When Xbox has more back compact PlayStation games than Sony themselves…
@JC Denton most of the PS Games are even only Streamed and not locally saved means hard input lags, with the PS Sub.
@@ExTremZero Not for the few PS2 games they have, PS3 games are streamed
Tbh, while backwards compatibility is nice, I prefer that Sony puts their focus on next-gen games
@@SleepyJohannes like all the $70 remasters? 🤣
@@SleepyJohannes sadly its mostly next-gen remasters these days
One thing this video forgets to mention is that XBSX2 also has networking support and can be used to play many PS2 games online through many of the available online revival servers out there. (the full socom series, the full ratchet and clank series, gt4 online beta, killzone 1, midnight club, etc)
Wait what?! Dude you made my week!
holy shit !
Online Midnight Club peaked my interest
Even THUG2?
sweet
The Series X backwards compatibility is so good, it's even compatible with competitor consoles!
Even Series S does most of it. So cheap too especially if you buy a used console.
What?
@nambu1080 Tell MS that since they even support it themselves and all it takes is $20 dollars and a bit of set up. Sony really needs to step up with the BC
I gotta say, PS2 emulation looks spectacular on the Xbox Series S/X
It's my preferred way to play GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. Maintains the PS2's superior artistic diretion while playing at 2160p@60fps.
You don't have issues with the game physics running it at 60 FPS?
I thought it was tied to the frame rate
@@etaxalo 60fps fix, widescreen hacks, and other common pcsx2 hacks are easy to flag on where appropriate.
@@Armataan oh nice, thanks for the info
@@Armataan the art direction of the remasters are fine. it is Rockstars call with what they want to do with their art and if they choose something you dont like you should still respect that its their call. there is a generation of disrespectful know it all's that think they are smarter than everyone else and get mad when people do something that they dont like. i think its the high amount of autism that the popped up over the past few decades. yes, Justin Adams, i am calling you autistic or some sort of sperg. i truly believe that you are.
Was waiting for this one! I've been absolutely loving the experience of using XBSX2 on my Series S, glad to see you're feeling the same!
Was thinking of getting my PS2 hooked up to the TV via HDMI adapter or something but XBSX2 is an interesting alternative to put on either my Series S or X. Would you recommend it instead of native PS2?
@@NervousNoodles well you get Achievement support with emulators so it will further enhance your experience and keep you invested in the game.
@@NervousNoodles I can easily recommend doing this, especially if you've already got an Xbox Series console. The emulation has matured enough and the benefits of emulation are too good to pass up on imo
@@thecianoshow I've got a Series S (which I use mostly for older 360 / Xbox games when I'm traveling) and a Series X (which I use for the larger newer games). Next to them is a PS5 that quite frankly should be playing these games but that's Sony.
I'll give this a shot on the Series S, and if I like it, I'll move it to the Series X for regular play.
@@NervousNoodles Hopefully it works well for you!
Being able to run everything from a USB stick is huge. I can just swap my usb stick between my Series S & X depending on what room I’m playing in. Also, the XBSX2 makes it so easy to swap between MCD001 (memcard) files.
External hard drive is far more reliable. Never had a USB stick not fail on me
Good 4 u pointing this out
@@olsonbryce777 Definitely. USB sticks take a beating running programs like this, they aren't designed for it. It's like running on a micro SD card.
@@olsonbryce777 I don’t doubt that. I just don’t have an external drive spare to use.

Been using this for a while and it's amazing how well some of these games run and the community fixes/patches bring it up to the next level! I'm so happy that I can play OutRun 2006 again since OutRun Online Arcade is not back-compat on the XB1/Series.
its been disappointing. i have outrun 2006 up and running on series S, and it has periodic frame drops in the 50s for no discernable reason. its completely random. in software mode, the series S is too weak to run it at 60fps.
@@hydroxyzine1136 pcsx2 wiki is your friend
Question.. does it support original PS2 discs?
Wow this is even better than when I got Retroarch running for Wii/GameCube/PS2 emulation last year. Big step up in smoothness and ability to crank up the render resolution, both good things.
I just did this in retail mode for PS2, Dreamcast, and PSP on my Series X... I'm gonna be able to box up ALL my old systems now, this is amazing stuff...
Is there a guide on to do it for retail mode?
I am dumb how do I do this on Xbox x series in layman’s
4:50 I didn't expected Burnout 3 to look that good at higher resolutions but the game scaled beautiful. It's incredible to play it at 4k with the widescreen patch.
It is strange for me, that Burnout 3 is not included in the BackCompat List of Xbox1/Series. I mean, EA still sell the upscaled 720p version of it on the X360 Marketplace.
Omg
Burnout 3 had widescreen support on ps2 and original Xbox.
@@Deepstar from what I think I heard was it was music licensing issues like jet set radio future. There is a Xbox emulators on pc but would require porting to UWP and some graphics api that’s compatible for it to be on Xbox one and up.
It looks nice but the input lag is awful
Been playing a lot of PS2 on Series X and lots of games look great in 4k
I’ve been wanting to do it aswell I just don’t know how to download the ps2 games or where to get them from you know any website that’s safe to download from?

Great video - I love seeing these emulators, and your coverage is informative and accessible.
I had trouble setting up retroarch in dev mode setting up ps2 then found pcxs2 standalone and have had a great time replaying my childhood games.
This and Duckstation massively increased the amount of games I can make CZcams playthroughs of. Very nice.
PS2 is definitely one of my favorite generations. The dream of portable ps2 is finally a reality now with the Steam Deck as well and I couldn't be happier. It looks awesome at native res on the small screen and runs 60fps
Yeah I too have wanted portable est access Ps2

This cross platform emulating is really amazing these days
Ps5 and series x are basically same hardware. Ps4 and one was too, I think. Everything has been basically just a computer these days. The switch is essentially a tablet with repurposed tech. It's still more of a console than the others. Consoles kinda died in the ps2 Era.
@@Zellonous
All consoles are basically a purpose built computer.
NES was not much more than a slightly customized 6502 CPU with a custom PPU.
The master system a Z80, Genesis a 68000+Z80
All of these are the basis of very popular computer systems of that day.
The main differences were that they are essentially a stripped to absolute minimum system to make the systems affordable and profitable.
Microsoft was the first popular system to use an actual intel based instructions set CPU in the original Xbox. The biggest difference between the Xbox and a pc of the time was how the memory was managed and shared between the CPU and IGP.
As we can extrapolate from these various emulators, much of the code is integrated and optimized from other emulator projects, CPU arcade boards etc.
So really none of this is new.
It's just the optimizations, accuracy, and the ability to emulate so many non platform native architectures so well.
@@wolvenar that's why I decided just to go all out on a rig. Why buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X right now, when every game these days is available on everything (Nintendo just be doing they own thing)
PS4 and Xbox One were essentially just stripped down X86 computers, like you said.
And in that case I'd just buy a gaming laptop and get amazing 4K emulation on all these 6th and 7 th gen consoles the big three finally successfully pushed me back to PC because everything on console got so watered down and lack originality to point of "why bothered?"
The only selling point they have right now is the ease of use and exclusive games which atm only two companies have and one are basically a consolized PC on subscription service with no unique content of its own.
I'll eventually buy a PS5 purely because they still honor physical media and they have their own VR headset.
Good thing we still have Nintendo doing their own thing or gaming would get very boring.
@@barebarekun161 only reason I have my eye on a PS5 eventually as well. I know Sony is definitely going offer something on par with the HTC Vive or Valve Index. Hopefully it's PC compatible as well.
Very cool. I tried PCSX2 as a RetroArch core on my Series X awhile back. Didn’t have much luck with the games I was trying to run. But now I just emulate everything on my Steam Deck.
Thank you mvg i suggested this a few vids back in the comments nice to see it on my feed ❤️🔥
"XBOX is still the best way to play PS2 games" oh, the irony. Just imagine even thinking that in 2003.
Duckstation was such a game changer. I only play ps1 games on my pc lately, front mission 3 most recently. I am sure pcsx2 will be amazing if it’s the same team working on it. Great strides in emulation are always exciting and the ps2 library is unmatched
Here fellow wanzers mercenaries 🤘
Thank you for this. I’m going to try this myself.
The audio on your vids always have very nice quality
stenzek has been on such a roll lately: Creating DuckStation, then bringing the UI used in that project over to PCSX2's Nightly Builds. And THEN all these improvements to XBSX2 (A project I didnt even know existed up until seeing this video).
Absolute legendary guy
@schm1dt Oh Jesus that is incredibly scummy. Kind of MVG's fault for improperly reporting on this then.
@schm1dt To get a full gist of the issue, it was resolved but Stenzek, in his typical manner, resorted to not actually responding to the porter and hides in the PCSX2 server bashing the fork and having a temper tantrum.
@schm1dt it wasnt stolen. The uwp project was abandoned, and he himself said anyone can continue work on it and compile it. He's just throwing his usual temper tantrum.
@schm1dt Ehh I think people already made their mind up on stenzek. While I personally dont always condone how he acts, I think his reaction is kind of justified. But yeah people have been giving stenzek shit ever since he threatened to stop development on Duckstation cause of RetroArch
Now making it so that you sabatoge the PCSX2 repo to not allow the guy to make a PR so the changes are UPSTREAM is also another act of him just having a temper tantrum. Nothing excuses those actions. It's just publicly showing you don't give a damn about the project, but just how much attention you get for it
4:31 On PCSX2 If you switch to 'software mode' just before loading a level, the sky will not be black and it will load normally. Then just use the f9 key to switch back to 'hardware mode' once the level loads.
No more black sky !

Awesome stuff. Been waiting for that Burnout 3 patch for so long!
Playing on series x in retail with retroarch and pcsx2 core. Some games run at full speed upscaling at 4k. Even without this fork. Cant wait to see the future of xbox emulation.

Does that mean one doesn't have to sign up for developer mode/ options?
@@macias1236 yeah

thank you for showcasing Burnout 3! Too bad there is still the sun showing through mountains at some points. Minor issue though and still highly playable
Quality content like always! Really like the emulator content. Wish sony would give us that option. If they were not so greedy on keeping old games digital for sales. The ps5 would be easy enough to run a ps2 emulation internally. Imagine ripping the game in straight from the disc and playing it without a hassle. Or atleast a pcsx2 app that plays from usb.
This is awesome! I hope we get a standalone Dolphin uwp in the future!
You can even play Outrun 2006 at 60FPS and 720p (it does struggle at 1080p).
It's a fantastic emulator!
If I didn't know any better, those games could easily pass for PS3 games. I am amazed at how well the upscaled emulation looks.
PS2 was a huge step up over PS1.
@@dericjames2018 it was only held back by bad picture quality and aliasing. thankfully, both issues can be easily eliminated by emulators

I'm just blown away by how realistic Gran Turismo 4 looks even now, nearly 20 years after launch.
Because that is the only game the PS2 supports with 1080i if you connect to TV using component cable. It's already looking stunning with native hardware.

First video I watched of yours was about the Wii service shut down and that was in January 2019. Been subbed ever since! Keep up the great content MVG❤️
I’m happy even now ps2 is still loved and it’s roster of games
Recently finished Soul Reaver 1, 2 and Defiance on the Series X. It runs really well, although there's some stuttering that seems to be related to audio (when loading a new audio track or dialogue).
I've got the same regarding the stutters and it's driving me mad.
Look how good PS2 looks when upscaled! THIS is the level of emulation i was expecting from Sony when the announced their Classics Program, same with Duckstation vs their PS1 emulator. They are sitting on a gold mine. Thank God for open source emulation.
I've got a sealed Series S in my workshop. Might have to bust it out for these emulators.
You can find a Series S used for around $150-180 now too, l saw one at a thrift store and similar prices on eBay. Don’t think much matches that for the cost, maybe a lucky computer purchase from a business that is upgrading/closing down?
It's on Retail too, by the way. The thing that sucks, is that the emulators are getting removed from the store really fast after being added. Apparently, at one point, they were even getting removed daily. Gamr13 decided to only re-submit/upload them again once a week. The biggest downside for me, is that since they're getting re-uploaded to the store, they're always considered separate apps. Meaning you don't get updates. If you want a more up-to-date version of the emulator, you have to download the whole app again, and copy all of your config files, boxart covers, bios files, and memory cards over from the old app to the new one.
There also doesn't seem to be an easy way to tell which version of the emulator you're using, or which version is currently being uploaded to the store. Meaning you don't actually know when you should be trying to update to a new version.
Here's a small tip: I can't personally find a way to make new Memory Cards in XBSX2. But what you CAN do, is download PCSX2 on your PC and make a bunch of blank 32mb memory cards, and just copy those cards over to XBSX2. Way better than using the default 8mb cards. I currently have 5 32mb cards on my XBSX2, 1 being used right now, and 4 extra empty ones.
Also, fair warning: If you have a slower, and older External Hard Drive that you're running your PS2 games off of, there's gonna be some freezing. It'll freeze every so often for about a second or two, then go back to running fine again. It's just the Hard Drive being a bit slow. Buying a faster newer one should solve that issue. I only mention it, because I couldn't figure out why mine were doing that, and it took an annoying amount of googling and asking on CZcams before I finally got an answer.
And not EVERY game is gonna run perfect. Most games I've tried, run fine in Hardware emulation mode, with upscaled graphics and everything. But SOME games here and there, need to be switched to Software, and those can't be upscaled to look nicer, you're stuck with the original PS2 resolution. But they at least work. I've only come across 1 game so far that I can't get working at full speed, that being Juiced. I can get it to run between 45-50 FPS at best, setting it to DX12 mode.
Reading this do you think using a USB pen drive would be okay to run? That’s what I was hoping to use instead
@@BCKZLDN A USB stick will save everything. Thats how i'm doing it. That's on PCSX2, tho.
@@XL3BIGDrizzy Yeah thanks for that. I got it working no problem in the end

Thanks for another great video! Please do a video on XBSX! Wonder how much it can take this emulator to!
I was wondering about the pressure sensitivity, as some of you may know that the ps2 controller had a pressure sensitive buttons that are required to play certain games such as metal gear and socom 2, in socom 2 for instance the triangle button is for stance, so holding the button makes the character prone, half press is crouching and lite press is for standing. I also believe that you need a ps2 or a ps3 controller for it to work as for xbox controller buttons aren't pressure sensitive. so does this verson of the emulator has a workaround for this issue?
Hopefully you can map it to triggers and the D pad may also be pressure sensitive IIRC.
Some games have ingane settings to change to triggers (tokyo xtreme racer), xbsx2 also supports button mapping but have not used it yet because i have not had the need to use it
Xbsx2 has an apply pressure setting you map it to a button and hold it while you press the pressure sensitive button for it to register as a tap instead of a full press for socom I have it mapped to l2 and I hold that when I press triangle to crouch you are also able to play games online on xbsx2 there’s private servers up for a bunch of games just look up socom community and ps rewired
I have a USB adapter to use ps2/ps3/ps4 controllers on xbox, they work.
@@GSG-io8zp I did map it to LT once but it's annoying to remap all the controls and get used to it cuz of muscle memory, its a pain but its better than using a ps2 or a ps3 controller with a usb adapter.
I'm not overly concerned about the limitations of the Xbox Series S. It's a 1080p system by design, right? So if it runs games smoothly at 1080p, that's more than good enough. It's not like I've got a 4K television set anyway!
Yeah but the games should better look real good and sharp then.
I have just tried this, it's amazing! I started off with GT4 as in the video, but the game would not recognise any inputs on my controller, have tried other games...wow !
This not only shows the emulators ability.... but how good ps2 games were the animated characters now look amazing (again) the lighting and the effects everything all looking great in 2022! 😃
Woah, how have you gotten GT4 without polygon glitches in hardware rendering mode? I've just been playing the licenses, but the cars have awful flickering polygons that only disappear in software mode.
Unless I'm a minor version behind on the emulator, and it was fixed the last couple of weeks 🤔
Okay yes, the problem has gone away, woohoo! So pleased. Gran Turismo 4(K) for the win! 😍🤩

you just need two consoles to play all generation of sony games - backwards compatible PS3 and PS5 :-)
