Unfortunately these bags run in my family and I am a male in my 40s who suffers. Mine seem to worsen with things like allergies and dust which my current house has lots of. When I leave on holiday, they go down considerably.
I’ve found marine/seaweed products (and seaweed) to help. I don’t know why. Naturopathica has a Marine Concentrate that really helps me. There are lots of other seaweed products out there like Eminence and Seaweed Co. Living by the coast, I can also grab some from the beach, lay it under my eye, and notice the bags are much less pronounced.
Ive also found they seem to respond to AHA/BHA masks like Drunk Elephant Sakuri.
Lastly, I’ve found the Clarisonic brush with the eye massager head helps. It’s basically massaging and strengthening as well as helping move the fluids. I can often feel the fluid increase in post nasal drip so can tell it’s moving something!
My understanding is Malar bags are comprised of lots of small sacs where the fluid builds up. This makes it more difficult to drain and, as this great video points out, more prone to collecting heavier creams.
It makes me happy when I get away for a week and see how good my face looks with lessened malar bags but sad when I have to return to my home where there is an unknown allergic reaction. I blame that darn construction guy who got so much dust in the house, I still haven’t been able to get rid of it years later!
Anyway, I hope some of this may be helpful to someone. It took me a long time to get to this point.

I have the exact same problem, just turned 40. I have a cat and 2 dogs but I'd never be without them (found out I'm mildly allergic to cats). I find a lot of water, moisturising your face and cutting alcohol right down works a bit, but someday I wake up with a really puffy face and look like I've been punched in the face. It really, really bothers me.

So I recently started getting malar bags and I think it might partially be allergies and so I started using Flonase recommended by my ear nose and throat doctor. I also simultaneously stopped using all of the skincare products I was using (which was a lot). So now I’m minimal with the hyaluronic acid and face creams. It’s all seeming to help a lot. I still use my retinol serum and face wash as well as acid exfoliations every couple of days. Of course a mineral sunscreen too! I have felt the pressure to get fillers but don’t think this will make things better, possibly worse if not done by the right person. I’m trying to do things naturally and accept my face for how it is. It’s good to want to take care of ourselves and look our best but it becomes unhealthy when we are competing with perfection.
I started to notice things going wrong with my face when I began getting IPL and botox simultaneously I can’t help but sort of feel like they were another reason why this has happened to me. I definitely am thinking twice before getting any beauty procedures and there are so many horror stories I’ve stumbled upon with these procedures so if you are thinking about getting, then just find someone you trust and less is more.
Also, I have gone to different professionals for help and advice, a dermatologist and several plastic surgeons and aestheticians all of which did not even know what I was talking about and some recommended fillers in the crease to smooth but they said I didn’t have malar edema, which I for sure do.
I did go to an ocular plastic surgeon who said they will get worse as I age and he said micro needling with radio frequency could help but radio frequency can melt face fat and cause volume loss. So that’s a big No! He said we could do filler but it might make it worse. He said I should just live with it and I’m sort of thinking he is right because they are so hard to treat.
I may try an eye doctor next or get an allergy test to see what I’m allergic to.
I looked into loosening up the muscle with a cannula to release the muscle and soften the malar crease, it’s called (subcision) and that’s a little scary but something to look into.
Seriously though I’m seeing a difference just by Flonase for the drip in my nose and throat and everything in face is connected so possibly fluid building up in eyes from my allergies. And then not so much face cream. So my advice is try the least harmful treatment first.
    Hope this helps someone 💖

Hello are you still using the Flonase ? can you tell me which products exact you use as there are a few different ones. It's interesting as have sinus issues and also allergies. My eye bags seem to be very fluid filled but they don't come and go. I noticed when I had a massage and was laying face down that my eye bags really filled up though! and also my nose got so stuffed up. It makes me think there is a strong connection. Do you find the Flonase actually stops fluid from building up? and that fluid may be also filling up the eye bags? I do feel that if we get to the root of this issue that is where the magic will happen.

Hi so I’ve had Malar bags basically my whole life I’m pretty certain they are genetic. I started using Trentioin 0.5% concentration for my acne. And it’s working very well for that but I was wondering since it’s a cream if it could build up in my Malar bag and under eye area like you were talking about. Dear Mario of course you have to do what you believe will suit your face and skin type. In my experience anything heavy like an oil near the eyes is really not a good idea. Most people have much more delicate skin here and you must be so careful not to drag it or put heavy oils or creams there. They might make it worse. So I suggest be really careful and try perhaps in the daytime so you can monitor what happens. I’m happy you like the vid. Thank you ;) S

Thank you very much indeed for writing and Im sorry I've taken so long to reply ( actually We've been re designing the graphics - which I'm now happy with ) So, to your query. Thank you for your compliment. I think my skin is nice because first of all I don't put masses of stuff on it. All I use is OLIVE OIL to clean it - there's a video on that on the site ....
I don't use soap and water - just oil and prevent bags - nothing - just nothing, apart from a little rose water to clean off any oil which may have got there. I do the exercise I showed you - and they've gone now. Please see my latest video and close up on my face. Hopefully you'll see I don't have them any more. Oh yes - and most important of all I sleep on my back.
I have actually invented a sleep system that helps people to sleep like this which I'll be launching shortly. I do hope this helps you. I know that some things to do with our faces can be inherited. In this case I would recommend that you smile a lot - which does make lines but they will be happy lines and people will see your smiling face and not any bags. X Shula

Dear Bharti Im sorry I have taken so long to reply. I'm not always sure how to log in and my colleague Hanna shows me patiently ( again) anyway now we can talk together and I hope I can say some things to help you understand what's happened. There are certain things which make puffy eyes worse in my experience. (1) Please don't mess about with them. The skin around the eyes is the most delicate. I have been told by eye surgeons that it can actually absorb creams and oils. These will puff the skin under the eyes. So try to give them up for a bit. Other things which help, which you may be able to do Bharti - (2) avoid salty or spicy meals late at night. They can hold water in the body and make puffy eyes worse.(3) If possible for you try to sleep for as long as you can. When you are tired it makes bags look worse. I know this maybe difficult if you work hard and dont get too much time for sleep. (4) If you cant sleep for long a good tip is to try and learn to sleep on your back only. I do this and have actually patented a back sleep system to help people who want to learn. If you sleep on your back you are not putting pressure on the side of your face and making the bags worse. You can do this yourself if you can get pillows/ cushions to build up around you to remind you not to turn on your side. (5) What ever I do I wake up sometimes with a puffy face and eyes - so - and this can be magic- I screw up my eyes tight and spring them open. I do alternate winking and move my face around. This does help me. I hope Ive given you some help here. Smiling also does bags good - you won't look sad if you smile X Shula

Also I use a cotton bud soaked in rose water or eye lotion to gently make sure there’s no oil left. I don’t wash my face because it’s drying - I’ve made a video on how I cleanse. I can only say what’s worked for me and also for my mother who had a lovely skin too. You’ll find a picture of her on millyrich.co.uk. There’s a lot of stuff that people buy that’s expensive and can be drying. Your skin gets dry, then you over nourish and your skin can get worse not better. I hope these ideas help Love Shula

      Hi
Yes I’ve spoken to a dermatologist. A qualified doctor She said that it’s also important to increase the circulation in the face. Like screwing up the eyes and releasing quickly ( 50 times) winking each side separately ( 50 times) it doesn’t take long tho it sounds time consuming. Just activating the circulation in the face. There’s one thing I’m sure of - they can be exacerbated by creams and anything heavy. Be light and gentle. Activate the face, don’t leave the area greasy! Please try this and let me know how you go. Love Shula

I've had these since i am a child.. since i was born i think.
I'm 36 now and they are severe.. like really bad. I've search the whole intermet and i havent seen any as severe as mine. I get so upset when they say this are cause by aging or sun damage. In my case they are genetic, at 5 i had them.. at 16 i had them..they've gotten worse with age obviously but in my case it was genetic. I just started wearing glasses and noticed it helps camouflage them...but i understand you so much. I just embraced the fact that i have this.

Dear friends, I totally understand how looking in the mirror at yourself and not liking part of yourself, can be so depressing and robbing of your self- esteem. Before I discovered the face exercises that I did, I had things looking like slugs, snaking around under my eyes and I felt just as terrible. Not everything works the same for each person. I think only a dermatologist can advise, if affordable. Otherwise, harmless things that I do might help and also back sleeping that worked wonders for me. Hope this helps, Shula x

Hi Tove - About lasers - I'd be really worried as the skin is so delicate. Make sure you fully research and please ask for before and after pictures of other clients. Also think about the non-surgical options beforehand - eg. face exercises & sleeping on back - please look for the right sleep system for you. & glasses could be a brilliant way to present yourself to the world.Good luck xx

Hi there eye bag Community. just my two cents. I'm wondering if eye cupping could help to drain that trapped cosmetic build up under the skin away, as well as the rose water, as I'm not clear on what rosewater can do to address the trapped cream underneath the skin in that area. Help!

    • @ShulaRichNaturalBeautyBrains

Hi There is a procedure called cupping - which was for the eyes and recommended by two ladies called the Scarlet sisters. It was to rest they eyes and help with eyesight.
I have never used creams around my eyes - My thoughts are to prevent eye bags getting too' baggy' The rose water that I use is to clean the eye area of any oils from my hands or face that may have got there - Its gentle and slightly astringent. It won't of course get rid of creams if under the skin. All best wishes Shula

Dear Missmaaam - thank you for writing to me. I really appreciate your feed back. I totally understand how you feel. I think you can find out if you are exacerbating the bags by trying my natural suggestions in the two malar bag movies. Do they reduce the appearance of the bags?
I can develop them now if I don't follow my own suggestions!
Are they in your family? If so I guess they must be genetic. However worry about them can make your face tense and increase their prominence.
My best suggestion if you think they are inevitable is to get some super nice glasses to wear - perhaps a light rose tint. They will protect your eyes from sun and the area from wrinkling and when you look at yourself the bags won't be the first thing you see. I hope this helps and that you can look at yourself with pleasure in the mirror. Best wishes X S

I have worked for years on the way I look because its interesting and fun and I think I've ended up knowing quite a lot. Hi Sonali
Just one eye - I understand how you feel. From my experience lines on just one side of the face can come from having that side as a sleep position. Do you sleep on that side where the bag is ? Please let me know and I'll definitely reply sooner than last time ( apologies we were re designing the channel) If its to do with your sleep position then perhaps try sleeping on your back? This is what I do along with some of the exercises that I've shown in the video. sometimes other things help like
drinking water, not eating late at night, cutting down on salt. Another one I recommend always is to try and smile as this hides the bags with smile lines and spreads some happiness to others. X Shula

Dear Ammu - I've studied this a lot because they can make a person look tired out and sad when inside you don't feel that way at all. All I can suggest is really trying to find out what causes them for you. I understand that they are 'there' already so you don't know why you got them - but - can you try to find out if there is anything which makes them worse and anything which makes them a little better? Are they worse on one side? Is it the side you sleep on? If you eat early are they better than if you eat late and don't sleep too well? Other things which can affect them are heavy eye cream - many say don't use it, looking down at a screen all the time, poor circulation. Lack of water. Heavy facials. My best suggestion is to really try to study what reduces and what accentuates them. If you can stabilise them then we can think of all the alternative treatments to try and remove or relieve them. Perhaps others have suggestions? I hope this helps Shula

Talking about things penetrating the skin, - I went to the optician a little while ago who asked me if I used to wear a lot of eye makeup.
