiss here!!
I wonder what happened to Mr and Mrs Booth after this?! The loss of their children must've been EXTREMELY heartbreaking for them!!
As for Nurse Wilmot, I seriously hope she NEVER practiced as a nurse again, despite her acquittal!!
Thanks for another riveting video, Robin!! 💞👏💖👍❤
Indeed! All is not right! We think it really hurt their case that they did not charge her with all three deaths. With a range of poisons being used, we think this is what helped to confuse the killings. We think she was a serial killer who got away with the murders - legally. It just rankles a bit, doesn't it?😒
@@newsofthetimes It does indeed!!😠😠
Yes, it’s fairly obvious she poisoned them all and there was so much sympathy for her people seemed blinded by the reality and her victims especially the traumatised parents who had to live with their grief
Yes , hopefully she never cared for anyone else
@@claresmith9261 We have no more records, at least under that name, of her involved in any other suspicious deaths. However, if she worked in a poor house, deaths happend all the time and they could be hidden. Hmmmm. 🤔
@@newsofthetimes Thanks Robin, I suppose we’ll never know, times were so incredibly tough then 👍🏻❤️
Thank you. Enjoyed.
Thank you - glad you liked it! 🤗
Always interesting!!🇨🇦
Thank you! Very kind!🤗
Nobody thought…what the heck???
Quite! 😕Rreally! She made for quite a tragic figure apparently. Sp, she did it, but she did not know she was poisoning them. And the children were not allowed to be brought into evidence. We think the prosecution must have been preety bad, and the defence bloody good!😟
Perhaps I've become somewhat cynical from watching true crime videos, but I would certainly not like to be put under her care.
Yes, a bit of a fail there - one right after another!😅
I wonder if nurse Wilmot went on to do harm to anyone else after getting off scot-free. Mrs. Booth and children did not get justice. 😢
We do not have any other record fo her facing trial. She was apparently atractive - she possibly got marraige prorposals from strange men who like to live on the edge!😉
I like your site cause the crimes are not news to me. Other sites seem to share the same crime content. I definitely look forward to your site. 👍
How kind! Thank you! 🙏We do try to cover many of the smaller lesser known stories for at least 70% of our content! We do do a few of the bigger stories because we are trying very hard to attract new viewers and subscribers. Known stories are more easily recognised by the CZcams algorithms in terms of putting our episodes forward. CZcams is sometimes not sure what to do with us with the lesser known stories. 🤔Thank you so much for your kind and positive comment! Very much appreciated! 🙏
Mr. Booth was in a unique position to have, either recognized everything nurse Wilmot was up to from the beginning, or to have framed her for his own murder of his own family. 🧐 These two possibilities seem obvious to me.
It would seem that was the suspicion of the jury. We can perhaps see this happening with the wife, but not his own children? Doctors killing their wives was a thing back then (we have covered a few, but have loads more that will come up) and we believe that was at the forefront of the minds at the time. Mrs Booth however had three independent doctors caring for her as well. The day to day was with Nurse Wilmot, and the doctors would pop in once a week to check on her. Interesting! Whoever did do it, got away with it sadly. 😔
I do hope she was never employed as a nurse again for the rest of her life.
She was! She got a job as a nurse at a local workhouse! That was a step down career-wise, but it was a job!🤔
@@newsofthetimes At least she wouldn't be murdering the inmates for their valuable possessions.
@@ImCarolB Too true!👍
